NAGP 4 Report post Posted April 23, 2018 The North American Grand Prix Monday night open wheel series heads to Japan this evening for the final round of the season 33 championship at Fuji '68. Kevin Lechmanski took home his first win of the season last week after a dominating performance at Bridgehampton. Lechmanski kicked the night off by by out-qualifying Philippe Simard by just over a tenth of a second on his way to his first pole position of the season. The race saw Lechmanski quickly jump out to the early lead and lap by lap the gap over his rivals continued to increase as they struggled to keep pace with Lechmanski at the incredibly difficult circuit. By the time Lechmanski dove into the pits on lap 27, his lead over second place was nearly 20 seconds. Lechmanski's second stint was flawless, setting fast lap of the race as he cruised home to take the checkered flag. John Houston finished the night in second 28 seconds behind the leader while Zack Hefner landed on the final step of the podium, 44 seconds behind first place. The win for Lechmanski moved his Squeaky Wheels team into the top five of the team championship for the first time this season. Kevin Kirkbride, who finished fifth, has clinched the drivers championship in open wheel for his first NAGP drivers championship. Kirkbride's 186 points was enough to clinch the title with one race remaining. Zack Hefner will try to close out the season in second place as he and third place driver Ian Jolicoeur have 18 points separating the two 150 to 132. Podium Hunters Kevin Kirkbride and Zack Hefner have clinched the team championship after last weeks race marking the first time Podium Hunters have won a team championship in open wheel. A string of DNF's, topped off by a non points finish last week for The French Connections Philippe Simard and Ian Jolicoeur took the team out of contention. The French Connection will have their work cut out for them this evening as TBROKDAMBAMS hot second half of the season has them just 15 points behind second place 255 to 240.
