Just bought my first wheel

5 posts in this topic

Hello,

New to the forum and new to Sim Racing as well. I have had Forza 5 since my xbox came out and I finally decided to buy a wheel to up the experience. I've always been a nerd at heart and I have a love for computers and technology so wnen one of my friends dad races Mazda Miata's and I went to Daytona to watch him race a few times with the team and started getting interested in racing. So I started doing some reading and stumbled upon this site and the youtube videos. It has gotten me very excited for my wheel to come in!

I ended up going with the Thrustmaster TX 458 Italia Edition because it works with both the xbox one and PC. For now I will be doing my sim racing on my xbox one. If I really start to get addicted I will build a PC. I would like to either buy a chair or build one. I havent decided yet. I also want to upgrade the peddles to the ClubSport V2, if even possible with the TX wheel.

I can't wait for tomorrow's mail!

Hey there, welcome to our forums and site! Glad you found us.

The upgrade to the Clubsport pedals is possible with this adapter. http://basherboards.com/CPX

You should also consider the Thrustmaster T3PA pedals when they are in stock as they are only $100 and plug directly into the wheel without an adapter and are a very solid set of pedals.

Congrats on the new wheel purchase and make sure to mount it to something stable and get it as close to your TV / Monitor as possible.

Welcome to ISRT.

Congrats on your first wheel, give yourself time to get used to it, going from a controller to a wheel is a totally different driving experience.

For your rig (seat), there are many options, on the less expensive side, you can build your own rig by getting a seat from a wrecking yard and build the frame from 2x4's as in the "Deathmobile" video here on ISRT.

Or you can buy a manufactured rig, here there are many to chose from at various price ranges, if you go this route, I would recommend avoiding models with a center post (between the legs) like the Playseat Evolution, also the other thing to look for in a manufactured rig is what is included in the package..... Some rigs have a base price and then you have to spend more for options like keyboard trays, shifter tray, seat sliders and so on, many rigs are like this, then there are the more complete packages that include seat sliders, keyboard tray, shifter plate, monitor mount and so on (Obutto oZone and R3volution). It's a matter of how much you want to spend, to build a Deathmobile, would probably cost less than $100 of material, to buy a manufactured rig could be anywhere between $350 to infinity and beyond lol :D .

Good luck with your new wheel and your sim racing hobby, once you get bored of Forza, PC racing offers so many choices and better realism in sim racing, well worth looking into.

Take care

Thanks guys! I actually ended up building the Dethmobile and have had it up and running the last few hours. Its a ton of fun so far! Slightly disappointed in the wheel for the price but it is going into an Xbox one at the moment so I will reserve judgment until I upgrade the Ol' PC. I have been using a MBP as my main computer the last year or so, but eventually I would love to get into PC racing.

Ill post pictures of the Deathmobile later for you all to check out. I don't have a seat yet so I am using a lawn chair for now haha. I need to get some stickers and a seat and I will be set!
