Wow, that is alot of wheel. I'm afraid to ask how the single PVC pipe is holding to it's weight not to mention the addition of the forcefeedback during play. But I guess you're doing fine otherwise you would have mentioned it. Very sleek and impressive build nvidia2349, btw, is that dragracer's suggested bedliner paint on the frame or plain flat primer?

Good luck, have fun with the build.

Thanks simul8r. I decided to keep right bar and to not make the table. I'll try to make some kind of monitor stand that won't be attached to the rig, otherwise there is a risk that it will shake, which i don't want.

This rig is so easy to do that i was able to put it together all PVC in 1 day (actually about 6 hours).. here is what i have so far

post-9734-135485914386_thumb.jpg

next few days will paint it, make a wheel and shifter mounts and hopefully receiver the seat and attach it.

then i'll try to do monitor stand from pvc.

I am getting close to the finished product. I still want to build a bigger table and also invert the pedals. I went with a seat from a Mercedes 190 from the local salvage yard. All in all it is a great design and a great rig. I have full adjustments with the seat which allows it to be used by all shapes and sizes. Thanks again to Simul8r for all his leg work. With out it I wouldn't have such a great rig.

Nice work Scotty, I'm glad to see that you're using the tilt wheel method. Is it providing that bit of adjustability for your game? Also, what size flat screen are you using in the pic and are you planning on mounting onto your front table after it's been added?

Yes the adjustable table is exactly what is needed. That flat panel is 55" and no I don't plan on sitting it on the rig. It would be to close if I did. I plan on using table for other things such as holding tv remotes joysticks and such. I plan on using the rig as a all in one gaming station. It really has been a joy to build and use. I still can't thank you enough for sharing your ideas. We all owe you.

Hey guys,

wanted to get some feedback on the tactile transducers, aka "Buttkicker" "Aura Bass Shaker" etc.

I am located in Canada so keeping that in mind for ordering online and shipping, I am able to get the Buttkicker LFE shipped to me for around $250 which includes the amp etc. Problem is that I do not have the clearance under my seat to mount this thing. So I would have to change the seat mount on the rig to accommodate. Also the price is high...

I have looked into the next best option which seems to be the Aura AST-2b-4. This thing is flatter and would mount right to the bottom of the seat. This guy I can get for only $75 shipped but I will still need the amp. Parts express carries a few cheap ones but they are out of stock at the moment. So all in it would probably be around $110-$120 CDN, a big savings.

Has anyone attached a tactile transducer to their rig yet? I saw that you had ordered the aura and the amp simul8r, from parts express too.

I went with the Aura (50watt) from Amazon.com for about 135 US plus shipping. It seemed enough for my needs in my first rig, I couldn't push the volume close to half way without causing complaints from the wife since the shakes traveled to the adjacent walls  plus as you pointed out it appears designed to conveniently fit into shallow places such as under the seat, easy to mount to a flat surfaces and wasn't to costly with the inclusion of the sub amplifier (70watt). How I mounted Aura was by bolting a 1/2 inch wooden board underneath the seat's frame to whatever metal that was exposed and available to drill. It was rather tight to slip my hand between cushion and seat frame in order to insert my screws to mount the board by facing them (screws) inside out. I then bolted the shaker with more screws to the the board seperately. I haven’t fired up the shaker yet but I shouldn’t see a problem seeing that’s similiarly how I had it done in my first rig.

Hi community,

thanks to all you guys out there for sharing their thoughts and ideas. Special credits of course go to simul8r for the initial idea and his kindness to share his plans! I reckon you've earned yourself quite a reputation in the world of simracing!

I've read the whole thread up and down a couple of times just to collect all the info about sizes, measurements and so on. Converted this to metric (I am from Germany). Went to local hardware

stores. Found nothing appropriate! The PVC pipes that I could find all had a wall strength of up to 2mm, which is about half the size that you recommend. So I googled and found a special

dealer around here. They told me that only the pipes would cost about 200 EUR!!! Altogether with the fittings this would be roughly around 400 - 500 EUR. That's crazy.

Is there anybody out there from germany who has successfully build such a rig at an affordable price? Or do you know of a dealer who has the required material and is willing to ship to germany? I guess HomeDepot will not do this ...

Of course I could build my rig out of wood (I guess we have that here), but I really like the look and lightweight construction that is behind this PVC rig and would love to build one.

Any ideas/comments?

Thanks,

Ralf

Ralf, based on our PM's with each other I wish you good luck in finding the materials in Germany.

If anyone has any leads on the supply of material in his area then please chime in and offer your help.

Sim

I went with the butkicker gamer2 and mounted it to the rig just behind the seat I hardly turn it up and the wife complaines so it must be working properly

Just out of curiosity drag, how did you mount the kicker. Did you connect it to the seat or the rig itself?

Thanks for that info simul8r. I am most likely going to go with the Aura and one of the Lepai amps from Parts Express. Shipping is massive but I don't really have any other alternatives.

I was checking the local pawn stores for an amp that I could get on the cheap, of course car amps came to mind but they require DC power so that is out.

I read online that you can just use a regular home theatre receiver that has a sub out to power the aura. The pawn shops were loaded with old receivers for $30 to $50 and I even have an old receiver laying around but it's sub out is a single RCA plug and the Aura requires the seperate + - channels wired to it.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

**EDIT** Also I found this cool FAQ on TTs (Tactile transducers) http://www.baudline.com/erik/bass/tactile_faq.html in it the guy states that isolating the rig from the floor with rubber grommets or foam pads will greatly increase the functionality of any TT as the vibrations will stay more confined to the rig and transfer less to the floor. I was planning to put those furniture pads on my rig as my floors are wood and the rig is scratching the floors some as I move it around. I understand the buttkicker kits come with the rubber grommets. Can anyone vouch for this being true?

Hello,

it seems I just found a supply here in germany. I don't have the material yet but it's on the way and should arrive in a couple of days. If it is really what is needed then I will soon start building my own rig!

Of course, I will post pictures as soon as possible. And I will post ordering information for those also looking for it, once I can confirm that the material is okay. By the way: pipes (10 meters), fittings, glue (1 kg) and cleaning liquid (1 kg) plus shipping: 152 EUR. On the website they say they also ship to other european countries, but I didn't check the price for that.

I will keep you updated. I am really excited!

Ralf

Hey all !

First of all thanks to SIMUL8R for posting the original rig and to everyone else for posting their mods.

Also a shout out to ryanwalker for the B&Q link, made this just a little bit more possible.

My brother came across this and after showing me I would like to build one for my self ( after we build his ), so just a few questions, are their any messurements and parts list for the MKII? As we are PC gamers and would like to add a monitor table and to mount a keyboard to the rig.

And has anyone used a Rothenberg Plasticut Plastic Pipe Cutter

3706077037574040_5.jpg

or anything like this before to cut the tubing ??

As a plumber by trade I use a variation of that for cutting copper pipe, and have to say with all the cuts needed for this rig. you're going to have some very sore fore arms by the time your done.

I use this at work for cutting PVC at work.

http://www.amazon.com/Reed-RS2-2-4-Ratc ... B001H4RTCU

I only paid about $80 for mine at the wholesaler.

Honestly just do what ISR did and buy a miter saw. Bit of an investment, but it's something you can use in the future for other projects.

Unfortunately CyberTon I'd have to agree with Android. I've also worked previously with copper pipes in the past as a refrigeration mechanic and using a cutting tool that you've shown requires alot of forearm twisting that will have you in tears by the end of the day after completing all the cuts. If purchasing a power (miter) saw is out of the question than a standard handheld reciprocating wood saw should do the job near as good but with a little more effort keeping your cuts straight.

BTW, all the measurements have been posted back several pages, please review the thread thoroughly.
