After days of struggling to go faster than race trim on a qualifying run, I have finally worked out a qualifying strategy for Laguna Seca that works: Go flat-out on the outlap and sing REM's "Losing My Religion" to myself all the way around the hotlap.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease set up a camera :D That is one thing I want to miss ;)

That's me in the corner... That's me in a slide, now, losing the back of my Vectra...

I fear this thread has taken a horrible turn! :)

If I heard that song in my head I would floor it straight into a wall and pray I don't survive. LOL ;)

I actually rather enjoy driving it...i hate racing it :)

For those who dont know be sure to watch last 2 seasons at Laguna.... all on our youtube page its enjoyable :)

Enjoyable for everyone except you I'm guessing ;)

I think I'm just not liking it, but I think its because of how the Merc is responding to the track, hard to get the car fast through the corners without getting snap oversteer, same I got at the second to last corner at Watkins

I'm in the same boat as you Rhys. I've never liked this track, especially in Race07 (the rFactor version is at least modelled better) but even that version I was slow at.

Then I was on the server the other day, and I was only able to do 33s for race pace, while I could see Alexander able to do low 31s quali pace, so expect a 30 to take pole.

The annoying thing for me, is that my one lap pace sucks now, no idea why it's vanished now.

So the best I can hope for is to do well in cutting through the traffic to get into the top 8 with a good pit strategy.

Racecraft wins over time. I stopped getting all hyped up about everyone elses pace and work on a solid race strategy with repeatable performance and having a 2 plan attack depending on my position after about 40% race distance.

trust me. plenty of drivers will hang themselves given enough rope.........:D

Drivers,

Below are special drivers' briefing instructions for ATCC 5, Round 2 at Laguna Seca, please read:

  • [*:3dfksf7g]Cutting:
  • If you have been practicing, you should know by now that the game will DQ you for repeatedly cutting some places on the track (The Corkscrew). That said, the game does not detect cutting on all of the turns.

You must adhere to the TPS track boundary rules at all times. They can be found
HERE.

Be advised, I will be spot checking Turns 4, 6, and 10 carefully, as significant time can be gained by cutting these corners. If I see one cut, I will look for more, so don't do it!

Additionally, if you are seen cutting on the broadcast or your cutting is reported by another driver, I will not only investigate that incident but also look further to see if you are cutting repeatedly throughout the race. Drivers found to be violating the track boundary rules will be penalized.

  • [*:3dfksf7g]Pit Entry and Exit:
  • Drivers must respect the pit lane when exiting the pits during official practice, qualifying and during the race. During the race, drivers must keep all four wheels within the pit entry and exit lines when entering and exiting the pits.

You may NOT take a right turn from the garage and exit via the pit entry to start a hot lap right away. This will look bad and very unprofessional on the broadcast.

You may NOT cross the pit lane out onto the front straight when exiting the pits. You must respect the pit exit lane and join the track after the Andretti Hairpin.

Not respecting pit entry direction and pit exit lane during Official Practice and Qualifying will be penalized. Pit lane violations during the race will also be penalized.

If you have any questions, please ask.

See you all on the track tomorrow!
