"Insane DIY Video-Game Racing Cockpit" BUILDING PLANS

49 posts in this topic

I figured it out. I'll take more tonightattachicon.gifimage.jpgattachicon.gifimage.jpgattachicon.gifimage.jpg

Look's amazing man! It's great to see someone else's build and how you went about it. Thank you very much for posting those pics.

Would it be possible to fit the keyboard on a piece of wood on rollers underneath the wheel? (I attached a pic of the roller track I'm thinking of.) I'm not sure how much leg space it could take up though.

You should start your own topic on here, post more pictures, and I'm sure other members would be more than willing to offer suggestions and ideas. Congratulations once again on the build!

Hi Matthew,

What an awesome thread !  Thanks for sharing it with the community here. I have moved it to the DIY section so it stands out a little better. I left a link in the old section as well.

On another note.. I tweaked your signature cause the link to the you tube video was auto embedding. I have a setting on the back-end that does that. I made your text linkable instead.

Back on topic.. Thanks for sharing this !!  Great job !

Hey Darin,

Thanks for moving the thread to the DIY section, it does make more sense there.

Thank you very much for changing my signature. I had noticed that the video link was showing up pretty large, just wasn't sure how to change it myself.

Thank you for everything you do, keep up the great work!

hi i have a question

the plate you are using is 5/8" thats 15.87500mm. But my question is now can i use a 16mm plate's without changing any messurments

Hey sorry for taking a while to respond, I've been on vacation.

The difference between 15.8mm and 16mm will not matter at all, that's less than 1/64" of an inch, and will not be noticeable in any way.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you do go about building my rig, I'll help however I can. Thanks.

I just saw this, looks good. I am currently on 2 desks and my mom and I got the idea to build a platform of the right side for a mattress...maybe. I have to mount 2 monitors and a different chair. How much did it cost for all the materials? I will be building this hopefully. All I need is a "go" from my dad and I will get to work.

Thanks, Bryton

I've been looking for a project to do with my dad for ages. I just showed him this & he went nuts! I'll let you know how it goes

Thanks man. Glad you like what I've done and you'd like to try it yourself. Have fun with the project and feel free to message me if you have any questions!

I know this is an old post, but I'm 6'6! Would I fit in this thing?

Hey. I would assume 6'-6" should be alright, considering I'm 6'-0" and have plenty of room left over. I would modify piece P-17 though from Step 6. It is the piece that you would be mounting your wheel too, and at 6'-6" it might cause the wheel to be too far away, then you would need to move the seat closer to it, which would then cause you to lose leg room. If you made P-17 longer, it would bring the wheel closer to you, and you wouldn't have to lose leg room by moving forward. Hope this helps some. If you had any other questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help. Thanks for your interest also.

Nice, sounds good my man. Feel free to change/edit anything you would like, I encourage it. It's nice to see what everyone comes up with and how people decide to go about things. If you have any questions or need any help, let me know and I'll try to help out as best that I can. Good luck with the build, have fun!

Hi, I know this is an old topic but i was surfin the web and came across this racing rig and was like i need to build this now. Well so i started andi have the bottom part done-ish. im using 3/8 ply that only measure out to be 3.5 by 4 foot and 2x4 for most of the build so modifications where required but of course.  So i was wondering if you had any pics of the top inside of your rig??

Oh and if anyone want to buy my mini bike so i could get my wheel and pedals that would be greaat :) lloll

Hey man, glad you got inspired to build something from this, can't wait to see how it turns out. I don't really have any pictures of whats going on inside the top area, but you can kinda see it based on the pics from above (how it goes together) and on pics from my actual forum topic about my rig if you scroll down about 75% in the first post. (below in my signature "My Sim Rig"), not the building plans forum page. Ill try to attach them to this post for you as well.

If you have any questions in general about the top area with dimensions or anything, let me know and Ill try to help out and go measure whatever you need today. I cant recall if I have all of that top area dimensioned in the building plan files I had posted on here for download.

Good luck with everything, and let me know how it goes!

Thank you very much Shaun!

I'm interested to see if anyone tries to build my rig, and I'm excited to see what changes/mods people will make to it. I would love to see if someone were to take the time to make it easy to take apart in two or three key sections that could fit through doorways. I thought about it when I initially designed it but then became impatient and just wanted to start building! I'd also love to see people work in computer parts like working tachometers, button boxes, etc. I guess I hope someone attempts to build my rig in general! Ha!

Congratulations on everything you and Darin did throughout 2012, I'm looking forward to the show in 2013. The "Year End Recap Show" was a great end to a great year in sim racing. Keep up all the great work!
