F1 2014 Albert Park lap times

21 posts in this topic

What kind of lap times are you getting???

I'm really struggling in handling the cars.....period, just very little traction!!! Can't seem to get a lot of speed coming out of coroners without seriously feathering the accelerator!!! Which is obviously killing my lap times!!!

I have all assists off....all of them and I'm using manual gear change

Thrustmaster TX with F1 rim and T500 pedals

Struggling to get below a 1:34!!! Not good!!!

I've only spent about 45 minutes with F1 2014, but I came away feeling like it was a little too easy to keep under control.  Maybe it's the ERS torque-fill giving a flatter power curve, or the fact that I've finally moved F1 over to my PC with all of my other driving and that's somehow an easier version, but I just didn't feel like I had to worry as much about traction as I should have, especially given the reduced downforce this year.  Keep in mind, I was driving the Red Bull Ring which I have no older times to compare to, but I definitely got out of my rig still worried that I'd left some hidden assist on somewhere.  I'm normally just not a good enough driver to have so little trouble on a new (to me) track.  I'll head out onto Albert Park tonight and see how I fare.

If i remember right @BigJayA,1,34 should have you mid field in practice in aus this year bruv, when i play i adjust my settings til mid field times are easy and top5 is a real slog then it feels realistic, just me mate.

Hahaha, jay you are seb v and wilson is danny ric!!haaaa,i hope it is that skittis though jay cos it should be.

Ha. I wish that were true, but don't get ahead of yourself there!  Just because I found it easier to control than 2013 doesn't mean I'm faster than Jay - I tried last night and I'm not.  I spent about 20 laps on track and only broke into 1:34 clean once.  I was mostly turning in low 1:36es.  And that was with the Merc (albeit leaving the setup in its default middle position which is probably friendlier to a slightly slower track).

Oh!!!! Ok then.....well I've been messing around with steering settings tonight and think I've found my ideal.......everything felt that little bit tighter and was able to get my time down to the 1:32 mark.....which I was quite happy with....although I still feel like I could perfect the track a little more!!

I kept the settings smack in the middle also, so a good all round profile for dry/wet, all assists off.....every last one of them!!

I think I might fire up F1 2013 tomorrow to compare my times....because I'm pretty sure I was faster still with the 2013 cars.....had more traction out of the corners so could go 'hammer time' far quicker ;)

But......I feel like I'm making progress at least with 2014.....a little more tinkering around with settings and I'll be ready for the AOR league which is due to start early November!!

Yeah I was coming in around position 12 in practice.......but after tonight's wheel setting mess around I should be that bit higher!!!

AI set to 'expert'......was too chicken to set it to 'professional'!!! :P

Still on the fence with buying 2014 - that being said, I have 2010-2013 already and was wondering how you like 2014 compared to 2013?

Feels very different to me, harder to handle the cars....especially with traction out of corners, still messing around with wheel settings and it's starting to feel that bit tighter now....quite happy with the feel I'm getting.

I also have F1 2010 through to F1 2014.....I'm a massive F1 fan so it's a must for me to own it, but that depends on your passion for F1, it's not massively different to F1 2013 except for the obvious (new tracks, sounds etc) but it does certainly feel different.....well it does to me anyhow!!! ;)

Good stuff, thats all we wanted,2013 was ok so to keep that world and throw in the new cars rules tracks and drivers is all we need,i never wanted a new handling model, just the new handling of the new cars.

Im really hoping that they dont stuff up when they go next gen like they did with the toca series, which is now grid autosport, what the hell!!!please god dont let them go "formula one race driver" to try and pull in more gamers for cash.

Hi

*UPDATE*

Tweaked only brakes a bit. Did 1.27.278 dry and then 1.33.936 Wet

I did a 1.28.108 in mercedes with stock setup.

No assists except the racing line in corners. Mercedes feels absolutely fantastic on this track even with stock setup.

I have a thrustmaster TX wheel and playseat.

First here is my TM Settings for wheel if you are interested. My steering rotation for my wheel is set to 360 degrees.

t98dnr.jpg

Car settings for DRY are pretty much stock (every setting in the middle pretty much) in albert park except brakes 48/52 and pressure high. Mercedes works fine with that setup.

For WET i had the quick setup for WET. slider all the way to the left.

I Think your main problem might be your wheel and settings... i think you might be "turning the wheel too much" in the corner (too fast steering) and thats why you get so much wheelspin and problems accelerating out of the corner... I had that problem before i tweaked my wheel settings.

Cheers buddy....will mess around some more ;)

Got my times down to the low 1:30's now......still shaving bits of here and there!!! Hoping your settings will buy me that little bit more!!! I'll report back!

I tell you something pal....you're not wrong!!! I was racing on F1 2014 through steam with randomers......and I came off at the end of the night feeling very deflated!!! Most were running circles around me!!! And what really hurt....was on my all time favourite track (SPA) where I know every single bump and turn, one guy was actually teasing me!!! Slowing down for me to catch up....and then toying with me again!!! But in all honesty.....I had had a few beers and was def feeling the effects by this time.....so I'm putting it down to that!! Either that or the 'GAMEPAD' advantage was VERY noticeable!!! I OWN spa......normally!!! But it was painful!!!
