Do you think I should sell this game? I think I am spoiled by racing with the wheel. I played several races with the controller and the whole time I kept think this would be so good with a wheel. I can't really afford to get a Fanatec and I don't want 2 wheels in the front room so i think i am going to have to sell this one off.

I guess I could always re-purchase it when I get a compatible wheel.

I wouldn't necessarily sell it, because you'll just lose money in the long run (assuming you care) but rather just shelve it for a while until you do get another wheel. Of course, if you feel it highly unlikely you will ever do so, then you may want to just part with it. Guess it's an issue of weather you really think you'd get back into the game later or not.

Nice video there rtschutter =) Seems you are using a 'slightly' more upgraded version of what i'm driving. I'm using a 5 euro Ikea table to mount my microsoft wheel on while watching a 40" tv. (oh, and my yoga mat to keep the table and pedals from moving around =))

Do you by any change also own the microsoft wheel? Kinda curious how they compare.

just a random question. how come it seems like all the drifting vids with the cockpit view, never seem to steer more than 200 degree. I would think that with big angles, you often need hand over hand counter steer.

I'm curious about pit stops??

I accidentally pitted in this game (reality... I screwed up and was wreaking and going into pit row saved me.) But, I noticed that no options popped up asking if I wanted make any adjustments; take no gas or a 1 can; Or just take right or left side tires. Just wondering from those hard core Forza Racers if there is button that need to press to bring up these options or do you just not get any pit stop options?

As far as i know, no options. And i've played for many hours now.

Something else what's weird is that your pitcrew can swap an entire gearbox, suspension, etc in seconds. But they fail to wack on a new front/rear wing.

I really like Forza and think it's a great game. But i feel some things were included to just put them on the back of the box. Dragracing, ovals and endurance racing are not really fleshed out. The focus is 99% on doing 6 lap races with no tyre wear and no damage. (slight rant: It's amazing how many people put time and effort into learning how to knock someone sideways without crashing themselves. I'm driving a AWD skyline online because it drives like it is glued to the road and not that prone to the tricks these people pull).

Forza 3 supports 900 degrees of rotation, it's just that the animation in cockpit view doesn't show that.

they should have 900 degree steering in cockpit views though. I can understand for things like F1 cars, but most normal stock cars steer more than 200 degree

I usually don't notice the missing animations since I'm focused on the road

while driving so I think it's less important.

And there was info that Turn 10 didn't have time to do everything they wanted before the release date.

Woohoo, received my Turbo S this week, so much fun and feels excellent with Forza 3

recorded my first lap with the shifter/clutch and 900 degree mode, its a bit sloppy, but you get the idea

alot better then the microsoft wheel with my G25 pedals :)

One of the quirks of FM3 is that the view in cockpit mode is way too close. In many (most?) cars you cannot use your mirrors. I was using the hoodcam due to this until I startted playing rFactor (So at least I had the rear-view). I became used to the cockpit view and now I am using it in Forza as well.

There is the FOV trick and I have been meaning to try it out.

Yep. I switched it on and moved it up testing different cars. I settled on 83 for the Ford GT and I can actually use the left hand mirror. At the default setting I cannot even see the end of the car much less the mirror. It (IMHO) vastly improves the experience.

FOV trick??? In Forza 3 or R-factor? Currently in r-factor I have my FOV set at 66. This helps me see the point of Apex better. I"ll try it at 83 tomorrow though. I normally race with hood view, and stay very clean. But, I want move towards the cockpit view in future, but I won't sacrific the clean yet aggressive driving style. If anyone else can add to this FOV discussion it would be appreciated. I'm curious what some of the best are using.

well after some hesitation and driven by sale in local Best Buy I breakdown and bought myself required set for Forza. that included xbox itself, MS wireless wheel and the game and $60 worth of cables to connect to my tv and receiver. To tell you a truth, the first impression was disappointment. Starting with xbox, I found the navigation quite a bit confusing compare to PS3. The wheel! Oh gosh! Who ever designed this thing! I have 2 identical printer tables that I bought long time ago in Target. One I use for my Logitech DFGT other one I am hoping to use the new MS Wheel, although I have to admit that having 2 setups even in my situation where I have quite large room in the basement designated solely for gaming looks quite crowded. But back to the wheel, for a life of me I cannot get this thing to stay in one place! That plastic clamp just does not hold it. My DFGT stays put without any special add ones. All I had to do is tide it up with the extra forth of the ranch and this thing like glued to the table. Not a case with MS wheel. That thingy you need to screw under the table just does not hold it. I am thinking to get some kind of adapter and just screw it in to the surface of the table. I do have an ideas how to keep pedals in place. I hope it will work. Any way, this is software forum so back to that. My son and I started a game and we went to split screen (this is nice!) to do some races. My sone beat me big time with just a controller! Then I started a career mode and end up in one of those tiny cars on one of those starter tracks. Whole thing looked a bit cartoonish to me after just racing on a wide high speed tracks in NFS Shift. I am like wait, this is it? This is what I just blow away $400 bucks for? Got to be something to it. I want high speed tracks and over powered cars! Well I know they are there but to get to that point one needs to go through all those stages in a career mode. Funny thing I did felt a difference between Forza and those more arcadish titles like NFS Shift or Grid. There is less sense of speed in Forza then those other 2 titles and yet forza demands much more precise cornering. I mean the way I can just fly through the corners in NFS would not work in Forza. On other hand, stepping on grass is more forgiving in Forza then in GT5 demo. In GT5 your wheel gets just a bit out of the track and you doomed! Well I was able to pass those funky AI cars riding on a grass it did not even slowed down me:):) For a few days I was like, why did I do this. I want to be excited about this game I want to have those mind blowing races and what I see is this? Who knows maybe I am more arcade type player then sim. Last night at 2 am I went downstairs to give it another shot. Instead of career I choose free play and choose Ferrari FXX and Nurenburg 12 mile track. Boy did I have fun with that! It took me a bit less then 8 minutes to go through entire lap and I traded quite a bit of paint with trees and barricades. I think the track done quite well (better then in NFS) and FXX was fun! Although wheel and pedals that were bouncing everywhere were not. I am looking forward to make some progress. I hope to start liking this game like you guys do, and I hope eventually see you guys on tracks. My MS live id is MidnightRider63 of anyone cares to hook up.

Genady.. I can see where you are bummed with it.. Shaun and I instantly did multiplayer stuff against each other and had a blast.. Matter of fact.. For multiplayer.. I came up with an idea last night for a little friendly competition for us here at Inside Sim Racing..

I think we're going to have a fun run one night.. I'll do sign ups and everything so we can have an organized race, or races..

I think I may do a setup where everyone has to come with a car no higher than level C.. The track will be set in advance for us to practice and we'll see who can build the best car in C class and win the race.. OPen to suggestions.. But.. I think you're on track now.. Forza is more a sim that you have to learn the cars and or tracsk to be fast .. Also.... Who wants to sim race a 100 hp front drive honda that 99% can drive??

I want something that can get scary :-) Not something that you have to wind the piss out of to get going..

Interesting post, I will comment on a few things.

Controller VS Wheel: The designer of the GT series uses a controller! MANY top lap holders in GT/Forza are gamepad users. Gamepads are less "Sim" but are at least as effective in racing games as wheels it seems. (Popular in rFactor as well)

The clamp... I used a 2" block of wood with the clamp. I was then able to tighten it down. I can certainly see someone being disapointed after having a DFGT which clamps down like a vise.

XBox dashboard. The 360 has a MASSIVE amount of features that the XMB does not. And its designed to all be readily accessible. It is certainly daunting for someone coming from PS3 but it is very intuitive. Up/Down for categories and right/left within the category.

Career mode: This is designed to get you used to racing. The tracks and the physics need to be learned and the career takes you from the low power cars you cannot make a mistake in through the mid range cars that you have to learnt o drive all the way to the high power cars that really require you to KNOW the tracks to stay on them and compete. The GT series has a license system thats implemented differently but serves the same purpose.

You can of course choose Event List and have a semblance of a "career mode" yet race with faster cars more quickly.

Hopefully you will enjoy it as you certainly made a significant investment.
