Storc 1 Report post Posted January 18, 2011 Hi all, i got a GT3 Rs today and was connecting it up and watching Darins vid while inputting the settings to my wheel when all of a sudden the ps3 went off and then when i try to turn it back on it goes to start but stops flashes a yellow light and then straight to red. Nothing ever happened with my ps3 before and im thinking somehow the wheel being connected to the os3 caused this yellow light! Has anyone had issues like this before?? lunarwolf 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2011 no fanatec fan myself, but i think the YLOD isn't their fault. it's a well documented problem with PS3s, so i'd say it's a coincidence/bad timing
Storc 1 Report post Posted January 18, 2011 Unbelieveably bad tining!! I was shocked, had never heard of it before and here was my first port of call, i saw some posts, gran turismo was stuck in it for awhile too till a mate told me how to get it out. I went and bought a new slim ps3 160gb, more money! Why not a fan lunar?

Cheers you too
lunarwolf 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2011 first 40gb stopped loading games, some software. yeah my old 40gb phat died too, laser wasn't reading discs hopefully my slim will last
KyleR 1 Report post Posted January 19, 2011 Yellow light is caused by the system over heating. I assume you have an older phat PS3? You can send it back to Sony to get it fixed, but I believe that can be pretty pricey, so it may be a better option to check around online, incl. eBay for someone that repairs them. Infact, some local game stores will do it, not not the likes of Game/Gamestop etc.
saroorhai 3 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 yeah my old 40gb phat died too, laser wasn't reading discs hopefully my slim will last Man, my 60 gig quit reading discs last night. I got it at launch, so even the extended 3 year warranty I bought is over with. I took it apart and tried to clean the laser, then I reformatted because some people say firmware is causing the problem. Nothing worked. I guess I will have to buy a replacement laser lens. I guess I will have to buy a replacement laser lens. firmware won't do anything. lens is probably dead. i contemplated diy, since it's easy, problem is that all fixes for the phat PS3 are temp at best, since there is a problem with the design. also all the lenses on ebay etc... are all refurbs, yeat advertised as new. it's a crock, sonty stopped manufacturing those in 2008. in the end i gave up, Sony wanted £150 to repair w/ 3 month warranty and replacing lasers can quickly become a routine (not unsual for some to do it 3x a year) - in long run i thought it would just be cheaper to buy a slim w/ bigger hdd + game anyway good luck, too bad because i prefer the look of the phat, and you have the 60 so 4 usb, SACD playback and ps2 compatibility. maybe be worth a shot trying to repair, but i wouldn't get my hopes that it will last long. also there are other problems aside from the laser ie ylod and overheating - and none of the fix last just depends how long it will hold out

I was hoping to keep the 60g going since it has more features, but to be honest I have never used more than two of the usb ports and I have not played a ps2 game in over a year, maybe two. But I might just see about selling my xbox and xbox games to trade for a new slim ps3. I might look into a used slim model. Or I could just sell all my ps3 games, xbox and xbox games and start building a new pc. Edit: Now that I think about it, it really frustrates me to have a $600 brick. Storc 1 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 It's so annoying, you live waiting for something to happen to your ps3, well the phat ones, im hoping the slim gives me less trouble, the phat would freeze every now and then too so i was kinda expecting something to happen. I wanted a pc too but that's on hold now.
lunarwolf 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 Edit: Now that I think about it, it really frustrates me to have a $600 brick. you can always sell the damaged ps3 on fleabay to cover some of the costs of a new slim. there is demand for PS3 w/ faulty laser, some try to repair them while others use them as media streamers

I think that is what I'm going to do. Maybe someone with YLOD or whatever can use it. Who knows, if I get enough for it I might sell my ps3 games, get a Fanatec GT2 and start towards bricking my 3rd xbox 360.
