Sim Racers - Introduce yourselves here

Hi, I've been posting for a while but realized I never properly introduced myself.

I'm Wendy, 48 from Northern Virginia.

My first "sort of sim" racing experience was PGR 2 on the original xbox.

Ran forza, forza 2 and now forza 3...lately I've been getting seriously into the PC sims, mostly iRacing but also RBR, rFactor, LFS, etc.

I have Dirt 2 and F1 Championship on the PS3 as well.

One funny story with Forza 2 is my Folks were visiting not long after it came out and I set my Dad up in "practice" mode and he was hooked...every time we were hanging out at my house he requested I "boot up the game" for him. (I'd love to get him into something like iRacing but I'm sure he'd say he doesn't have time for it.)

VA. Represent! lol

Welcome aboard.

Hello there fellow racers,

As some of you may have already noticed me posting, i couldn't figure out the location of the introduction thread. :P

So, i am Dominique, from Belgium, age 21. This will be a short story long, i know, it doesn't make sense at all huh?

Ok let' continue then, i always loved racing games, i remember the first time i ever got into games was when i bought a brand new PS1 with the game driver, loved it to death, i then moved on to other games like gran turismo 1,2,4... I basically had all of them except GT5P & GT5 as i currently don't own a PS3 but an Xbox360 where the G27 is sadly not compatible with it, but that didn't scare me off actually, i have Forza 2, Dirt, Grid, PGR4 & all the great racers on the Xbox360 you could think off but then i realized, hey there have to be some decent racers on the pc & the graphics are certainly going to be an improvement over the consoles.

Browsing youtube i came across insidesimracing & watched a lot of different episodes. I loved the G27 & Fanatec GT3 review but eventually opted for the Logitech G27 out of personal choice, now did i miss anything during the intro? Be sure to let me know. ;)

Hey Wendy ! Great to see another lady amongst us.. Love the story about your Dad.. I got mine into sim racing and he did it for about 10 years and then retired.. I know he misses it.. Just can't get him to come back though "Im too busy"

I need to start some of my posts like this "Hey Guys and Girls", instead of, "Hey Guys.." ;-)

Looking forward to racing with you in the tuner challenge this weekend !

Hi guys,

I guess I should introduce myself.

Short version:

My name is Genady, 46 computer professional (self employed), was born in former Soviet Union, currently live in

Nashua NH married 2 grown up kids. Sim racing addict:):)

Long virssion:

I was born to the family of car fanatics. My grad was one of the best mechanics in the city. He used to buy post war German and US cars fix them and sell then. Last car he had I remember as a kid. It was Chrysler Imperial. I have one picture of it if you care to see it:

http://myfiles.angen.net/imperial.jpg

On that picture my grand parents and my dad. My dad was car enthusiast himself. Loved everything about cars!

According to my mam I was sim racer since I was 4 years old! Wait! how come? Well here is a funny story. My parents bought a new tvs. For those of you who forgot, not till long time ago tvs came in a huge bulky boxes. My parents could not throw the box away since I set it up as my cockpit and constantly was stilling plates from the kitchen to use the as steering wheel. Who will say that is not a begging of sim racing for early 70s?

Anyway, rewinding forward to computer area, My first system was xt with 20 meg hd and floppy!! My first game was some kind of racing game on a floppy. Then there was NFS(s) and my son's PS2 with F1 racing. But It was kind of on and off. I really got back into the game in 2007 when I just went out and got myself a PS3 and Grid. The was the game I started with. Now I play racing games at least 2 - 3 times per week and even have a designated room in the house for it. I do not play PC racing (not yet). Few reasons: Do not like an idea of having games on my work machine. Just a bit paranoid on a subject, and a bit (how should I put it?) turned off by the wealth of all kind of opportunities there. I just do not have time to download install/download/install I starting my own business and I am generally very busy and involved with computers during the day, when I have 30 - 60 minutes to play at night I just want to do that I want to come load the game do a few runs and go back to work. Searching for new mods installing trying, it all seam to be mop0re involved then I can afford to be at this point. But who knows. My son and I do talk about building a killer gaming pc for our gaming room so you never know.

Other then gaming my interest are digital photography, hard rock/metal music. I do live performance photography when I get a chance. Well this is it. Sorry for a such a long post

PS3: DioFan (Grid, Dirt 2, Nfs Shift)

xBox: MidnightRider63 Forza 3 (still working on it)

Hi Guys

I'm Mark McRae or Macka.

I live in Brisbane Australia....this week.

I am a Photographer specialising in Aerial survey/Mapping. (although recent foray into Directional drilling).

I turned 39 in July........of 1998!!!

I have been into racing sims for.....oh let me think....2 weeks now.

I ran across a half price version of Dirt2 for 20 bucks on steam.....so thought I might give it a whirl.....have been into Combat flight sims and Milsims for years and needed a new challenge. Unfortunately couldn't get Dirt 2 to run on my PC's so went looking through the web for fix.....stumbled across this site and the video review of the Fanatec porche wheel.......Well, that turned out to be the most expensive video I ever watched......2 days and $284 later I was sitting at the wheel of a V8 at Eastern creek in Rfactor. Joined iRacing so am starting at the bottom but have lofty goals.....so will see you all in the middle of the rookie pack around the end of next year.....lol.

Still cant get Dirt 2 to run....oh well.

Cheers

Macka

Hi all,

I'm Mike (34), I live in Maryland with my wife, Carey and daughter, Evelyn. I'm lucky enough that my family indulges (and shares a little bit of) my hobby. I've enjoyed sim racing off and on for the past 20 years, lately it's been almost exclusively on consoles (although iRacing is working really hard to change that).

I started watching SRT last year and have started getting more serious about sim racing only recently. I've also had the chance (thanks to Carey) to get some on-track time locally over the past few years. This is what really sparked my interest in serious sim-racing.

Hey Mike...how are you guys doing with the storm? We had 30 inches in Northern VA...I think I spent 5 1/2 hours digging over the weekend...too much!!

Hi Wendy,

we got nicely hammered up here, ~ 25 inches. My wife and I spent all Saturday taking turns at digging out the driveway. Fortunately, we live off the main loop of the development and that road has been properly cleared. My parents in law live in Oakton and they had ~ 20". They had to clear out a path from their house to the end of the cul-de-sac. Luckily they own a big snowblower...

This storm reminds me of when I was a bit younger and lived more north...

Looking forward to Tuesday and son of blizzard '10; what's another 5" on top of 25...

My name is Casey and for most of my life I've been a car guy.

I've owned two third-gen Trans Ams and currently own an '88 Mazda RX7 that is undergoing extensive modification. It has been nothing but a money pit and a labor of love.

At a young age my father would take me to the drag strip which furthered my lust for cars and subsequently, racing. I never really got serious into the straight line stuff. Living in rural Alabama, I had some pretty interesting roads(paved and unpaved) to traverse. This got me into road course racing, which led to an addiction in video gaming by way of Gran Turismo 1.

The Trans Am was never going to be a worthy road racer so I spent most of my time on the virtual tracks attempting to get my fix. I followed the console side of things because at the time PC tech. was far too expensive to be a viable source of entertainment. So on I played, then Forza revolutionized my gaming experience. I still drool at the thought of all of those cars upgradeable and tunable in so many ways. I still play FM3 on a semi-regular basis with my friends from exodusracing.net, but just recently I got into iRacing which sees most of my spare time now. I like to think the RX7 will move in on some of that time once its back from the engine builder, then I hope to put it on my 'local' track Barber Motorsport Park and do some club racing/auto-x from time to time.

Anyways, if I'm not working, you can usually find me on iRacing or Forza 3/xbl.

Hello all. My name is Chad and unless you count Excite Bike and FZero, I’m relatively new to sim racing. I didn’t really get pulled into this hobby until I purchased the PS3 (early ’08). I downloaded the GT HD concept game and immediately got hooked. Shortly there after, I started onine racing with TOCA 3 where I met a bunch of great racers and people.

I raced TOCA 2, TOCA 3, GT5 prologue, and Ferrari challenge before making the transition to PC sims. These days I mainly play rFactor. I race offline, online for fun, and in an online point series league.

I enjoy Inside Sim Racing TV and consider it a great resource for this hobby. Thanks guys!

Hello fellow racers my name is Paul, I'm from the glory days of NASCAR Racing on DOS (yes, when you had to reboot the computer into game mode).

I've been hopping around ever since NR2003 but never really strayed to far until last year I discovered the wonderful world of rFactor. I still run in a weekly series in the Stock Car Evolution mod at ESRL.com but for the past few weeks I've been heavily back into iRacing as I haven't found any competition for it yet (at least on the oval side of things, I'm still the world's sketchiest road racer outside of Watkins Glen).

Hi!

My name is Fredrik and im a beginner simracer from Sweden. And really got hooked on Simracing a few months ago when i discoverd Inside SimRacing on youtube, i pulled out and dusted of the old copy of Race 07 and bolted the MOMO wheel down on the desk. I´ve been a general car guy since i was born almost 24years ago.

And now after running a countless amount of laps in Race 07 with all the expansionpacks i´ve now moved on to rFactor today.

Hope to see you on the track.

Hi there fellow sim racers. Only just seen this topic here :?

My name's Steve, 22 years old and currently residing in the (wet and cold) United Kingdom. I own an Xbox 360, PS3 and a Wii, but i'm looking to start exploring the wide world of sim racing on the PC. I mainly play my sim racing games on the 360 (gamertags Steven006. Feel free to add me if you fancy a race!). I was part of a Championship that ran Race Pro on the 360, but the creator get's bored every 5 minutes and starts something else up

I discoverd Inside Sim Racing purely by mistake (and one of the best mistakes that i've ever done!). Been a big fan of the show ever since. I own Race 07 on the PC, but the lack of the wheel makes driving quite frustrating. Massive car and bike fan, and i love my motorsports. I try to go to as many motorsport events as i can.

Well, that's enough from me. Hope to see you all out there soon!

Hey people.

Name's Bojan Ivanović; in-game nickname System_Sh0ck (or System_Shock if it's not taken :P ).

I'm 25, from Zagreb, Croatia. Been playing racing games since Test Drive.

Only played games on the PC so never played any of the GT and Forza games  but there's a PS3 somewhere out there with my name on it. Or there will be in the near future.

Favourite disciplines: rally, touring.

Haven't really put much effort into sim racing up until recently. Now I'm playing rFactor and (still) Richard Burns Rally.

I'm driving on a MOMO Racing Force for now.

Love the show, keep up the great work and hope to see you all on a track. :)

Gold Coast, Australia

49 years old

3 grown kids (1 boy & 2 girls)

Married 26 years

I spent 11 years in the IT industry, and now dabble with that and have returned to the security industry.

I've always gamed to one extent or another, but mostly offline. I got into racing games with the first NFS, and continued through the first couple of Nascar releases, graduating with the newer titles over time, until I discovered RFactor in 2007. I am the owner & site admin of Online Racing Australia.

I have a g25 wheel and pedals set up in a home built pod/simulator I built about 15 months ago when I suddenly found myself unemployed. I've been a big fan of the show for quite a while now, and have finally gotten my act together and registered on the forum.

I run a home built AMD rig that is a dedicated sim racing box (except for doing skins and race videos), which is actually located in my home built sim cockpit.

CPU: AMD 64 X2 AM2 6000+ @ 3000Mhz

Hi all.

Well, my name is Petros Mak and most of you will know me as the leader of MAK-Corp. Others of you will know me as the spawn of satan that is trying to brainwash everyone and take over the world. Well, I do try to hide my horns as much as I can but sometimes they do come out like this guy ->

I'm 27 years old turning 28 in September, I live in Australia but was born in Greece and am pure Greek in nationality. I have a wife and a step son but I call him my son. I love racing, sim-racing, game development, reading fantasy novels, writing fantasy, anime, PC Hardware development, programming, pretty much anything.

I'm a pretty laid back guy and treat everyone equally with respect and only ask for the selfsame in return. I do hope to get to know some of you here. :)

A quick hello to Shaun and Darin, hey guys, great job you're doing here, keep up the excellent work. Oh, and you too Jessica :)

Hey guys (and I'm sure a few gals), Tim here.

I've been living in Houston Texas for almost 20 years (nice winters, miserable summers).

I started with the first Atari, and played so much, I broke several "joysticks." Anyone remember those? What a name for a controller. How about Atari Night Driver? Remember that one?

I didn't play so much when I went to college while working and then started a professional career as a graphic designer. I came back to gaming when I decided to buy the first Playstation, and was introduced to Laura Croft and the Tomb Raider series. Then the day came that I knew sim-racing had a promising future. I actually got one of the first copies of Gran Turismo in the United States. It blew me away, and I "lost" several days as I played through that incredible game.

I've played through the whole GT series, and am waiting to see what Polyphony will deliver--hopefully in October?!!

I'm currently "racing" through Forza 3's career mode when I have time, and starting to race more online as the better drivers are now staying to race (and the "bumper car kids" have gotten bored and gone elsewhere).

So I guess you could say I'm more of a console racer right now. Because I prefer to use my home entertainment system while racing, I built a folding wheel stand years ago that I could put away when friends come over for a movie--and for the past few months have put a lot of time and money (and a little blood here and there) into creating a production version of the stand.

When things settle down, I hope to race more online and would like to be a part of a good community of more "professional" racers that don't slam in to you or pile up on the first corner (common problem with console games--but has improved due to game developers' efforts). Of course I'll want to go all out and build a powerful PC specifically for sim racing, and look to this site and its' forums for information on the best software and additional accessories--I've learned a lot in the past few weeks after first discovering this site.

Because of my "console" experience, I'll have to get a video card with HDMI plugged in to at least a 40" LCD (or maybe three) and a sound system that will bring the neighbors along for the ride. That's just the way I roll ;-).

Sim racing is still coming of age, and I'm glad I'm here to enjoy it.

Here's what I "drive" around town--when I'm not on my carbon fiber rocket...
