NASCAR Heat 2 – First Dev Diary Elaborates on Development Process

Together with Polygon, 704Games has released the first dev diary entry for NASCAR Heat 2, discussing the development process and new features. Some gameplay can be seen as well. You can check out the video right here.

New features

704Games is trying to cater for as many gamers as possible, hence, a split-screen mode has been implemented. Whilst this might not be of great interest for the sim community, it will definitely provide some extra value for those who just want to have a quick local multiplayer race, right from their couch.

Apart from that, 704Games has focused on improving online racing. Building on the “foundation”, which is NASCAR Heat Evolution, the developer was able to implement a flag rule system.

This was a result of the dramatic rule change to the NASCAR series last January, which not even 704Games expected, in the form of stage racing. The initial announcement and an explanation can be found here. The rule change led to 300.000 lines of code having to be redone, but now stage racing has been implemented for offline and online racing together with yellow flags

As we know, Camping World Truck, NASCAR XFINITY and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will be united in one NASCAR game for the first time in ten years. This enabled 704Games to completely overhaul the career mode.

Modelled after the career real NASCAR drivers purse, one will start out in a truck and work his or her way up through XFINITY to finally secure a seat in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series – the pinnacle of NASCAR racing.

With all the news in the last couple of days, it seems that NASCAR Heat 2 is on schedule for making its release on September 12 this year. Moreover, you will be able to take advantage of discounts on the retail version in form of a voucher. More here.
