NAGP 4 Report post Posted March 29, 2018 The North American Grand Prix Thursday night GT series makes its first of two stops in the United States this evening beginning with round eight at Watkins Glen in New York. Peter Szabo came home victorious for the first time in season XXXIII after last weeks race at Circuit Gilles Villenueve in Montreal. Szabo's McLaren, along with his teammate Salem Montgomery Jr., from flag to flag were in full control of the race as the two qualified on the front row and ran first and second for all but one of the 46 lap event. Brad Merys in the Lamborghini attempted a push late in the race in an attempt to split the McLarens who were leading, however, Merys ran out of laps and was unable to gain another position, so he thought. In the post race analysis, it was determined by the stewards that Montgomery Jr. had exceeded the track limits enough times to warrant a one lap penalty in the final results. The penalty moved Merys into second and Zack Hefner into third in the final standings. The win for Szabo, his first since round eight of season XXXII, inched him closer to leader Kevin Kirkbride in the driver standings setting the table for a tense final five rounds of the championship. After seven rounds, Kevin Kirkbride leads in the driver championship with 122 points. Peter Szabo in second with 109 points followed by Zack Hefner in third with 108 points. The penalty to Salem Montgomery Jr. last week at Montreal allowed Podium Hunters Kevin Kirkbride and Zack Hefner to extend their lead in the team championship. Podium Hunters 230 points leads overall by 43 points over RPM Extreme's Peter Szabo and Salem Montgomery Jr. Gotta Go Bye's Brad Merys and Al Marimon have moved into third after last week with 139 points.
