Forza 3 Demo

20 posts in this topic

Just curious how people are doing that are playing the Forza 3 demo?

I am doing well, but also struggling at the same time.

Using the Lizard racing Porshe on expert settings, the best time I have been able to produce so far is a 1:02:230. This time places me in the top 7% of the people playing the demo right now, but that's not good enough. Any tips on improving that? How are other people doing? No matter what I do, I just can't seem to break that mark right now, yet top time on XBL right now is a 57:870 I believe. that is a full 4.5 seconds faster than me. What in the world are people doing to reel in sub 1 minute runs?

Yeah, the Forza 3 demo is good fun.

I'd definately recommend that you hotlap rather than race in the 2 lap AI derbys.

On one of the pre race screens you have the option of pressing 'Y' to access the leaderboards. In this screen you can download around 100 of the top replay ghosts, or indeed toggle to see your friends times. It is in this leaderboard screen that you have the option of pressing 'A' to be able to do unlimited hotlaps.

From memory my best time on my account is a 1'00.014, and a 59.6xx on a mates machine. Next time i'm online i'll write down my other times for the Mini, Audi, Ferrari, and Evo and post em up here. Nothing special, but the best i could muster.

btw - when hotlapping its good to drive the reverse track for a bit of fun. You dont get any times or anything, but the track is really different in the reverse and looks great. Good practice for when the full version of Forza3 comes out too.

I was able to get 59.980 in the Porsche but that was over a week ago and I haven't touched it since. I didn't want to burn myself out on the demo before the actual game came out. That time only put me at about 2300 in the porsche, I am sure that has dropped significantly now.

I can't wait to get my Fanatec wheel, I decided to go for the speedy shipping direct from the factory. Now I just have to hope the clubsport pedals and wheelstand both make it here by Forza 3 as well.

I am about to give up. I just am not sure what else to do. Granted I am not using any assists (except for automatic transmission, because I hate having to sequential shift with the controller) and I do not have a wheel yet (come on Fanatec), but best I can do is a 1:01:031. I downloaded different ghosts to race against and mostly they keep beating me in the middle of turn 1) right after the start/finish line and getting in to the final turn.

Well one trick on that first turn is to constantly rewind past the finish line into your last lap to get another go at it. When you cross the finish line it starts a fresh lap so you can do it over and over again and still get your time counted. But its a great way to learn all of the turns as well. I also use no assists (though I was using manual and that probably puts me at a bit of an advantage) and I think you just have to try different things. I shaved tenths off of my time here and there by staying in gear or shifting down an extra gear going through a turn when I didn't think I needed to. All in all though 1:01 is pretty good. I was only able to get a sub-minute time twice and one of those times it was a disqualified lap (though honestly I don't know what disqualified it..was very frustrating).

look in this thread at fm.net

http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forum ... 91354.aspx

It helped me fix my racing line and shaved 7 tenths off my time on the California. But running automatic is at least a 1 second disadvantage, i doubt 58 secs is possible with auto, maybe 59, i use automatic also and on the ferrari i went through the Lbs to find the best automatic time and it was 1.5 secs off the pace and 800 or so, i am assuming its similar on the porsche though i havnt actually checked.

edit:

i looked it up the best automatic time is 59.197 and is ranked 655th

Im also using no assists, Manual (NO clutch) and braking line only. I cant seem to break the minute barrier. 1.01.xx is my best, cant seem to shave any more time, unless I am changing to early or to late.

I am practising on the drift score, in the top 3000, coming in at around 12 to 13000, but again, cant seem to break that. I will either start off well and mess up the last corner or vise versa. I will get there though, I WILL :D

I think it was said earlier, but a majority of hardcore FM2 races were able to do just as fantastic on the FM3 demo. I really want to set a good lap with the wheel, but I am not feeling much Force Feedback or vibration, I feel alienated from the tarmac.

I see people saying they do hotlaps with no cars HOW ?

At the track select screen choose "Y" for the leaderboards. From there, hit "A" to start a race. If you want to race a leaderboard ghost, select a name from the top 100 (or anyone with that paperclip like icon) and choose "race this ghost" from the menu. Starting from the leaderboard allows you to drive as many laps as you want alone. Hope this explanation makes sense.

I just got a MS Wheel and am trying to ease my way into using it. I have all the assist off and have be racing with the AI on hard. Win or lose it's still a blast, and hey I'm still learning my main focus is on clean racing.

PBear,

Believe me, using the wheel (w/ FF on) and the manual transmission will gain you some time. When Turn 10 and Nissan had that Forza 2 Sentra SE-R tournament last year, I bought the MS wheel. I was already using the manual transmission, and the wheel cut another .75 off my time. Plugging in the wheel for FF took almost another full second off my time.

Long story short, I qualified 128th out of 256 for the tournament. Don't ask how my 1st round went, lol. Although it's more Sim than arcade racer, the game definitely rewards you for not using any assists. By design, the auto tranny does not shift as efficiently as is needed.
