NAGP 4 Report post Posted April 9, 2018 The North American Grand Prix Monday night open wheel series travels to upstate New York for round ten at the all new Lilski created Watkins Glen International. It was all Ian Jolicoeur last week at Monza '66 as the Canadian dominated round nine beginning in qualifying by snatching up his first pole position of the season by nearly three tenths over second place qualifier Zack Hefner with a lap time of 1:27.405. Jolicoeur followed up his impressive qualifying performance by jumping out to the early lead of the race and never looking back. Jolicoeur finished the night leading 29 of the scheduled 35 laps scoring maximum points for the round. Equally as impressive as Jolicoeur's drive was, so was that of the Squeaky Wheels tandem of Kevin Lechmanski and Jake Feimster. Both finished with their best results of the season with Lechmanski finishing comfortably in second 11 seconds behind Jolicoeur and Feimster, picking up a couple positions after a late push in the closing laps, scored his first podium of the season. Fantastic drives by all three on the podium. After nine rounds, Kevin Kirkbride has jumped out to a commanding lead in the drivers championship with 152 points. Two straight non-points finishes has kept Philippe Simard from closing the points deficit as he is now tied for second with his teammate Ian Jolicoeur with 116 points. Zack Hefner is third with 114 points. In the team championship, Podium Hunters Kevin Kirkbride and Zack Hefner remain your leaders with 266 points. The French Connections Philippe Simard and Ian Jolicoeur are 29 points behind with 237 points. Captain Clutch Racing's Matt Taylor and Marc DeGras have moved into third with 174 points. Be sure to check out NAGPTV this evening at 9pm eastern for complete coverage of round ten at Watkins Glen. We begin the broadcast with 25 minutes of open qualifying followed immediately after by the 200km race. It's now or never for some of the drivers to make a push towards the drivers and team championships as we enter the final three races of the season. Championship leader Kevin Kirkbride remains the only driver to complete every lap this season. With that kind of consistency, it's beginning to look like it will be Kirkbrides championship to lose. However, this is racing, and anything is possible. Don't miss a second of the racing coverage on Monday and Thursday nights here at NAGP! Follow us on Twitch and get notified when we go live!
