AP Electrix Load Cell Mod for the Logitech G27 Pedals, Insta

35 posts in this topic

Our Installation and Review video of the AP Electrix load cell mod for the Logitech G25 or G27 pedals. As a sim racer the pedals are an important part of performance. And some people would argue that the brake pedal is as important as the steering wheel when it comes to fast lap times. In theory a load cell is a better measuring devise then a potentiometer. The AP Electrix upgrades the Logitech bake pedal to a load cell. In this video we show you how to install the load cell and then test its performance. We will point out the pros and cons and then score it so that you can decide if it would be of benefit to you.

Very very intersting :)

I have a four years old G25 and really think to buy a xbox compatible wheel in the near future. And it is more wife-friendly to keep my old pedals (instead of buying clubsport pedals) and add a load cell.

Is there a big difference between modified G25 pedals and clubsport load cell ?

Thank you again for the show !

Wow, a 10 on the rev scale for the APElectrix Load Cell! Great review. I have an uninstalled Nixim Mod sitting on my desk right now, and I already use a Bodnar cable. I know you guys have used all three mods (Bodnar, Nixim, APElectrix). How do the Nixim and APElectrix compare to each other?

I really want one of these and I did leave a pre-order request at the website, any idea how long it will take as I pre-ordered a few weeks back?

PS first time poster (Hi) just starting up in sim racing, and I'm F1 crazy.

i posted a link to this over on reddit and here is what one user had to say about this load cell.

"I have this load cell. Have had it for well over a year. I love it but cant give it a 10/10.. More like a 7/10.. Maybe 6..

You lose all pedal motion. Literally you can move the pedal about 3/4" if you kill it. I had to modify it and move the mounts back and add a longer spring internally to try and get some motion back. The thin membrane load cell it uses after about 6-8 months WILL start to screw up. I had to finally replace it. $40 shipped from the UK. So be ready to spend for up keep.

It works. But a DIY rig might benefit handy people more."

seems legit. I was concerned about the throw as well.

Since in most PC games you have to map the brake pedal anyways so I suggest reversing the wires for the PS3 (stand along) like you did in the video. If you wire the load cell for "standard PC" than the load cells will read backward on the PS3. On most PS3 games you can't map the brake pedal like PC games. When you map the brake on the PC it will read the brake pedal right no matter how it's wired.

Please note that if you are using G25/G27 pedal with the Microsoft Wireless wheel this mod won't work. For some reason X360 won't read the gas pedal at all unless I'm pressing the brake pedal. I've tried to find a way around this with no success.(before I bought a GT2)

By the way I've already had to replace my load cell in my CSP twice. So load cell will need to be replaced from wear and tear just like pots.

Something I'm interested in but its completely missing from this thread and the video review is a comparison between the braking in game like with iRacing with this AP Electrix G27 mod vs a Clubsport brake and CSR Elite Brake.

Shaun or Darin can you speak to this or maybe include this modded pedal if you ever do a pedal shootout down the line like when the Clubsport v2's are out.

For instance, if I had a G27, is this mod worth it vs paying $75 more and getting a CSR Elite pedal set.

Sorry for not replying sooner. That's a great question and we were going to do the pedal shootout, but things came up and we sidelined it.

If you like your G27 pedals, the AP load cell may be worth getting or one of the many other mods. Shaun ran with the ARC spring mod for a long time and had good success with it. I like the feel of modified G27 pedals. The only thing the Elite will have over the G pedals is the extra resolution and more adjustability. I like the Elites, so it's a toss up really.

Thanks for the reply. I hope to see a pedal shootout from you guys in the coming months if you can work it out. Especially if it includes the new Clubsport V2's.

I just received this morning my Ap Electrix load cell together with a Bodnar cable.

Installed everything roght away and calibrated the pedals inside iRacing.

First impression:no feel at all of what i am doing. As soon as I touch my pedal front wheel block right away.

But if I lose the pressure car doenst stop at all.

I am now trying to find the best way to calibrate the pedal. No idea if i need to press all the way down or just stop at the rubber block.

Really hope I get it to work.Tried a lap on Susuka but i wa sat leats 4 seconds slower then with normal break pedal.

Biggest problem for me is that I do not feel any pressure from the pedal it self. Only when I reach the rubber block, i know I need to press harder.

Will give it a try for much longer.see if I can get use to it.

The above post from Shawn has nothing to do with this thread and should be deleted.

Advertise somewhere else.

Since the post has been removed this no longer applies to the above post.

This post could also be removed.

This is a great website and online shows. I hate to see users trying to use it for their own gain.

I received my AP Electrix Load Cell Mod in the mail a couple of weeks ago. I've only been playing one title for the past few months and that's GT5. The mod has completely changed the game for me. I can hit my braking points with more accuracy now and my lap-times are improving. Probably the best SIM money I've spent in ages. The only problem I'm having comes down to (I'm guessing) GT5. Since the game doesn't have a calibration option like most SIMS, I'm at the mercy of the software to make sure I'm set up properly. I believe GT5 calibrates the brake pedal when you first use it in the game. If I'm correct, I believe it continues to calibrate itself as you apply more pressure to the pedal. I always reach a point where what I started with as 100% now only registers 80% - 90%. At this point I have to reboot the game to get my 100% back. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any input would be appreciated ... no pun intended. :)

At the start of each race during free run, try pressing the brake all the way. I believe that it calibrates the brake by how far you push it each race.

Had an absolute nightmare with this mod.Broke the connecters on the cable that connects to the mod.

Decided to use the clutch pedal for the brake so moved the connectors to that pedal but now ,withthew Leo Bonar cable ,the gas when pressed fully, wavers up and down so the car runs on one less cylinder lol.

I tried to have another look and found out I've sheared the hex bolt and can't undo the bottom one holding the brake pedal plate which sits on the AP modded pedal.

I bought 40 bux worth of tools for this mod.

Now I have no pedals at all.

They were working 100 percent fine before.

Now they are broken.

I can't afford new pedals either.

Great New Year this has been lol.

Cost me 213 all up for this mod.

That's 90 (ap Mod) + 50 (Leo Bodnar cable) + 73 bucks tools and taxi fair to get there and back = 213 dollars

From a perfectly working pedal set to now not working.

I think I wanna throw myself from the nearest bridge.

Using a gamepad until I can think of a way to get the AP mod out of the case lol.

Gas pedal started to spike after using the Leo Bodnar cable as well.

Will play the waiting game for now.

Either spend 50 to get someone to fix the rounded hex screw and buy another set of g27 pedals or just get the Fanatec Elite pedals when they are out in Australia in the year 2799 hehe.

P.S. DON'T LETY THIS DETER OU FROM GETTING THIS MOD.I'm just hopeless with my hands unless I'm drumming (been drumming for 40 years since 7 years old).

I too am curious how this mod differs in feel when compared with the Nixim mod. I'm pretty new to sim racing but catching on quickly and would like a more realistic brake. I currently run stock g27 pedals. The perfect pedal is too expensive for a mod IMO. I will buy clubsport pedals before that mod. The ARC is pretty much the same thing. So I'm debating between Nixim and AP load cell. Can someone who has experienced both offer me their thoughts please? :-)
