E_Nordhoff 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2012 Hi, I have had my G25 for over 3 years now and recently I have developed an issue. If I am involved in an accident or spin upon returning to the pits my G25 is straight but my ingame wheel is angled to the left or right(depending on incident) and the only way to fix it is to unplug USB and exit out of game, reset profiler and re enter game. I have read that perhaps it could be a loose optic sensor but I would love to have some confirmation on this. This issue also occurs while playing NR2003. Thank you for reading, Eric
Remco Hitman 49 Report post Posted April 5, 2012 Yes that is probably the problem. I had this too and it drove me mad. I have moderate electronics skills so I opened up the G25 and upon close inspection found the optic sensor wheel to be cracked. It's a tiny flywheel that spins in front of the sensor, not unlike the innards of a mouse wheel. I Carefully glued it together and it's been perfect since. E_Nordhoff 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2012 Thank you very much for the reply. I have almost no skills in this area but I will find someone that does and do my best to explain the issue to them. Again thank you for your time.
Remco Hitman 49 Report post Posted April 7, 2012 The sensor is under the black cap on the right motor as seen here (ignore the arrow): The flywheel as indicated by the right arrow had a crack in it:

As I'm about to ruin the base, it already cracked a little. Logitech could perhaps have made it a bit more obvious/easy to get it of.
Remco Hitman 49 Report post Posted June 26, 2012 No, but these guys can
bearmasta 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2012 No, but these guys can Thanks I actually found a way anyhow... But... The wheel won't calibrate now, it goes from side to side and then it's stuck in the left side - not going back to center while trying to calibrate... Any ideas? Does it do this all the time? When the wheel is on before or after you start the PC? What did you do inside the case? Was it the flywheel? Perhaps you put it back on in the one position that messes up calibration. Reseat the flywheel and try again. Also check for any loose plugs or damaged wiring. No damages whatsoever. It was definitely the flywheel. It was broken all the way into the seat... Maybe I was a bit "generous" with the glue ("cement" you use for model cars, planes, soldiers, tanks, you know what I mean?) If it is like a hall-signal/trigger sensor, light-no-light, then the excessive amount of glue could be fucking it up? I am opening my DFP to see if there is a flywheel I can use as spare part. EDIT: there is, but it's not same sadly! it has gears on it...
Remco Hitman 49 Report post Posted June 26, 2012 Oops Did you get glue in the spaces in the flywheel? In that case you probably ruined it mate You could try and peel it off with a needle dipped in acetone but be advised acetone will melt the wheel as well so be very careful. My advice would be to leave the flywheel in a glass of soapy water overnight to soften the glue. Yes that works. Try and poke it off with a needle. If that doesn't work well enough, try the acetone to open up the holes with the needle. Not an awful lot to lose at this point

But then again, there wouldn't be sold any successor-steering wheel then...

bearmasta 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2012 I don't know if you can salvage that but it's worth a try! How on earth am I going to do it?! It's so tiny... I'm like an elephant in china shop when it's this small

bearmasta 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2012 http://cmlaserservice.com/ HA! and it'll never ever crack... Logitech just asked me to buy a new G27, 50% off, but this is cheaper
bearmasta 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2012 Okay, I got the new encoder disc... But it didn't fix it. Is anyone really sharp when it comes to this type of sensor? I accidently made the base crack and now there might get some light into the housing... Is this a problem, or shouldn't it make a difference? I ask this because there's a connector going out of the cap/housing which I suppose isn't completely sealed too? When I put power and connect the wheel to the PC it just tries to do the calibration cycle but really it just jerks a little... Any ideas? If not, can anyone possibly point me in a direction for guidance?
Remco Hitman 49 Report post Posted July 4, 2012 No idea, sorry! Looks like you were rather clumsy while operating on your wheel
