The North American Grand Prix Monday night open wheel series travels to Italy this evening for round nine of the championship at the historic 1966 layout of Monza.

Matt Taylor took his first win of the season last week at Mosport finishing ahead of pole setter Chris Moses to move into fourth in the championship standings. Taylor managed to get past Chris Moses on lap eight and from there cruised to victory finishing seventeen seconds ahead of Moses. The win for Taylor was his first since round eleven at Monza last season. It was also the best start and result for Moses this season, finishing on the podium for the first time. Zack Hefner finished on the podium in third picking up some valuable championship points. It was a difficult night for the top two drivers in the standings as leader Kevin Kirkbride finished in eighth after getting tangled up with Ian Jolicoeur in the opening laps of the race. Second in the standings Philippe Simard did not help his chances after failing to finish for the third time this season.

After eight rounds, Kevin Kirkbride leads in the driver standings with 140 points. Philippe Simard is second with 116 points and Zack Hefner is third with 114 points.

Podium Hunters Kevin Kirkbride and Zack Hefner lead the team championship with 254 points. The French Connection's Philippe Simard and Ian Jolicoeur are second with 211 points. TBROKDAMBAM's Eiran Parsons and John Houston are third with 158 points.

Join NAGPTV this evening at 9pm eastern for complete coverage of round nine at Monza. The racing begins with 25 minutes of open qualifying followed immediately after by the 200km race.

The high speed Monza Circuit is a favorite among the drivers lending itself to some close racing and exciting overtaking opportunities. This one should be a barn burner!
