Sponts 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2012 50mm PVC pipe in the UK looks to be available from swimming pool accessory suppliers. Run a quick Google search but this is one possible supplier - http://www.onlinepoolstore.co.uk/grey-pvc-pipe--fittings-90-c.asp THANKS! I after making my post I also found some pvc pipes but they were rather expensive. Your link is great. Placed my order and will soon start building too. My rig will be very different from all of yours so I will post some pics too once I get things going.
dragracer 5 Report post Posted May 10, 2012 Looks great. I'm glad you like it. It should hold up better than paint for sure. I have a feeling this will be the new standard for painting sim rigs. I love that textured finish, it does give it that steel look. 200 grit I just used a red scotch bright.
micnolmad 1 Report post Posted May 10, 2012 Wow, that looks just too awesome! Is it the grid 200 that makes the textures or a combination of the grid and Bedliner?
simul8r 114 Report post Posted May 10, 2012 Anyway I'll throw some pictures of my old rig up probably pretty soon but a big thanks to Simul8r for sharing your amazing design!!! -Matt Your welcome Matt and have fun with the build. simul8r 114 Report post Posted May 10, 2012 Well, aside from the lack of the reverse pedals and the keyboard deck which I'm still mauling over, I would guess the Mk II rig is about 95% completed. 2 RoadKill and P_Walker reacted to this
Lothurin 1 Report post Posted May 10, 2012 now thats exactly what i'm looking to do with my Simul8r rig. I just haven't quite figured out how to setup the reversed pedals 1 dan86p reacted to this
KartRacer94 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2012 Hey Guys, So I finished my SIMUL8R rig minus paint and its awesome! Thanks again SIMUL8R and ISR for posting this thread, This is my first rig and its rock solid. I set mine up for the CSR wheel, Shifter, and Elite pedals and everything works great. Used Hard wood instead of MDF just to see if I could get a little more longevity out of it. But all in all if your on a budget or not I would seriously recommend this rig for quality, adjustability, and for its customization potential. Uploaded some pics below. ryanwalker 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2012 Hi folks ben watching progress on this build. looks great and i will hopefully do a build of my own during the summer. I made a quick list on b&q for anybody in the uk. It is just basic pipes and fitting but I couldn't find decent clamps or straps. Looking in local hardware store might get better results for these as well as for pvc adhesive. I hope this helps Have fun with your builds. http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/shopping/ ... gList=true

horace01 1 Report post Posted May 12, 2012 Hi All, About to go out and start buying some materials for my build. Just a wee suggestion... If you plan on painting your rig why not sand / scotch bright your pvc pipes before you start cutting them down to size. Sure is a lot easier to rub back a single long pipe rather than 40 small ones. 1 BamBam reacted to this
KartRacer94 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2012 Congrats Tyler, she looks clean. How's the wheel deck handling for you under the forceback of the Fanatec? Thanks, and yes its very solid with the wheel. I added 2 3/8 bolts through the wheel deck and PVC once I got it where I wanted it to insure zero wobble.
Shaun Cole 10 Report post Posted May 12, 2012 Great Idea on the paint Horace, everything would be easier in lengths, then just sand the connectors and paint, great idea.
stratosupra 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2012 I just started, the PVC didn't cost more than $80 at Home Depot. Below are all the materials. Just need to mount my wheel, pedals, seat, and computer.
simul8r 114 Report post Posted May 14, 2012 Hi All, About to go out and start buying some materials for my build. Just a wee suggestion... If you plan on painting your rig why not sand / scotch bright your pvc pipes before you start cutting them down to size. Sure is a lot easier to rub back a single long pipe rather than 40 small ones. It's a good idea and I have thought about it but I decided at the end that I was eventually going to sand out most of the rough edges that were produced by either mocking, glueing and most especially deep scratches caused by pounding on and off fittings and pipes. I've noticed from experience how a textured surface PVC tends to pick up alot more of the dirt, grime or grease that can be cleaned off easier while in it's original state prior to painting. But it's merely a preference in any case. Oh, and have fun with your build horace01.

Hiya Mr. Cole, just want to thank you again for providing a most informative and humorous vid of the build. I must of watched it several times but it was the outakes that I found most entertaining..."It's a PVC bug...Hehe"

simul8r 114 Report post Posted May 14, 2012 Reverse pedals done. I've read stories about modding the logy's brakes and the amount of force needed to compress it, so, I added meaures to make sure the pedal deck itself does not creep away from me while in play even though I had Simpson Strong Tie brackets up in front. Plus it adds a bit more color and mechanical ruggedness to the overall scheme of things, IMO. 1 RoadKill reacted to this

simul8r 114 Report post Posted May 15, 2012 Just finished assembling the pieces of my rig! The only change I might make is bringing the side arms in a little, I'm going to try replacing the 4 1/2 pieces with 3 inch ones to bring them in a bit Video to come... Awesome, the beauty of mocking up the rig prior to glueing is that you can make changes such as adding that other side pipe or shortening some pieces. BTW, how difficult is it to climb in with both sides added? Video? Sweet, looking forward to it.
AsthMattic 4 Report post Posted May 15, 2012 It wasn't a big deal with that configuration because I had roomm between the seat and the side rail to put my foot then it was just a slide in, I don't know how bolting the seat in and bringing the rail closer will effect that though.... And yes I filmed the assembly an some walk-around footage that I'm gonna put together with some time lapse, should be nice After some thought Im not certain about bringing the right side in because once the shifter mount is on it should be comfy, but I think I will the left and I'm seeing a cup holder in my future, but I'm not sure... Another point about construction is that I cut all the pieces by hand with a reciprocating saw and it all seems to fit just right even though my lines are far from perfect, just a note
