T150 PRO being recognised as a generic 'Thrustmaster FFB Wheel' - does not work at all

Hello,

I bought the T150 PRO FFB, and had it working on my PC. The first time opening and setting everything up was fine, the drivers installed correctly with the wheel connecting and calibrating fine. After the restart to finish the driver install, everything was in order. The control panel showed the wheel separate from the other devices and specifically as a T150, and the device manager also showed the wheel as a T150. The firmware was fine, showing a different settings panel from the normal windows game controller settings. I opened up Automobilista and the wheel and FFB were all perfectly fine, with all the buttons working. However after trying rFactor for a while and then going back to Automobilista, the FFB wasn't there anymore. I opened up the firmare and tried the effects and they were all working fine, so i assumed that it was the game. Again though when I checked the firmware, i noticed that whilst the wheel and t3pa pedals were working, the buttons were off. All the buttons except for buttons 11 and 12 were illuminated, meaning they were on, whilst I was unable to get buttons 11 and 12 to illuminate in the firmware. I exited my race session in game and went to the control mapping, and it would not let me change anything, as it showed that button 13 was being continually pressed.

My first course of action was to reinstall the drivers, which I did and restarted the PC without checking the wheel other than taking the USB out and back in as the installation instructed. It still calibrated properly so I didn't assume otherwise. After the restart, I went to the control panel to check for the wheel. However, it was displayed as 'Thrustmaster FFB wheel' with a generic gamepad icon rather than the T150. I could not find the T150 firmware when clicking on properties, rather it only showed the normal game controller settings. I then tried turning the wheel, where it became very resistant and automatically returned to centre after I let go. I'm quite frustrated by this, having already done multiple driver reinstalls.

It seems as if the driver install detected just a g eneric Thrustmaster FFB wheel due to the issue, and therefore didn't install the specific firmware or drivers for my T150, so I tried the Bootloader method, which detected the T150 Bulk drivers fine, and it allowed me to choose to install them. However, during the installation, after auto-calibrating, the same generic Thrustmaster FFB game controller showed up on control panel and device manager.

I've already contacted Thrustmaster Support via email, but it has been 4 days so I'm trying my luck with this forum. I'm aware of another post about a generic Thrustmaster FFB wheel issue on these forums, but the solution was just simply trying another USB port.

Please help, I really do want my wheel working again! Could it also be a physical issue, perhaps with the wires or even a faulty wheel? It was working at one point, and things such as auto-calibration and connecting to PC are working, so I assume not but I'm really desperate to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks!

Hi!

Yep, definitely checked - hasn't been on PS4 since the unboxing I believe.

I told this, because ohter Tm wheels like T300 - react like generic controler on PC if they are on PS4 mode left.

Yeah, I just tried connecting as PS4 and as PS3 - both show up as 'Thrustmaster FFB Wheel'

Yes, if everything is correct mus show T150 FFB Racing Wheel - something like this.

Yeah, the first time setting it up, the wheel showed up correctly, as a T150 and allowed me to use the specialised firmware to edit the steering lock and FFB settings. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers numerous times, though I don't know what I should try to change in this reinstall

Can you try this steps:

Unplug the wheel from USB

Unistall drivers

Restart windows

Start drivers instalation and in some moment instalation ask to connect TM products - so do it in that moment.

Lets see now what will be the reulst?!?!?!

I'll try, cheers!

Also, when connect in stalation please use different USB port if you have!

Nope, didn't work I'm afraid. Wheel's still heavy and it's still showing up as 'Thrustmaster FFB Wheel'. Perhaps it might be the USB remembering that I've plugged the same device in before, or the PC remembering that the device is 'Thrustmaster FFB Wheel' because that was what it was the last time it showed up.

There's probably a way to get round this and other methods may work, as if it was a fresh install

What happens if the wheel is plugged in the usb and you switch to PS4 and back to PS3 mode? Any reaction?

Nothing, the icon remains Thrustmaster FFB Wheel, the wheel is still resistant unfortunately

It is quite possible the wheel to be stuck in PS4 mode, I mean the switch to do not work anymore. I believe you dont have PS4 console to check?

Unfortunately not, but that does sound very plausible. I don't remember switching to PS4 as it happened out of nowhere. Perhaps there is a way to check it.

Also I have another laptop that I could try it with but not for a day or two, but for now I'm just looking for a solution on my own laptop.

Do you tried firmware update?

Hi,

Yeah, basically I've tried using the firmware updater as normal, which gives me an error as shown in the screenshots. This is probably because of how the wheel isn't recognised as a Thrustmaster FFB wheel or something.

So, I then looked up the Thrustmaster website and it gave me a bootloader method, to 'wake up' the wheel if it doesn't get recognised. http://ts.thrustmaster.com/download/accessories/manuals/t150/t150_bootloader_method.pdf

I follow the instructions and the boot drive of the T150 shows up correctly

2.png.864b12b7d35d9efb400b59275ef794b3.png

When I open the firmware update to run it, it shows up as the T150 device. 6.png.3e7b2415c2c7b4f35c740254f8f9979e.png

After proceeding, the updater begins to install the files. Halfway through, the auto-calibration begins and the updater finishes. However, after the calibration is finished, the device is registered as the generic icon again, with the wheel becoming resistant. I suspect this is perhaps because the bootloader method may be for when no device at all is detected on PC, which is why it did not work. Hope not though! 5.png.f65d6e42fe2233f6c76206009c8d1e5f.png

Happy New Year!!!

Sometimes things just messed up! I am pretty sure the support will help you. I believe is only software mess...ofcourse there is slight chance something inside to be bugged, but I think you will have your wheel working without repair. Ofcourse the bad thing is that you cant use it now... It will be great to check it as you said on another laptop!

Just my two cents, PC tend to have some form of memory where it "caches" (google usb cache file, it is abit nerdy/techy) information that is plugged in to a USB port. Ive had something similar happen with my t500RS and i had to use a different USB port to have a new set of "cache" which then worked fine.

Easier way to remove all of those stored caches is to uninstal USB controller from Device Menager, and restart the PC. All current USB devices will be added like for the first time.:)

Thanks, you too! Thrustmaster finally replied and also suggested first of all that I try a different PC, so I'll get going with that first of all.
