G27 too weak!?!

9 posts in this topic

Hi,

I just replaced my G25 with a G27. Overall I pretty much like it, but to me it seems to be much weaker than the G25.

Is that possible? I tried a lot of setting in the profiler and in serveral sims, but for all it doesn't feel as strong as I am used to by the G25. 100% FFB strength in the profiler feels similar to 70%-80% of the G25.

When I take the overall strength in the profiler up to over 109%  strength i get a constant rattle as soon as I'm on track, even while standing still. This is really annoying.

I like the force feedback to be really strong. So I'm wondering if this is normal for the g27, or if there is any possibility to give it more power without this annoying rattle.

Any idea?

although ive never owned a g25,(i went from driving force gt to g27) i wouldnt imagine the g27 is weaker, just smoother, it has  halacial?? gears witch make the wheel a lot quieter and smoother, i did notice the ffb was a little stronger and better directed on my g27 than the dfgt, i always used to turn down the effects on both of them because i never used to enjoy the rattle both wheels gave out but wheel weight and feedback strenth i allways set to 100, my advice would to be try a friends or just enquire at the store, there are plenty of people on here who have owned both g25 and 27's so im sure youll get some better info, hope this helps

Hi,

Just to answer ptux73, I believe helicoidal is the word you're looking for ;) As far as the g27 goes I have it now as a second wheel if my T500 ever stops and I can say that compared to the g25 I had before it, it is not any weaker, tried F1 2012 with it and using the same settings as the G25 the only difference I can see is that it's a lot smoother, more linear and it 'clunks' when you go over rumble strips.

@ "Tommel"~I have a "G27" and never have I thought the "FFB" was weak..in fact After using a "MOMO","DFP","DFGT" & then Stepping up to a "G27" I would say it has the strongest "FFB" out of all the 'Logitech" wheels I have ever owned, while I personally have never owned a "G25",My best buddy uses one for his main wheel, and the only difference I ever noticed when I use his,is that my "G27" is a bit smoother..[just a bit] and also my "G27's"manual Gated shifter feels a little less clunky then his 'G25's"...BUT~he has the option of turning a switch and instantly having a "Sequential Shifter" also...which sort of pisses me off a bit...because I want one TOO!hehe;)
anyway, maybe you have some sort of problem with your 'G27" ..Because,Personally I have never heard anyone complain About the "G27's "FFB"...in fact, quite the opposite actually,I have read tons of post where people complain about it being too strong...so I dont know man, maybe if what you want more than anything is super strong "FFB",And you have a somewhat generous budget, a T500 would probably make you a really happy camper, because with the right title/game,that beast can rip your arms outta their sockets..lmao;)

Hi,

thank you very much for your replies.

You are right. I also didn't find a lot of topics in the internet, where people were complaining that the G27 is too weak. The only post were referred to "it is getting weak after some months".

I just took my old G25 again and mounted both wheels to my desk and did some direct comparison testings. When the sring is turned on, i can't feel a difference in force between the two wheel, but as soon as I am on any track in any car of any sim, the G27 looses. It's weaker, not as crisp and is seems to have even less effects.

To make sure its not only me beein used to the G25 and beeing confused by the smoother turning of the G27 I forced my girlfriend to try it and give me her feedback. :-P

She said the same thing. Whith the G27 she did not feel as connected to the car, as with the old and a bit worn out G25...

Maybe I got a bad wheel. According to your experiences I think I have to send it back...

To be honest. I really like strong FFB. I like it to be completely sweaty after a long race and to feel it in my arms just if I were driving a real kart race. It's some kind of workout^^

I have been thinking of buying a T500 or Fanatec CSW, but Logitech offered me a 50% off for their shop because I complained about my G25 beeing worn out. So I took a Logitech wheel again and as I love the G25 I thought I could not do anythin  wrong whith the G27...

now were getting somewhere, it seems very generous to offer you a new wheel for half price, maybe its refurbished and a little worn out itself, if you want more ffb then like you say go for the t500 or csw, i have a csw and the ffb input is adjustable too 400, i use it on 100 and thats still at least double the strenth of a g27, i have no experience with the t500 but ffb is strong on that too, hope this helps....ps you also have to remember that after prolonged and regular use your arm, chest and shoulder muscles will develope, not enough to visualy notice but they will be stronger

You might just have a malfunction. Also possible: If your wheel is getting too hot, it will automatically throttle its FFB output, so if it seems like ur sim racing environment is cooking ur wheel that might be whats happening.

On the subject of G27's getting weak after a few months, I strongly suspect that is actually the users arms getting a little stronger and their brain getting accustomed to the output of the wheel.

Bottom line IMO, if you're really looking to train your arms for real driving while you simrace then you would be best served to step up to ECCI or Frex equipment. They are capable of generating large forces at the wheel without having to run at the extremes of their components output capabilities. Sure you can get a T500 and crank it to max, but you'll just be working it to death, it still won't make your arms work hard enough to count as a work out, it might clip some FFB outputs, all the lame stuff that comes with running gear at its limit.

Oh, and for what its worth, real drivers don't get their workouts from driving in sims. They go to a gym.
