@B20PV - yeh, finding a good gated shifter isn't as easy. As I already mentioned to you, I think, FREX Hshift+ is the one that feels the best, to me at least, when i bought one 13 years ago or so, but it's been worn/destroyed since. If Mr.Tanaka improved upon that version since of course, I'd recommend that. Or a DIY venture could be the way to go, you aren't a stranger to that, right? Although 6-7 gated shifter would need some designing to do, still I sometimes see some in the peripherals subforum here
I'm pretty happy with fanatec's, but would also like a little more mechanical clunck/feel in its operation, like frex one has.

You guys are spring chickens compared to the old turtle! up to now I am the oldest with  56 in june..

Today daily was no shine, A really bad day at the office, Frapster retirement , the FFB on tarmac  back to mushi-mushi and my terrible drifting skill did not help in setting a competitive time. I hate that car and my name is not Ken Block!

Do you guys use different FFB depends of the terrain? i felt a huge difference between today and yesterday stage, never notice such a big difference with my G27. On top yesterday I tried the mini RX and the FFB was insane! I could really feel the transition between the tarmac and gravel and on the gravel the wheel was like a rattlesnake. I guess setting up different FFB is a must to do.

I didn't retire just yet :). Completed monaco run in the morning 1 min before it ended, but had a pretty miserable unprepared run with a  few -T-bonning the wall/needing to reverse etc situations, with 30+ seconds loss

All my runs are pretty much unprepared. If I'm lucky I might get to do 1 practice run or so. Been doing long hrs at work lately.

Monaco would have to be my most hated location. No matter how much I try I just don't enjoy it. At least this time I finished it and didn't end up in the trees

I actually love that particular stage, forward/backward direction. the icy twisty section is by far my favourite to have all that handbrake fun at :D
Escort however is a very tricky car to do it in non-icy sections at Monaco, strangely. Probably porkammers setup i used was  made for the icy/twisty sections mainly or it's the car that just feels slightly slow on the tarmac bits. I've lost control 2 or 3 times in the tarmac section and flew through the end of the  stage with ease

I believe  the amazing Vietnamese soup I had for dinner helped to achieve a sub 7 performance with only 15 sec from the master chief. I am so happy! A flawless run. I followed a precious tip, "Slow=Faster" that definitely worked and my time it is sitting now the WW top 20 range.

The silver medal it is in the pocket and i can finally say TGIF and sip a nice bourbon!

MG for me was fun and easy to drive, using a basic softer suspension set-up that helped specially  on the big jump.

The FFB was back on track and I really love my new wheel, the best 120$ cad ever spent!

Curious to see next week scenario, and honestly I like much better the daily that the weekly, short and intense.

Damn. For me it was "Slow=Slower" :(. I hate Sweden (in DR, not IRL)
To be frank, 3rd right H-pattern hand drive car in a row, the league admin should be slapped!
While I have nothing against these cars, i still find shifting with left hand, even if  using "crash" gear box, still a big disadvantage that affects my times. So last 2 were pretty bad runs, especially the damned Sweden, which I feel I should just ban completely :D, but I keep picking it up like a masochist!

Today's morning run, having woken up at 5:30am for F1, I decided to remove the clutch for this Evo and after getting used to not touching the pedal or even lifting on shifts, I can tell you, I felt like I did cheat :), but my excuse was these R4 cars should be able to handle clutchless operation. Just managed to pip TT for the 2nd, if no one else does any more runs.
I bet by using crash box, I saved anywhere between 5-10 seconds and a few close shaves I might have not caught otherwise.

A bit of a hit and miss the RX event was. Not sure I liked the full event format but applied to races vs AI :(
In fact, would have been awesome if it was like the official PvP events, instead of AI, which kinda tends to play a major luck factor in individual racers. Would have been much better if I set it to a lower difficulty level also, but that then would have become a hotlap race, still more representative than unrelated races of each human player vs random/mad AI.
Oh well, I've learned now, that we should probably properly stick to rallying only, I think.
Early provisional 1st place congratulations to B20PV!! nicely done mate. With setups not available (grrr) I really struggled in the final, having blasted through the rest of the heats.
In the final I had a few fairly minor bumps barges, but can't explain 6 seconds loss comparing to you other than your skills! well done

For sure a lot of luck involved, I don't really like RX, but it was a nice break for an hour or so.

I always get left behind on the starts, the AI are really good at their starts.

For this circuit it's important to get a good drive out of the two big turns, just like the rally classic Mini, when the front wheels are steering, you lose speed. Gotta get those front wheels pointing straight asap.

Now back to the serious stuff; Monaco and the Renault 5 are kicking my ass. I really struggle on the ice...

Cheers!

I like RX events, and normally I  beat th AI fairly easy at master level but with this mini was a different ball game:shock:

First of all I stupidly did some training on the wrong circuit (England) to upgrade the car. I never got to the final but the since the car was not fully upgraded so i was not too worried.

The FFB it is insane on those buggers, and at the end of the training I was sweating like a pig.

On the event, during the qualification I never got better than 3rd and I finished 5th in the semifinals.:-(

@B20PV It is not luck my friend, congrats and thank you for the tips.

Now my mission is  to beat those AI but I am afraid that i will kill my wheel base!

Thanks DYNT

@B20PV, I was trying consciously to transform my bad habit driving method of minis in particular, I clearly am lagging when in that car, all due to what has been discussed wrt traction/turning wheels. I just found it very tricky at that circuit, as they are long and tight those 2 crucial bends and i just ended up turning for as little as i could, w/o running off the track, but clearly still not enough. I'll need to spends some time one day with that car, trying to adapt the new (for me) technique. Congrats though - you clearly used it to your best advantage!

@TurboTurtle . I picked "very Hard" AI difficulty, as I always struggled with slow AI in the past. I even backed out of initial thought of using "unbeatable" AI level and went with "very hard" instead. They were a good challenge on default setup, at least one guy would normally finish ahead, unless I managed to unfairly bump him off :)

Thanks Guys,

I feel a bit like NR must have felt after the Shanghai F1, seeing my name so high up the leader board where it doesn't belong...:-D Anyway, a win's a win, and I'll take it thanks very much. :-D

Cheers,

J.J.

Well done everyone.

I didn't feel like running it yesterday, so as usual opened up the game just 9 minutes before the end of the event, so no prep at all, other than a quick setup tweak.
Was running very well for 4/5 of the stage but then did manage to out-brake myself into last ditch from the top of the hill and puncture for the remaining ~300m, sending me off into the trees again and having to reverse balah blah blah. Surprised i even made it under 6minutes, but any points are valuable :)

EDIT: and yes, I know my maths are crap, haha - so about 9.5/10 of the stage it all happened at
EDIT2: also apologies for picking this stage 2 weeks in a row. It's one of my favs, that's true, but I was meant to pick another long Germany stage, not ths one

Great run round in the s 4 was way more fun than i was expecting, i also managed not to use the hb as grb 4wd cars didn't have them.

Please keep feeding us with this valuable info! :)
I used it only once just to help me around bales hairpin, but could have just brought it around w/o it, if I knew that fact. I did know from the steam guide/expereince though, that HB isn't really needed in these cars

Had a few minutes spare tonight, so I thought I'd give the daily a try. I detest the Monaco stages, but gave it a go, concentrating on being smooth and accurate. Things were going ok, until I spun in the tunnel and had to make what felt like a 20 point turn to get going again.

Sigh.?

Cheers!

Sorry JJ. You probably  dislike Monaco as much as I dislike Sweden. The worst thing about that is that there's very little improvement for me, as I am trying to avoid any running there, so the rare times I do Sweden, I seriously suck.

I've had a decent run at Monaco. Today's wasn't teh best of them, but it felt incredibly satisfying, as I didn't stall even once, like I was stalling it at every hairpin in practice runs. Just took them a little slower/carefully in my main run. Not a perfect run by any means, had a few wide turns like in hairpin 1 etc, but lost maybe 3 seconds to those, overall very happy to be only 8 secs behind dynt

Used a suitable for that car rim - a very close match. This rim hasn't had much use since I bought it, but it';s becoming my favourite one, to use even with R4 and K2 cars, even though they had 3 spoke versions of it, but the fiat and I think Lancia S4 from yesterday had 2 spoke one

Wow!! I am so happy of the performance and be so close to the Sensei that maybe had a bad day. Today's goals were mostly achieved except the sub 2.40 that I manage to reach in practice but during the race I blanked out and forgot all the little tips and tricks that i was mastering during the very short testing period.

The 131 responded very well to my commands and I love it! Just stiffen the suspensions couple of notches and shorten one notch the gear ratio.

I wish that we could attend some seminars where the pros explain in detail the setups as  Iracing for life

Most of the settings are still obscure to me, the variable are infinite and I really don't have the time to experiment settings that i do not understand.
