With the driver and team championships beginning to tighten up, the North American Grand Prix Monday night open wheel series has arrived in Canada for round eight of the championship this evening at the thrilling Mosport Circuit.

Ian Jolicoeur made his way to victory lane for the first time this season after an impressive drive last week at the Nordschleife. Jolicoeur, who clocked in with the fourth quickest time in qualifying, sliced his way through the top three qualifiers in the opening laps which included some brave overtaking maneuvers as well as some savvy driving by those being passed. By lap five, Jolicoeur found himself around pole setter Marc DeGras and in the lead. Once the drivers completed their stops, Jolicoeur withstood pressure from a determined Kevin Kirkbride in the closing laps. Jolicoeur hung on to take the win just eight tenths ahead Kirkbride in second. Philippe Simard finished on the final step of the podium after getting past Zack Hefner who suffered an engine failure late in the race. Overall, thirteen drivers finished on the lead lap, an impressive showing at a difficult track and in an even more difficult to wrangle '67 Ferrari 312.

After seven rounds, Kevin Kirkbride remains our points leader with 131 points. Philippe Simard moves into second place with 116 points with Zack Hefner dropping to third with 96 points.

In the team championship, Podium Hunters Kevin Kirkbride and Zack Hefner saw their lead shrink a bit after last weeks results. Podium Hunters remain out front with 227 points. The French Connection's Philippe Simard and Ian Jolicoeur close to within 18 points of the leader after finishing first and third last week. TBROKDAMBAM's Eiran Parsons and John Houston are third with 132 points.

You can catch tonight's race at Mosport live at 9pm eastern on NAGPTV. The racing begins with 25 minutes of open qualifying followed immediately after by the 200km race.

With walls close to the track, the fast sweeping corners of Mosport leave little room for error. The drivers will once again need to be well prepared to tackle this important eighth round of the championship.
