iRacing’s next build is only weeks away, and with it comes the new Team Racing functionality, also known as “Driver Swaps”. They have been teasing this new feature for a while now, and it seems to be entering the final stages of testing before its release in the next build. A new video has been released, where iRacing Director of Marketing Kevin Bobbitt walks us through the steps of how to set up your team and take advantage of this new feature.
The Team Racing functionality looks to bring a whole new element of challenge to iRacing. Not only will you be racing in longer events, but you will also have to make sure that you have a car to bring back to your teammates. I’ve personally run a couple test races, including the first ever 24 hour race, and it is a far different way to race, where you have a team mentality instead of just being solo. I personally enjoy the added challenge, knowing that it isn’t just on my shoulders, that I have to trust in other racers as well.
Team Racing can also bring fun challenges between you and your friends. For example, when Darin, John (Sabol), and myself were competing in the 24 hour race, and we found ourselves trying to push to beat each other to have the best lap time for the team. As in real racing, you don’t only race the other cars, but you can race your teammates as well.
If you’re looking forward to the Team Racing functionality, you won’t have to wait much longer! It will be released at the end of this month, to coincide with the Season 4 build. Another car will also be coming to the Season 4 build of iRacing, the Ford GT GT3! This car has received some cosmetic updates and has been re-balanced to fit among the other GT3 race cars. This will create a five car GT3 roster, making for some very exciting racing!
