Maynard Makes It Two In A Row at the Texas Two Step

Posted by Andy Banfield

Nicholas Maynard won his second SCCA American Truck Series race in a row as the Series went to Texas Motor Speedway for a very interesting race format. The event featured 2 separate race events that saw the field inverted for the start of the 2nd race. It seems that “heat” racing is making a comeback not only in series like IndyCar but also in iRacing!

Cody Burke was the winner of the first heat race after starting 2nd. He beat Lee Queen and Maynard to the stripe to get that first win. Of course that would mean he would start from the back for the main event, but it turns out it would not be all the way in the back. Some of us, including yours truly, took a “smart” option and started from the back anyway. The Silverado is clearly a vehicle that is learned over an extended period of time. But it sure is fun to drive.

We were lucky to be joined by Darin Gangi and Shaun Cole from Inside Sim Racing TV.com for the event. They have been integrally involved with the March on Michigan event at the end of this month. Should be a great event with lots of prizes.

In the final race Maynard fought his way to the front after some early incidents to take the win with Cody Burke and Miles Crabbe filling out the podium.

Next week the ATS Series heads to the Irish Hills of Michigan in what could be a preview of the Top Split in the March on Michigan.
