The Changing Face of the Rally Title World

A good gaming studio usually equals a good game.  This is why the news of Kylotonn Games taking over the official World Rally Championship (WRC) is so interesting.

Kylotonn will develop WRC 5 and have released their first trailer of the title and a press release with a whole bunch of adjectives.  The title will be coming to the new-gen, previous-gen consoles, PlayStation Vita and PC this fall.

On the other hand is Milestone, the former owners of the WRC license.  Instead of abandoning rally racing, Milestone will launch a new title called Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo (SLRE).  SLRE will be available this fall as well on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.  The first previews of the title can be seen below.

So what does this swapping mean for us customers?  Well it’s hard to tell right now.  New blood is sometimes really good….and sometimes not so much.  I think the good news here is there’s going to be competition.  Competition breeds innovation and usually exclusive licenses eliminate both.  But with Milestone staying in the rally realm and attaching itself to the Sébastien Loeb name, the fear of stagnation should be avoided, at least on the consoles (SLRE not coming to the PC).

We’ll keep an eye on these two titles as they develop through the year and see how they compare head to head this fall.  Both titles press releases can be seen below.

WRC5

After 4 episodes on the previous generation of consoles, WRC reaches a new step toward history. This year, Bigben Interactive and Kylotton Games are proud to announce that WRC 5 will also be available on new generation consoles !

The WRC game series is taking a new shift with the introduction of Kylotonn and will benefit from new development tools and experienced European developers and many surprises are planned for fans in the game. “We are very proud and excited to work on a title dedicated to one of the most challenging and spectacular forms of motor sport,” says Diego Sartori, Creative Director at Kylotonn Games.

Bigben Interactive is also proud to introduce Sébastien Chardonnet as one of the game’s Ambassadors. Sébastien is the 2013 FIA WRC 3 champion who is graduating to the top level of WRC in 2015 in Monte Carlo – after a first attempt in 2012 in France. He has been involved with the concept and planning for WRC 5 since early on in the project.

“It’s exciting to help Kylotonn to make the best WRC game ever seen. Combining my driver and gamer experience with their technical point of view is something interesting when you are trying to do the most realistic game possible,” declares Chardonnet.

Moutains, valleys, snow, rain… That is a long and winding road to get to the WRC title. Will you have what it takes to unleash the driver that lies in you ?

No matter what happens it’ll will be interesting to see how these titles progress up on until they go head to head this fall.  Both press releases can be seen below.
