Dirt 4 longevity and future of the league

18 posts in this topic

Hi Mates,

I recently posted this thread on Codemaster forum to hope they will do something with dirt 4 that in my opinion need some review from  the developers because it miss some crucial ingredient to be a good title.

If  agree with me please share your toughs

As it is right now i will not be interested in managing the future ISRTV Dirt 4 league.

I don't think Codemasters will makes any changes the to physics, Dirt Rally was very challenging for the mass consumer gamer market so made things easier in Dirt 4. If it sells more copies off the back of dumbing down the difficulty it's a win for Codemasters regardless of the rest of us looking for more realism.

We are totally in same page Jeremy but since there are  2 modes (casual/Simulator)  they could cranck it up and give us (the hardcore guys) some more challenge.

I don't believe they will be able modify  my stage to give more character and make each stages unique (as they promise) and we will continue to be bored  with predictable bents and very easy hairpin.

My hope are now for Dirt Rally 2 or possibly some DLC to Dirt Rally or open the the  door  to modders.

Dirt Rally leaderboard are corrupted anyway so Modding could be the best option but all my hope i know are very Utopistic

I'd consider Dirt 4 as Codemasters masterplan successor to Dirt Rally, so I honestly don't think we'll see a Dirt Rally 2, and Dirt Rally is done with as far as Codemasters are concerned, it's an old game with no more money to extract. If anything the best hope is Dirt 5 with reinstated Dirt Rally physics on the hardcore sim mode.

As for Dirt 4, I'm sure they'll release some DLC as they did with previous Dirt games. More tracks, cars, even selling VR as DLC is possible. DLC physics upgrade maybe a bit a kick in the teeth though, so not so sure even the most jerky publisher would try that on.

Think i might have to give RBR a try at some point ,,i can't see me buying dirt4 at the moment with the overall feedback from dirt rally fans saying its bland and boring,,,

Oh well ,,,i'll just after hope Pcars2 delivers ,,,

Steve, please save your pennies because at the moment the game is not good enough for our standard.

For RBR if you wish you can pm me and i will give you all the info to set it up since modding is pretty wide you can get lost and i did already the exercise..

Apparently Pcar2 is going to be a good one and John was enthusiast about the physics

Soon we will find out!

Hey Turbo Turtle, I read your post over on the Codies forums and replied early on (IIRC). I also made another post in the Ultimate Thread I don't know if you seen (huge thread). I wanna post it here just in case. I guess you could say that I'm optimistic and hopeful for D4. I'm just not a road racing guy. I've always been dirt oriented whether it was dirt bikes, bicycles, 4WD etc. Dirt motorsports is where it's at for me. So when DR came out I was in heaven.

I can see areas where D4 has improved and areas that still need work but overall I'm still in. As for the future, I think they had to release before they wanted to and now will have to play catch up. Watch this 4 minute segment where Paul talks mainly about the physics. I think this was release day or shortly afterwards. I don't think there were many complaints about My Stage at that point.

Oh and one last point. I agree with your views on My Stage and I also understand what they were shooting for with it. I'm hoping that they will add more detail to it in the near future. I'd love to see the handmade DR maps added to the career along side of My Stage. But from what I understand that was not possible due to licensing issues with the FIA.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since this is the "Ultimate Thread" I'll repost here.

I'm not sure if you have seen it but grip levels and game physics were addressed by Paul Coleman in The Dirt Show interview.

To me he said alot so watch it for yourself. Here are a few excerpts that I pulled that stand out to me. Again watch the interview for full context.

"We got Petter Solberg and his son in and they were able to spend alot of time playing Rallycross. I think we got very very good feedback from them and got very close to what the Rallycross drivers wanted as a group for their cars to feel like. And so were really really positive and confident that Rallycross is exactly where it needs to be."

"For Rally we didn't have as much time with Chris Meek and we only really got to focus in on the modern cars. Because that's what he has the most experience in driving."

"By now simulating stuff properly we've found that the cars are more consistent and probably have, I guess what people are perceiving to be more grip. It's not actually grip. They're feeling like it has more of that stability that's kinda holding it to the road and not letting it break traction as freely as it did in Rally. And as a result we do need to sit down and we do need to look at ways that we can improve that. How those improvements get brought into the game or if they get brought into the game, we don't know at this stage because it's such a fundamental thing to the entire experience. And it really is like a big thing to be switching up."

"But the key thing is they need to be validated by drivers who have experience driving these cars. And ultimately we need to find a driver or a number of drivers who have the real world experience and we need to get that time to sit down and dial this in. Because it's not just something we can change based on many many opinions that comes through. This needs to be done as you would engineer a test session with a car."

@Narzugon Thank you to take the time to reply and honestly after  reading your lines and watching the video i feel much better

Currently I am having a blast with Buggies and RX  that really shines at this point of the game, the career seems to be a bit short  but i am sure they will add some challenges for us

I am sure CM will not let us down on the rally part of the game it is a just a matter of time

Oh RX all the way! I've been hooked on RX for many years now. I think they nailed RX in D4. I'm hoping since it's "The Official RX game of the FIA" that they will invest more time into it such as more tracks.

Cheers!

I do like the RallyX in Dirt4 but, am not happy with the Rally car handling and am not likely to play Rally as it is now. I do think the overall physics are better but, there are some things that just don't feel right in regard to some of the car behavior and possible grip issues. The cars feel a bit too constrained and unnatural.

Hopefully, CM will improve that aspect of the title and build on the overall title features for the future.

The funny thing is that in about 20 hours of playing career mode i have done so far 60% of rally - 100% RX  - 100% Land Rush - 40%  Historic Rally. and 50% of the achievements

Something is very wrong in this picture, considering that most of my Steam friends are normally faster than me in every discipline. so i believe tough AI are not that tough..

I am obliged now to continue and complete  Rally to be able to play the Triple Crown but i am not too keen to do that hoping for handling updates.

Well i will give it joyride and go but i use to hate Gymkana in dirt3.. my feeling is that is going to be a pain

Correct me of I'm wrong, most of you guys are road guys correct? I mean most serious sims take place on tarmac? Aside from, was it iRacing that recently added dirt track ovals? So what are you guys basing the car handling on? Dirt Rally? RBR? What dirt based game am I missing?

Instead of waiting for fixes/updates I wanted to get a feel for everything.  I blasted through all disciplines with the exception of the Classics. I'm still at something like 16%. Once things are fixed I'll go back and take my time. I will say that some cars don't handle well (in my uneducated opinion) while others handle great. I'm not one to say which ones are realistic and which are not since I don't have real world experience in these cars. But I really had a blast in some of the cars.

I think for me the inconsistences of the AI and the poor Pace calls bug me more than anything in Rally. I couldn't try to get serious stage times with some of the late Pace calls or sometimes wrong pace calls. No matter how far ahead you set the calls, some will come late for the speed you're doing. RX was the only discipline I played properly. I agree that on Tough the AI isn't that tough. On Brutal/Fearless they are a challenge.

An odd thing I noticed. Last week I unlocked Fearless and did the RX career with Brutal AI. It was a challenge. I was winning some and losing some which is fine. And keep in mind that I feel confident in my driving abilities especially at Lydden, Hell and Holjes. I have a ton of hours in these tracks spread across DR and D4. So I thought the level of AI competition was awesome. Lastnight I did another RX career with Brutal AI and got 1rst place in every heat, semi and main. It was almost as if they were on the Tough setting. I even checked the setting a couple of times. I enjoyed the big payout regardless. Something funky going on there.

For few years I played F1 games and many roadies titles but I had a blast with Dirt 2 with playstation  and that is the only title i manage to complete at 100% , Dirt 3 i did not enjoy more that that and RBR every time i tried I found it too hard. I tried WRC series and SLE but i find them very arcadish.  Recently i re-discover RBR and with the new NGP physics is slightly  more "drivable" and here is where i get my comparative terms.

Anyway 2 years ago Dirt Rally made the switch and I really do not think i will go back to circuit racing for a while.

I have to confirm that the AI in Dirt4 are very inconsistent and today a stage  on snow where i normally do rather well , without major mistake  i got 18th with 24 sec difference form the leader.

I guess is time for a break from the game

Exactly what I've been experiencing with the AI. And I agree on WRC and SLE (arcadish). I had a couple of the earlier Dirts but that was on the Xbox 360 and I didn't have a wheel and pedal then. So definitely not as enjoyable.

For what it's worth, I do online racing in RX (pays big XP bonuses) and believe it or not, it's better than I thought. I haven't had too many bad races with immature drivers. Or I'll do Landrush and RX career events to raise cash. I have my team setup as well as my facilities with a handful of purchased cars in the garage. So I'm set. Now I'm awaiting the patches!

I tried to do some  Rx or LandRush on line.. a desert!  I need cash to improve my facility and as usual with this career game i am always broken.

I will try again today but i have very limited patiente in waiting for the lobby to get populated

A quick tip to raise cash. Landrush Stadium trucks. Once you unlock it a career consists of 5 events with each having 2 races.  A 4 lap qualifier and a 6 lap main. On Tough AI and no assists the career pays around a half a mil after sponsor perks. You can do that career in about 45 minutes. Compared to an RX career that pays out around 700k but there are 5 events with 4 qualifiers, 2 semis and the main. A lot of time to finish a career. Way more fun though.

I honestly got so tired of the AI on tough (Stadium trucks) that I took a paycut and dropped them down one level so I could finish races consistently. I don't know if I suck that much with those trucks or the AI are superhuman racers. If I could get out in front without any incidents, I was ok. But the first half of lap was always a roll of the dice.  The good thing is it wasn't much of a pay cut. It was still over half a mil. Well worth not having the aggravation of the AI giving me flats or running me into a wall and leaving me behind.

I wouldn't be surprised if Codemasters are working on Dirt 5 right now !

Why ?

Cause they are only in it for the $$$

There is still only one Sim that deliver a true rally experience and that is RBR
