In a recent video interview between Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the Brazilian YouTube channel SennaTV, some actual footage of the as yet unreleased Thrustmaster GT branded wheel has emerged. Naturally, the main focus of the interview was to discuss the influence the late Ayrton Senna had on the GT franchise creator both before and after Senna’s untimely death at Imola on the first of May 1994. Also becoming apparent during the video, Kazunori will include Senna in Gran Turismo Sport. Polyphony had planned to release the title this year, however for multiple reasons, the title has been delayed until some time in 2017.
What we can see in the footage of the Thrustmaster wheel in use, it appears quite polished and fully functional. It certainly looks to be a close to production version of the new wheel. From the very brief videoclips we see here, there is no way to judge the torque or performance of the wheel while it is being used. The supposedly direct drive wheel does not really give away much, however, we are treated to glimpses of Kazunori Yamauchi and the interviewer, Rodrigo França driving with the GT branded wheel several times throughout the length of the video.
Until now, Thrustmaster has kept their cards close and have not elaborated on or confirmed any of the speculation being put forward by the sim racing community. Rest assured, should there be any official word or developments regarding the wheel, ISR will keep you all informed.
