Rigid as hell. My 120kg uncle and a crazy friend bouncing all over the thing did not make any harm at all. However, it depends on how thick pipes you will get. Mine are 5mm thick glued with epoxy.

Hey everyone.  I went through quite a few pages of this thread, but was wondering if anyone has a measurement (or could take one) of the overall height from floor to wheel base.  Im curious if this will fit against my desk or if I will need to do a whole lot of rearranging and use the whole thing as a desk, meaning adding a sturdy keyboard mount and mouse pad.  I already have the pipe cut for the initial MKII design, but know I will be modifying it a bit, sort of like how Arri3 did his shifter mount segment being flat.

Well construction is under way on my version of this rig.  im still playing with some of the parts and need to buy some more fittings.  I modified the base where the pedals go so I could adjust how tall the overall stand is.  I still have to get my seat as well, but thats on the way.  Once I have that, I will be able to really see what needs to be raised and lowered to fit.  Here are a couple of pics of what Ive got thus far.

Ive got the front half of my rig done, glued, and painted.  Im still waiting on my seat to come in to finalize the back half of it.  Once I get the seat height situated, I can bring the two halves into my den and do the final assembly of the two halves plus the shifter bar.  There is no way it's going to fit through my doorways fully assembled.  Oh and forgive the mess in the garage it's always in some form of disarray.

It took a while, but I finished it.  Like I said, made some tweaks to Simul8r's design as Im not using the monitor platform and changed up where and how the shifter mounts.  Also had to raise the seat and the wheel area to match my desk height.  Overall super solid though!

Looks great!  I had lots of fun making mine and customizing it.  And once it's painted that PVC pipe looks awesome.

Two weeks of reading through all 56 pages, planning, finding a seat, getting materials, building, painting and adjusting. It costed around $140, excellent price imo for a rig this sturdy. I even returned the glue, there was no need to use it, PVC unions are stuck very tight, impossible to remove by myself. I made some DIY 5.1 audio lol, two speakers in front, and two behind headrest, also a ghetto bass shaker under the seat. It's just a subwoofer with zip ties but it does the job, I feel vibrations. As you can see that's also a ghetto button box, printed some labels and mapped a keyboard to do stuff, works great. I'm only missing the shifter now, might do it soon.

I'm very happy with this build, doing it myself felt very good. Can't believe it's been 9 years since this was posted, awesome plans Simul8r thank you so much!!

I remember browsing a thread that I think was written by one of you ProgReefers - about how you used pvc to frame you Live Rock but I cant find it.

It looked like a really good way to go about things.

If it was yours, did you use 3/4" PVC?

I found some used pneumatic cilinders on the internet, so I thought why not upgrade my 5 year old Simul8r rig.

After looking around on the internet I stumbled upon the JoyRider designs, the Pneumatic JoyRider, the xsimulator community and Simtools.

What a great world we live in where we have the internet filled with exiting ideas!

My plan is to make my Simul8r with 3 degrees of freedom motion. I have succesfully started a test for the first motion.

Hey! I wanted to quickly come in and update a legendary thread. Simul8r, you're a real VIP, I appreciate you sharing what you created. 

Thanks to recent times... been at home festering. Decided to try out iRacing with my G920 setup at my desk and chair. That quickly turned into - I need a rig. I then stumbled across the awesome 3-part video series ISRTV put on with the wood, PVC, and MDF rigs. Here are the results! 

It's very easy to look past how PAINSTAKINGLY tedious it is to mock up a rig! It takes so much time, effort, and some foresight. I was so impatient to get to racing that for a week or so, didn't glue anything together and the pedals and seat weren't actually mounted. As seen in the pics below. Also, after seeing how awesome the rig was going to be, I decided real pedals were needed.

My own "ver2" included epoxy and a real floorboard to bolt everything. It's a real rig now, wouldn't be surprised if it could handle a DD wheel base.

IMG_20200508_181027 is actually my buddy's rig! We built a second! 

After all that, during one restless night, couldn't get over my FOV problems so spent the night re-arranging desks so the monitors were properly close. 

Only thing left to do right now is the cleanup. I want to route the edges of wood and of course paint the PVC. I will try and update! 

Again, cheers to Simul8r for such a great design. I hope folks are still enjoying their rigs and I've been trying to inspire as many as possible when sharing mine. Happy racing!

Just use schedule 80 if youve got concerns of flexing. It is substantially thicker and more stout.

so much better in light weight pvc pipe

i used 50mm OD pvc pipe

the pipe I wrapped in stick on carbon fibre look which gives a nice finish and is cheap from the bay. The fittings are painted with plasti dip

M9CUS, could you please share some plans or measures for the pipes? 

I find your proposal amazing and I'm trying to create a SketchUp model with it. I wanted to create a rig similar to yours. My idea is to place a TV on a table and your rig seems to me it's better in that case. I mean, I think your rig is a bit taller  than Simul8r's (the seat place), and the pedals angle is accordingly smaller.  Also, the surface size for the wheel is smaller, which is better in my opinion.
