Anyone have the RSEAT W-Stand?

27 posts in this topic

Hey there everyone. I'm weighing my options for a wheel stand and I'm waffling between RSEAT's W-Stand or the Wheel Stand Pro V2. I'm really curious about RSEAT's offering. Looks slick, well made and solid, but I can't for the life of me find any real world reviews or owners. Plenty to find on the Wheel Stand Pro, so I know I can't go wrong buying it. Anyone out there have the W-Stand?

RSEAT W-Stand: http://www.rseat.net/rseat-w-stand/

Major differences between the W-Stand and Wheel Stand Pro:

  • No center post on W-Stand - Big plus for me
  • Price: $229 + s/h for W-Stand (tack on another $129 for shifter mount) vs $164 + s/h for Wheel Stand Pro (Logitech G27 version) - Big price difference for similar functionality
  • Potentially more adjustability in the Wheel Stand Pro
  • Wheel Stand Pro easier to stow away
  • Stability under load - we know how well the Wheel Stand Pro performs. Anyone have experience with the W-Stand? I assume it's just as, if not more stable given it's design.

I currently run the Logitech Driving Force Pro but plan to upgrade to the G27 sometime this year, or just keep saving for the ol' Thrustmaster T500RS or go the Fanatec Clubsport route! :P Of course, if I end up with that equipment, I may just keep saving up even further and throw down for the RSEAT RS1. I'm sold on that full cockpit. Just trying to plan out my progression from very basic gear to higher-end over time.

Thanks for your help!

That's another viable option, @littlebo. I'm about 99% set on snagging the RSEAT W-Stand but we'll see. Currently waiting on some funds to come in to make the purchase. I guess I should do a review on it if I do end up getting it! hahaha

Ok, I just put my rSeat W-Stand last night.  It is a pretty sturdy setup - I'd recommend it based on this fact.  However, I'm not very happy with the positioning of the pedals relative to the wheel.  The pedals are too far forward compared to the wheel position.  In other words, when you are at the proper distance from the wheel (I have the TX 458 Italia), the pedals require a long reach.  I'm 6'1" tall, so I wouldn't recommend this wheel stand for anyone much shorter than that.

It isn't obvious when you look at the pictures, but spend some time visualizing where you will be in the pictures above.  The height of the W-Stand is good for a standard sized chair - if anything, you will be using the bottom holes for most normal chairs.  But unless the wheel is very (too) close to your chest, the pedals are just too far away, in my opinion.  It's as if the position was intended for a race seat, where your feet would be straight out in front of the seat; rather than a chair/couch, where your feet are more under your knees.  But the foot plate is barely inclined, even at max tilt, so I don't get it.

I'm considering turning pedal plate around, which would allow the pedals to be mounted closer.  It will mess up the angle adjustment option, but it may be worth it.

Otherwise, it's a solid piece.  The mounting screws are relatively cheap, but at least they are good sized screws, and they give you extras.  They even provide hex tools and a wrench for installation.  The packaging was pretty bad, but other than some scratches, it arrived (from Bulgaria!) without damage.

Sorry for the less than favorable review.  It still has some strong points - it's pretty sturdy, and looks good.

I don't have any experience with other wheel stands.

Good luck with whatever you get!

Erick

Thank you for review, can you post some photos, please?

Thanks for the review Erick! I'm 6'3" with long legs so maybe this will work. hahaha Srsly though, Good thoughts on it. Now that you mention it, I can envision how this would be a problem. I most likely will be using this on a low couch/loveseat or in a chair that's swooped back a bit like the IKEA Poäng so maybe it will work for me. Should be more of a racing position with the legs extended out than when sitting upright on a regular chair. Man, I'll have to make sure now by looking at their measurements and comparing to how I'll use it. I'd love to see some pics as well.

Ok, I spent some time with my new W-Stand playing iRacing (for the first time).  I was using a normal upright chair that fit between the legs of the W-Stand.  Although the wheel was closer than I want, it still worked ok.  I looked at the IKEA Poang chair online to see what it looked like.  The position looks good for the W-Stand, because it looks like you'd be reclined back slightly.  I think that would be good, in order to get further away from the wheel.  The biggest concern that I would have, would be that the legs of the chair were exactly the same width as the legs of the W-Stand - which would prevent the chair from being close enough to the W-Stand, so that you could reach the pedals.  I just measured the width of the W-Stand legs:  21.25" to the centers of the legs (and the legs have a diameter of about 2").

Tonight I'll play around with rotating the pedal platform 180 degrees, to see if that improves anything.

And I'll have my girlfriend take some pics, which should cement her feelings about how much of a dork I am. No worries - as long as WE know how cool we are.

Here is a picture with the wheel at a comfortable distance, but the pedals (fully depressed) are too far away:

Epic helmet and gloves. Heck yeah we're cool! Don't let anyone deny it. :P Thanks for the pics though. Can totally see the issue there. And right, if you can't slide the W-Stand back around the chair or vice-versa, then I'm sure you'd be too far away from the pedals. Hmmmmmmm we'll see. It'll still be a couple weeks or so before I get funds in to score the purchase, so I'm still undecided.

Looks like your stand has a semi-glossy finish too, yeah? I expected it to be more matte. No biggy of course. That's just aesthetics.

Haha!  Thought you'd appreciate the extra cool-factor.

It may not be obvious from the pics, but when the wheel is the comfortable distance, I have my toes completely extended to fully depress the pedal.  So I've been driving with the wheel very close to me, which works ok, but isn't ideal.

As an update, I tried to reverse the pedal platform.  Unfortunately, it's not going to work as I had hoped.  In order for the pedal plate to be attached with all 4 screws, the angle is such that the front of the platform would need to extend below the bottom of the stand - which can't be done.  If I only attach with 2 screws, the position is good, but the pedal plate become a teeter-totter (which doesn't help the driving much).  It looks like there could be a reverse position of the pedal plate that could be used if I drill new mounting holes - but barely.

Wait.... I think that I figured out a solution!  If I mount the pedal plate upside down and reversed, it will work!  You lose some angle adjustment, so the pedal plate can't have as much 'rake' - but I don't think that I want as much as I thought I would need.  In this configuration, the extended-end of the pedal plate is towards the front (rather than towards the back in the intended orientation).  And the plate is identical (in terms of finish and mounting holes) on the top or bottom, so it's fine from both an aesthetic and functional standpoint.  I'll do some 'testing', and let you know if I find any issues with the updated configuration.  I suspect that it will work, and no one would know the difference otherwise.

FYI, I would call the finish - "semi-gloss" or maybe "satin".

Sorry, I'm not sure what happened to the pictures that I added to the posts.  They were there previously, but don't seem to be anymore.  I also notice that they are gone from "My Media", which is where I posted them from.

I tried using the "Image" icon, but the dropbox link that I provided doesn't show appears as a broken link when it is embedded in the post.  The URL works otherwise, so I'm not sure that I understand.

If someone could point me to a step-by-step guide to successfully posting pics here, I'd greatly appreciate it.  I can't seem to find instructions by searching.

Thanks.

I picked mine up at UPS yesterday. Assembly was a bit of a struggle as the instructions were pretty unclear as it had 4 total steps from start to finish so I assembled my stand by looking at pictures on the internet. I had to take a few steps back once I realized 'that screw wasn't supposed to line up with that hole.' A lot of extra screws, nuts, washers and bolts were included along with a set of alan wrenches which is a big plus, but what I didn't understand was that there were multiple sizes which were not needed as the same size screw and washer were needed for assembly.

I found it to be easier to secure the pedals to the pedal plate before assembling the pedal plate to anything. There are three different ways to assemble the pedal plate to the stand based on your preference of an angel which is nice. The pedal plate has a lot of pre-drilled holes so it looks like it should support any and all pedal sets.

There is no center, horizontal post to support the wheel which is what immediately grabbed my attention for a wheel stand so I had my doubts if it was sturdy enough for "intense racing". This stand has silenced my doubts about that. Not only is the wheel base and plate sturdy and brilliantly designed, but the whole stand is as well. Both supporting posts that connect the wheel base plate to the pedals/rest of the stand have a hole that slide onto the stand that are secured in place by a screw for each post that is screwed into place from one of the five drilled holes giving you a wide range on how tall/low you'd like for the wheel to sit.

From start to finish, assembly took me roughly one hour which shouldn't have taken that long, but then again the instructions were not clear. If I were to assemble another after knowing how to do so correctly, it shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes.

Finally, with my T300RS secured and ready to go, I had a blast using this stand on iRacing and then on my PS3 (F1 2014). It's sturdy, durable and held everything into place.

This stand may have one flaw, though. There are no rubber grips to hold it into place if you need it. I am on a hardwood floor, but I have the stand pushed up into my desk which is supporting my TV/monitor and I never had a problem. Great stand and it is worth the price and great investment for the future. I say this, because I was using a G27 on a GTR chassis which is specifically for the G27 and my new T300RS wouldn't work with it so with all of the drilled holes on the pedal plate and wheel plate I cannot think of any wheels and pedals this cannot support.

Sorry for bumping. I became a little interested in this stand and what bugs me straight away is no out of the box shifter support, then the shifter support arm doesn't allow the shifter to be tilted, so it's placed within awkward range from your hand. The design falls short unfortunately.

Agreed adi518. I haven't been able to pull together extra money to try this out yet, but while it does seem to be a nice stand, I plan to either get a Wheel Stand Pro over this for much less money or save up to build out a custom 80/20 rig that I have designed myself based on a couple other members' rigs.

I got my csb v2 and bmw rim the other day, so now I'm on-to making it fit my WSP Dv2. However, it won't work without some modding, which is okay, but a tad time consuming, so thought of selling it and getting something that works out of the box. Fanatec has their CSL stand which seems to be about right. One of the key things I want in a stand, is compatibility to fit the CSB without the creaking mount it comes with. Unfortunately WSP requires drilling to make it fit. Plus, I'll have to come up with a tilt adapter for the TH8A shifter, since it's positioned terribly out of the box, just like this Rseat stand.
