Torana 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2013 I thought I'd already posted this, but I can't find it. I want to get a good wheel, pedal set, but I'm on a tight budget. I am thinking about getting the G27 set up with the AP brake mod. Is this a good set up for my money or is there something else out here that I should look at. As a side note, I am thinking about getting a projector so I can play it on a 100" screen. Is there any pros/cons with this set up. Thanks Trev.
Hoop27 9 Report post Posted June 26, 2013 Outright best bang for your buck I'd consider a Logitech DFGT wheel with a set of CSR Elite pedals that would be close in price (probably less if you grab the wheel used) The load cell on the brake pedal does make a huge difference imo. Joe Berkett 70 Report post Posted June 26, 2013 G27 is the best bang for your buck? YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gunstar 615 Report post Posted June 26, 2013 I would agree, although the DFGT with a set if CSR Elites isn't a terrible suggestion if you don't need/want a shifter.
Okoe Dokie 1 Report post Posted June 26, 2013 G27 is still my favorite wheel especially with the AP brake mod. I have the DFGT and GT2 with CS pedals. I perfer G27 helical gears over DFGT standard gears as well as the H shifter. Does the CSR Elite plug directing into the DFGT wheel? If not then useless on PS3 and possibly the PS4. That was my first thought, but they are a single motor, straight cut gears, no clutch pedal (not that important), Different pedals to the G25/27 (the pedal mods won't work from my understanding), and a few more difference. I can get a new DF for $200 or a new G27 for $299 (NZD). G27 is the best bang for your buck? YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, they seem to be a great starter wheel. I would agree, although the DFGT with a set if CSR Elites isn't a terrible suggestion if you don't need/want a shifter. Probably going to use a PS$ when they come out, so am looking for a package I can plug in and race G27 is still my favorite wheel especially with the AP brake mod. Some people say they are a cheap wheel compaired to what else is out there, but they seen to judge them against a $500 stand alone wheel. Does the CSR Elite plug directing into the DFGT wheel? If not then useless on PS3 and possibly the PS4.
Hoop27 9 Report post Posted June 27, 2013 If it's a $99 difference go with the G27's for sure. I would check locally to see if you can find a used DFGT though the wheel is fantastic (the pedals are garbage) and mix that with the CSR Elites if you can get that combined for the same price range as a G27. Or if you are brand new there is no harm starting with a DFGT and sticking a sponge behind the brake pedal as a start but the pedals are really crucial imo. The brake especially. The silly thing a second hand DFGT sell for about $150-$200. Even a second hand G25/27 some people want more than a new one is now. They use to be $450, but the price has dropped to $299, hence is now in my price range.

J.A.R.V.I.S. 282 Report post Posted June 27, 2013 I owned both, the DFGT and the G27 (G27 is in use nowadays). And I can only say that the G27 is much much better. The FFB is a lot smoother, it's quieter, the brake pedal "actually" has a spring in it although the AP mod would be awesome (The DFGT's brake pedal needs to be modified to not just have a pedal with free travel and no pressure needed) and overall I think that the G27 better. So if I were you I'd already be clicking that button to buy the G27.

I would like one of the more expensive wheels, but the kids want food on the table, the wife likes shopping and the bank would like their mortgage payments. I just get the left overs. Going to order the G27 tomorrow. For $299 NZD ($235USD) I think it's a good price for what you get

Gunstar 615 Report post Posted June 27, 2013 Probably going to use a PS$ when they come out, so am looking for a package I can plug in and race Remember tho, PS4 compatibility is still undetermined, so if you're looking for a plug and play wheel for the PS4 I'd hold out for some official word from Sony/
Khyber 190 Report post Posted June 29, 2013 had my g27 for couple days now, it has been great, but I already have the upgrade bug (if i can call it that becasue I wanted a fanatec at least or t500 to begin with) but I need to build actual rig too first. Winning my 1st race last night in iracing made it even worse haha
FrankV 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2013 It all depends on the price you can get one. The G27 has gone up in price over here and now costs 299 Euro. I just ordered the Thrustmaster T500RS for 349 Euro. At these prices I find the G27 no longer competitive.
J.A.R.V.I.S. 282 Report post Posted July 2, 2013 Where did you get it for 349 Frank? I can only find it for 399... Also the G27 is quite different compared to the T500, the T500 is stronger regarding FFB although the G27 is the better wheel to start with...

It's on sale for 365 Euro, but they also always got discount vouchers available (if you search for "Pixmania voucher" you can find this codes). So my price was 349 Euro. I also bought the F1 wheel somewhere else, plus an GT Omega Steering Wheel stand so now I am ready to start my sim racing
