Hey guys!

Been a big arcade collector for quite some years now and its fun but getting old, I have sold the majority of my collection to fund my sim racing career.

I am getting married tomorrow (the 7th) and currently in the process of buying a house, When all this is said and done I will be purchasing all my gear, To start I figured the obutto ozone with tripple monitor mount, 3 24" asus monitors, and the logitech g27 to start. I have a gaming pc at the moment but am building a new and better one dedicated to the sim rig. I cant wait to get started, I plan on using iRacing as my go to, with some rfactor in there as well cause you cant beat the price, hoping to take this very seriously as racing has been something I have always wanted to do and have done in the past! This site has been extremely helpful so far, and I am constantly browsing threads all day and night to find more info. Theres a lot I need to learn but that will come with time im sure!!

My name is Tim. I am new to the race scene but I have been bitten and bitten hard.... I have recently purchased a G27 and wow... It made the bite worse...

When I race, I race on the PC. In an old (almost broken) computer chair. Which is when I got my friend involved. He is a bit more mechanically inclined than me. We are in the process of building a rig. If interested, I'll post pictures in a new thread later.

ANYWAY... Since the bug has bitten I've been cruising youtube and SRT videos really pulled me in. I have been a lurker for a while now and today is the day I pull the trigger and join the community. I'm really excited to be a member here and I'm 100% sure I'm going to learn a lot.

HAPPY RACING!!!

-Tim

Hey everyone,

Name is Chris, from Montreal. Been a pc gamer for ever but, only started iRacing recently and really enjoying it. Used to play a lot of GT back on PS2 but, didn't have the same perspective of sim's back then.

I work on my ''race car'' and do driving events on my free time during the summer and was introduced to iRacing by fellow racer and colleague a few weeks ago. :-P

Current setup is pretty simple. triple display 24 inch (had that already for when I work at home) and purchased a g27 currently mounted to work desk. Should have done more research on wheels before getting in to it but, still very pleased with the Logitech wheel in general.

Plans for the future, after racing season is over. Build a rig, either mod brake pedals or purchase new set (G27 really don't feel right when stock). Will also try to change the stiffness of the shifter or get a sequential ( stock it feel like my first car, a 1992 mk2 golf with finished shifter linkage ). Going to put my current race seat and steering wheel on the rig because the race car is getting new safety equipment for 2014 season.

Watched a lot of the InsideSimRacing videos recently and hope to get more knowledge from the community about this great hobby. :)

Some videos of different event I have done this summer:

Hello my name is Cameron Dance and I am from Auckland, New Zealand. I have been sim racing for many years but only casually and not very often but have recently taken a turn and decided it was time to go serious and turn to PC once and for all and get my own setup sorted since the Xbox One and PS4 will be so expensive (over $700 NZD for the xbox one, no way). Atm I use a keyboard but plan on getting a Logitech G27 next year due to not enough funds right now. I also drive go karts and I drive a KZ2 (125cc water cooled, 6 speed sequential shifter, soft tyres and front and rear brakes). I must say I am quite fast for someone who uses a keyboard so look out when on track with me.

Hi all!

My name is Nils. I am 37 years (old) and come from Scheessel. This is located in the middle between Hamburg and Bremen, in northern Germany.

I am very interested in cars and motorsports. There is often much work to do at my own real car, an 2000 Audi S6 4.2 Avant Quattro, it´s one of a few that have been built with the manual 6-speed transmission, not with the 5-speed Tiptronic Automatic transmission...

But I am a big fan in simracing.  I started in 2005 with GT Legends, in a german league, which has retired in 2006. Then I changed to rFactor, and became a member in the biggest german online racing league "Virtual Racing eV". There I raced in a few seasons with rFactor with several cars, but mostly classic racecars. The last season I drove was in early 2012 with the DRM Mod V1.1. Here I got the second place in the overall standing of Division 1 in the end. After this I didn´t drive anything online because I had no time, and my old Logitech Driving Force GT was almost dead...  ;-)

Now I have a brand new G27, and the TH8RS shifter from Thrustmaster, and would like to drive another DRM season. I found your league and would like to know, if it would be possible to join the new DRM season here at your community...?

Hope to see you in the next time on track!

Hi SimRacers,

My name is Martin van Hagen from the Netherlands, EU, and to date 47. I am an Instrument Engineer in the Oil & Gas world and work offshore most of my career since graduation in 1986. I have been introduced to simracing since June 2013 and since then I have been gathering parts and hatching ideas to built a sim rig.

To date I:

  • Have purchased Fanatec Clubsport base, Formula & GT -wheels; Fanatec Clubsport V2 pedals; Cobra Suzuka pro-fit seat; Logitec Z906 surround sound speaker system; Derek Speare Design CSW ultra Series button controllers.
  • Have to purchase a game computer; MSI 4,7-i7/250GB-SSD/2x16GB-DDR3-1600/2x1TB-HDs(RAIDconf)/Water cooling H100i/2xNVDIA-GSX780/Cooler Master HAF XB/Cooler Master Silent Pro MII 1000, Triple screens;LG-EA53VQ, 7x LFE Buttkickers.
  • Am constructing 7 x Velleman K8081Powerblocks (to drive the LFE buttkickers), the sim rig frame from extruded aluminum (by Rose & Krieger), rig management controller (ArduinoUno),...
  • Am modifying the sim rig frame with the local supplier to achieve the highest achievable ridgid frame. At present the base is 1800mmx700mmx500mm(lxwxh) and with the triple screen frame 1500mmx1200mm(hxw). I wonder if there is an satisfying end to the present thoughts I have as it seems to get "better" by the weeks passing ......
  • Still debating to go with SimXperience motion system (150mm SCN6 40Kgf Motion Starter Kit).

Enjoying every minute of this process and hope to post some pictures of my rig soon!

In the whole process I am open for your advice and comments.....

In the mean time happy Sim Racing to you all!!!!

Hello, I'm Jim From England but I live and work in Belfast Northern Ireland. This is my first post on this forum and I can't find an introduction thread anywhere so I've started this in my current favourite sim. I mainly play GSC 2013 and Ftruck which in my opinion has the best physics and FFb of any racer. I enjoy watching the youtube vids of the show, keep up the good work. Cheers

Hello race fans.

I showed you my XRod now a lil about me.

I'm 40 something like 44-45 I'm not sure. Lol

I live in Gilbert AZ. 6000 square miles of beach

Just no ocean. Winter time it's georgeous here.

Summer sun will cook your head! 9 months of bliss. 3 months you think the gates of hell are just out your front door.

Together with my wife we have 5 kids. 3 boys 2 girls. 3 hers 2 mine. 2 20 year old girls 2 18 year old boys and a 14 year old boy.

Together the wife and I run a small entertainment company. DJ/KJ karaoke, weddings, private party's corporate events and now with the addition of a truly mobile xbox based 33 ford racing rig any hot rod events that will have me. See mad mikes XRod pics in DYI section.

I've been into any and all racing games I can get my hands on.

Starting with pole position in the arcades not very realistic but it was 1983 arcade game. But I loved it and dumped quater after quater in it.

Eventually I got into console racing games with gran turismo on play station. But then life had other directions planned for me. Kids work bla bla bla. So

Now I race on xbox 360 any game that has FFB is cool by me.

Not sure if I'm a racer that loves to mod stuff or a moder who loves to race!

Truly been modding things since I was 5.

If it didn't work. Take it apart n put it back together. Some times it works again.

Some things just didn't work to my liking and need an "adjustment"!!!

I'm also an artist and carpenter just love wood working and have created a lot of wood art and furniture. So adding my love of wood working to my love for racing and my love for old hot rods and my experience designing and engineering things that I want but don't exhist.

And TaDa the XRod was born.

I have plans to build a PC and start Iracing but gotta let the smoke clear from this build before I can start. We have needs so the wife says.

And at this point I'm still ecstatic with my creation so no rush and I agree we do need stuff for real life first. Perhaps after the new car I can get a PC build started.

So that's my story. I'm a moder who loves to race

If anyone has an idea and needs advice on building or engineering. Hit me up. Always willing to help.

Mad Mike out

Hi y’all,

I’m Greg Polen from College Station, Texas.
Have one 17 year old daughter and two 20 year old sons.
I'm 49 and been playing video games since 1978.
I game on the PC.

I remember when Hard Drivin’ showed up in the Mall’s arcade. I was hooked and spent many quarters on this game. This was 1989 and home computers and game consoles could not replicate this experience.

I think it was ’95 or so when I had a PC with a good video card. I had Need for Speed and a ThrustMaster wheel and pedals. No feedback, this wheel had a bungee cord in it. LOL. I then got Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit and drove the crap out of that wheel breaking the bungee cord many time. I just tied another knock in it and away I went.

I then got into FPS games and didn’t really drive much, so driving got put to the side, but I always wanted to start driving again.

Computer gaming kind of took a back seat to family, but now that my kids are grown I decided to get things going again so I started doing research into driving games and what’s out there.

I came across these two guys, Darin Gangi and Shaun Cole. You guys are amazing! Thank you so much for all the hard work you two have done! It made my research a snap. You guys got me up to speed on the technology of Sim Racing. Love the new web site too.

I currently have a dedicated desktop setup with triple monitors with a single video card. I got a T500RS and CSR Elite pedals.

My very first mod is a metal plate bolted to the table and angled with the T500 bolted to it. After I pay off this computer, wheel and pedals I plan to get or make a rig. I have a friend who is handy like Shaun Cole and is a gamer/motor head. I think after he sees my setup, he will want one, so together we should be able to make something.

I look forward to seeing you on the track.

-Greg

Just realized I haven't done this yet, so here goes...

Name is Rob Tolley

Live in Peterborough, England

I'm 36.

Been a gamer since the days of the Atari 2600, now sim racing on Forza 4 and 5 with Virtual-Motorsports, but looking to expand into PC sim racing in the future.

Used to have PS2 and Gran Tourismo 3. I now have an Xbox360 and XboxOne.

Currently running NASCAR 09, GRiD 2, DiRT 3, WRC 4 , F1 2013, MotoGP 13 and Forza 4 on Xbox360 and Forza 5 on XboxOne.

I did dabble with iRacing a couple of years ago, but PC wasn't quite up to the task at the time so moved back to console racing.

Currently only drive with a controller but looking to get set up with a SIMUL8R rig and Fanatec wheel and pedals in the new year.

Just finished my first series with Virtual-Motorsports in their first Touring Car season. Raced in 4 of the 6 rounds and finished 21st in the Privateers points and 40th overall from a field of over 100 drivers. For me the racing isn't about winning, it's about the taking part and not coming last.
