Forza 3 Not Ready To Rumble?

9 posts in this topic

There has been a growing complaint from some internet forums of overly mild FFB and especially weak rumble effects on FORZA 3. Weak curb effects and feeble rumble strip effects are some of the common complaints. I dont think this was specifically picked up by our SRT team. Darin did make mention of FFB suffering in some areas and he singled out an overly abrupt slip point. The problems seem to affect both the MS and Fanatec wheels and it seems posters are postulating a software issue within FM3 as the cause. The trouble is that not all players seem to be aware of or bothered by this. Jonboy has made an eye opening comparison between FM3 and Farrari Challenge in part 12 of his excellent video review series. You can view his take on this here,

Have any of you guys found rumble and FFB weak on Forza 3 or is this simply a subtle choice made by Turn 10 to provide a more finessed drive?

Regards,

Paul

Thanks for plugging my vid series Paul ;)

The more I try it out the more I wonder whether the weak rumble and FFb is to do with the poor quality of the MS wheel.

That MS wheel has been notorious for it's reliability issues and fragility, so it makes me think that perhaps FFb effects have been intentionally turned down by T10 in an attempt to ensure that they don't get complaints of "Your game broke my wheel" I have no doubt that the FFb/Rumble effects felt through Ferrari Challenge -if felt through an MS wheel- would destroy the MS wheel within one evenings play.

Lord knows T10 have recieved enough complaints as it is and is suffering a severe lack of online players so another thing to add to the pile of problems could have been the last straw for the game.

Hi Jonboy,

After all your hard reviewing work I think you deserve all the credit you can get. With regard to Forza 3, I actually appreciate the subtle use of FFB in this game via the Fanatec wheel. I use FFB at 66% and as stated elsewhere anymore and the FFB would draw too much attention to itself. I do agree that more road vibration and rumble strip/up on curb effects would be welcome. I believe the new demo of GT5 on the PS3 has some novel road effects and Im dying to try it out with the new Fanatec Turbo Wheel and clubsport pedels which are just the best. The ironic thing is that I doubt I would have started this thread if I had been able to play FM3 with the wheel in the first place.

Best Wishes,

Paul

this is an older thread, but I just received my Fanatec wheel a few days ago and noticed this very same thing. I thought it was a problem with the wheel, I even have a thread going in the hardware section.

FFB is super strong and super nice, but the rumble effects are barely noticeable. I haven't had a chance to try other wheels, or other games with this wheel, so I don't have anything to compare.

In case some don't know, you get a lot of rumble with the Buttkicker which in my opinion makes up for some of the lack of rumble of the wheel. Fm3 bass works perfect so when you hit a curb or another car you can REALLY feel it. I recommend you turn down the in-race music so you will not get any rumble from the music.

P.S I got the Buttkicker a month ago because of ISR recommendation. Thanks ISR. I never heard of it before watching your show.

Of all the sim I've use so far Forza 3 seems to use it the best. I wouldn't be surprise if the game was design to take advantage of the Buttkicker.

Everybody says the same thing about rumble in forza 3, I've only got a M$ wheel (for the time being) and it also seems weak, But.......... I've noticed that it seems to pick up the finer things, for example when approaching higher revs, say from 4000rpm you get a slight rumble to simulate the vibration of the engine through the car chassis, Also tyre scrub from understeer OR bad tuning set-ups set it off too..... I think the lack of rumble was intentional from Turn 10 due to what Okoe Dokie said in the above post. A butt kicker or a good 5.1 surround sound set-up would replicate running over rumble strip/kerbs via subwoofer. Through my headphones that seems to be the case, and crashes are just immense!
