simul8r 114 Report post Posted February 5, 2011 Well, 90% cut and test fit. I beefed up the front area because i decided once i got my 27"s in i wanted to keep a "desktop" in front of the wheel for keyboard, mouse, bobblehead, etc.... The dashdesk(lol) will smoothe the appearance transition from wheel to screen imo. Will take pics and post as i start gluing. Thought I'd share this by another builder named A-ster. He posted his rig on my Lumenlab thread. He also used 27's with actuators for his seat. Although, I'm not sure if this is actually him in his rig it might be his friend. dragracer 5 Report post Posted February 6, 2011 quote] Sound's like you have money to burn In any case, I'll be looking out to see what you come up with. well I have been on overtime for sometime now and had a bit of money saved for a turnkey rig and this saved me most of that so ..... but IDK i will probably just wait until the wheel comes or I guess I could just um borrow my sisterinlaws x-box and wheel

But i would rather save where i can and besides that, this rig will be unique and something i made with my hands, a sense of accomplishment....

iGuitar93 3 Report post Posted February 7, 2011 Looking good, especially in that shade of red! Bet you can't wait to give it a spin when it's completed. Take care Regards: >>>> Jack <<<< Yes i can't wait! I have everything ready except I'm having a hard time finding a seat. It's been snowy here lately and the junkyards have been closed and then when the one I go to was open one of the workers had an accident and had to go to the hospital. So i have to go to the junkyard tomorrow and finally get a seat. I've been using a stool and some pillows to sit on, it isn't very comfortable. I painted the base and table black. If i do say so myself it looks pretty darn good. I'll post the final pictures when I finish it tomorrow.

CaTaPulT 658 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 Excellent. Nice bit of work on the rig, very ingenious for both the rig and the triple monitor stand. All painted black, it looks pretty darned good, congrats on a job well done. Take care Regards: >>>> Jack <<<<
MJRL 9 Report post Posted February 11, 2011 Thanks for share your project. Hi SIMUL8R's, i posted in Lumenlabs forum, but i think my firts post will take some time to appear. What do you think about this pipe? It's 1/2" instead of 2", they also have 2" but i think this one its strong enough. I don't know what to do for me it looks like 2" its a bit large... Thanks

Thanks You know your ruler is in centimeters right? And 1/2" is very weak. 2" may look big in the store but once you put it together it isn't all that big. It is very strong and rigid. I would go with the 2". You probably could get by with 1 1/2" but 2" is extremely strong once put together.
simul8r 114 Report post Posted February 12, 2011 Welcome MJRL, I'm going to have to agree with iGuitar. A diameter of 1/2" would be too thin to build with perhaps 1 1/2" would be minimum with 2" being the best overall. BTW, I responded to your question posted on Lumenlab. dragracer 5 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 Are you getting the eye for headtracking? Yes head tracking is what I hope to use the eye for, I picked it up today but havnt had time to play with it yet. I also looked at 3d tv's but the guy at best buy said that a tv that worked without the glasses was shown at the vegas electeonics expo but it still had flaws like it only works for a single person looking straight on. it didnt work at an angle. iGuitar93 3 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 Well the head tracking only works on beginner arcade mode. I have a playstation eye and I found a head tracking option in the menu. I turned it on but after research online I found it only works in Arcade mode. I was disappointed it doesn't work in career mode
dragracer 5 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 well that kind of stinks. oh well it will be cool for when people come over and play it in arcade mode. hopefully they update that

Maybe they will update that, but I heard gt5 uses so much resources that the head tracking wouldn't be possible in any other mode. Maybe if they optimized the engine a little bit more though. dragracer 5 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 I got the rig all glued together and turned a few laps on it. What a difference I turned all of my driving aids off and I realize that I am not that good at it yet. Its closer to real racing but still not quite there. I haven't even tried the eye yet but if, it doesn't work anyways what's the point
TDMX 2 Report post Posted March 10, 2011 This is my variation on the PVC cockpit theme. As you can see, there is much more work to do. A large wheel deck that will accommodate the wheel, monitor and PC. Next, a shelf on the right side for a shifter, mini keyboard and mouse, then a pedal box will follow, hopefully with plenty of adjustment options. 1 sly_p1 reacted to this

That's the same exact seat I got from Summit Racing. SIMUL8R, I was curious if you had any thoughts/ideas on incorporating your 3 screen setup all into the chassis rather then a stand alone? Maybe I could work it into the one above? I don't know, I also want to have a kayboard tray that can be moved into place when not racing. I'm starting to seriously look at the PVC route though. Maybe I could work it into the one above? I don't know, I also want to have a kayboard tray that can be moved into place when not racing. I'm starting to seriously look at the PVC route though. It has been done before so I can't see why not. I beleive I posted a vid of a member's build named Aster (see several pages back) with his 3 26" monitor stand which is attached to the front of his pod. Although, I stand by the strength of 2" PVC pipes @ schedule #40 I would still warn that there is a limit as to how much weight a single pipe and fitting will hold until things will eventually give. So far, I've tested my adjustable monitor stand with a 45 pound plate and each of my 20" monitors only weigh 8 lbs a piece. Otherwise, you could very well add a few more PVC fittings to support a standard desk table and just set your monitors on top with their individual stands. The table top route should support at least 150 pounds of weight. BTW, since you are referring to TDMX build which appears to be quite different from mine perhaps he can chime in on some insights as to what your wanting. Hdale85 1 Report post Posted March 20, 2011 Yeah I have 23" LCD's but I don't think they weight much more then 8lbs either. I don't think I saw anyone elses 3LCD setup in this thread other then yours, I've been a member at lumenlab for quite some years but never really visit that often, so I'm looking through that thread now
