AM19 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2014 Hi all, Long time lurker, just getting back into sim racing, and I have a quick (or maybe not so quick) question about the G27. If the USB cable from the wheel is broken, is the best course of action to open up the wheel and replace it? I think I would like to open it up and replace it, but I don't know what cable I would need. From the pictures I have seen of the G27 disassembled, it looks like a 5 pin connector. (I believe it's the bottom right connector in this picture.) https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/6918111254/in/set-72157629784476061 I think I would need something like this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-A-plug-to-internal-5-pin-header-adaptor-cable-male-or-female-/231371635157?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_InterfaceCards&hash=item35ded2f9d5) and then something like this (http://www.cclonline.com/product/60145/USBEXTAA6BK/USB-Firewire-Cables/StarTech-com-USB-2-0-Extension-Cable-1-83m-/CAB0666/), to lengthen it. However, I've seen some 18 and 24 pin cables, and I don't know which one would be needed. Also, could having two cables cause input lag? Alternatively, am I better off trying to splice it back together? I've got myself very confused here, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!
serrasalmus 257 Report post Posted November 21, 2014 if it where me id get a decent usb cable and cut a end off and look and see if its the same and if it is id solder it to the board
Krassi 692 Report post Posted November 21, 2014 Soldering to the board is not job for everyone and the risk to mess up the board is big. Dont do this is my advice. If your original cable is cut just try to connect it back wire to wire and colour to colour. It will work. No need to go to complicated roads when simple solution is ok. AM19 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2014 Hi guys, Thanks for the help. The only thing I'm a little worried about with connecting the wires back together is this: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Logitech-G-Controllers/G27-Broken-cable-between-wheel-and-pedals/td-p/1268698 Although I've no idea if its true or not.. Krassi 692 Report post Posted November 22, 2014 Reconnect wire to wire is working 100% for the USB cable specialy. Just upload here a photo to see how is cut your cable and I will tell you what to do step by step. It is not a big problem and it is a 5 min fix lasting forever;)
serrasalmus 257 Report post Posted November 22, 2014 you have to remember that is a logitech forum there going to say anything they can to get you to send it to them.....where it is true rejoining the wires will create a tiny bit more resistance im pretty sure if u do a color to color with a solid electrical connection(solder) and a good mechanical connection(crimp connecter, heat shrink) you should be just fine.....think of it as extending the usb cable....
