How do I keep the chair to go back when I brake?

34 posts in this topic

Hi, I have a G27, had it for 2 year now I think, still love it. Anyway, what made me stop using it as much is the fact that I needed to get my wooden chair in the kitchen, because the chair I use for regular computer usage has wheels and when I press the pedals (specially the brake which goes harder) I get push back so it becomes umplayable. I hate needing to change chairs, so I ask for a solution. My chair is a Markus from Ikea which has sort of a driving seat shape, so it would be great if I could use it. I just need a way to make the chair stand still, but I can't find a solution. Please give me some ideas. Pic of my chair:

You could take a couple door stops and chuck the wheels. Or take the two wheels on the back legs off

Hi.. that wouldn't work. The chair would still go back, and it would be uneven with the floor. It would also scratch the floor as its made of metal. Plus I dont want to remove the wheels everytime I drive. I need something else..

Hi,

If you search this forum for "evolution of a simrig" you'll be forwarded to something I posted here a while back. In one of the pictures you'll see the gizmo I used to prevent my deskchair from moving backwards. I bought it of the internet from a company in Spain or Italy, if forgot the name. But if you're interested I can try to find out..

Regards, Albert

For some reason I can't copy and paste in this forum, or at least I haven't found out how yet; otherwise I would have pasted the link to the above mentioned page.

A year ago we did the same thing for a friend with an Ikea computer chair and it worked out great:

Is it possible for you to remove the old wheels from the chair? If so, make a wooden platform and drill holes and bolt the legs of the chair onto the wooden platform;

Then buy these: http://www.ikea.com/nl/nl/catalog/products/00288657/

and build the chair/wooden platform on those... These wheels have a brake, but you still could move the chair construction around :) Good luck!

Oh I see, it's definitely a good idea but it would look kinda wierd to have my chair like that.. I dont know, I would like something more subtle. I wonder why there aren't separate wheels with brakes that I could buy for the actual chair instead of having to mount it in a platform? I cant believe these do not exist.

What is that exactly, is it something you can buy or is it custom?

How could I do this for my g27 pedals?

the wheels dont roll because the cup prevents it and it takes a lot more force to overcome the friction of a flat surface.- mine works great on a chair mat but even better on carpet.

Can you show other photos of this setup? I would like to know how the bar is attached to the pedal set. Is the pedal set on some kind of platform? It sort of looks like it is. Please show more details on what connects to what?

I had this situation before i got my rig.  I took a 2 foot piece of 2 by 4 and put velcro, the  prickly side, on the bottom of it.  the barbs stuck to the carpet like glue.  I just put it down behind the wheels when I was racing and the chair didn't move.  When I wanted to use the area or chair for office uses, i simply lifted the 2 by 4 away.  It worked great for me.

Thanks

May sound very silly but I just popped the wheels out of my chair. Still spins and I can lift it easily but it will not slide when I hit the brake.
