RushRacing 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2014 Which console will be the best start to create my foundation as a console simulator. I'm looking at longevity to because I know there will be more games to come out for driving. I just want the most realistic driving experience possible and PC is not a option right now. Paradox 92 Report post Posted August 26, 2014 Why is a PC not possible? You can get a decent PC to run sims like rfactor1, GSC Extreme, Race07 and even iRacing just fine for about the cost of a next-gen console. Unless you already have a console, I would advise going the PC route. Wheel support is very limited for consoles, and they are quite expensive. So if you are looking to get a next-gen console and a wheel that supports it, you can get a nice PC for that kind of money.
raydenxxx 8 Report post Posted August 26, 2014 if PC is really not an option... I would suggest you the Xbox one with forza 5, and project cars coming. You can be sure that a Forza 6 is coming to. That's not the most simulation racing, but on console it is a great choice.
Avenga76 835 Report post Posted August 26, 2014 I would agree. Unless you like Forza/GT style games then PC is the way to go. More games, Games are usually cheaper, better wheel support, room to upgrade (triple monitors etc) more sim racing hardware to choose from (Shifters, handbrakes, pedals) With console you are really locking yourself in to a limited set of games and controllers. It depends what you are in to but I have totally ditched my old console because PC is much better. Steam sales mean you can buy PC games at a faction of what console games go for so it works out cheaper in the long run.
woz9us 2 Report post Posted August 26, 2014 If you are limited to a console; the question is Gran Turismo or Forza, as the majority of other titles will be across both platforms. Even then, neither are as good a simulator as those you can find on the PC. Also do you have a wheel already? as you are limited to what you can use with the PS4 & XB1. Another thing to consider is other racers; speaking from experience your competition will be more professional on a PC sim as most are serious racers and are not interested in crashing people out of a race. So in short; PC is the way to go, you can build a half decent PC for the price of an XB1.

Although I do prefer PC racing, right now you can get an XBox One without Kinect for $399. I even saw a bundle on Amazon that includes Madden Football for that price. A base model PC that you can buy from someone that builds them are usually around $800 for the bottom of the line. Sure you can build one for less, but a lot of people don't want to deal with that and having to load drivers, Windows, etc. That also doesn't include a keyboard, mouse and potentially a monitor. Wheel support will grow as more titles are released. XBox One by year end will have Forza 5, Forza Horizon 2, Project Cars and The Crew. Then F1 2015 will be available and most likely Forza 6 by end of next year maybe even a new Dirt title. So in a nutshell, you can have an XBox One, Forza 5 and a Thrustmaster TX wheel for the cost of a PC low end gaming PC. . I'd personally go XBox One at the moment but my opinion may change on that after GT7 is released in the future. But, I've always preferred the Forza franchise over GT so it may not. Other big question is, do you want to race online ? If so, PC beats out consoles by far for that.
wilson_c 19 Report post Posted August 26, 2014 If you get an XB1, you can buy Forza 5 today. If you get a PS4...yeah. For some reason Sony didn't move GT6 development to the PS4. Project Cars and F1 2015 will be out for both, and Grid Autosport isn't available for either, so none of those should sway you one way or another. Looks like the XB1 gives you more options unless you can be tempted into a PC.
RushRacing 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2014 Guys Thank you for the replies, this is my first time out on here and I appreciate the welcoming. I've done quite a bit of research into simulators and iracing seems to be the way to go. I just know absolutely nothing about computers I've priced out the PC route and with the computer, the fanatec, the race seat, and monitors I'm looking at around 4 grand. This is something I want to do but I don't want to half way do it. I race karts and plan on transitioning to cars in the next couple years and I'm looking to develop my driving in every way and this seems to be a very logical and affordable way, thanks again guys and will be reading yals inputs
Avenga76 835 Report post Posted August 27, 2014 iRacing is a great sim. By the sounds of what you are wanting to do then PC will totally be the way to go. With your karting experience you will be wanting the more serious simulators which are only on PC. iRacing would be a prefect fit for you. I would also say try out Game Stock Car, that is another great sim. If you can't get the whole PC in one go then you could start off with just a single monitor and add triples later. Khyber 190 Report post Posted August 27, 2014 while i will always say pc first if consoles: xbox one for forza 5, fh2, pcars in nov...it's also getting the crew and you know forza 6... then get a ps4 when gt7 hits wayyyy down the road. personally this is why i have all 3... i enjoy all types of racing no matter what the platform is....yes pc is #1 and the one i play the most and the one that costs me the most
simracerguy 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2014 What it all comes down to is this......"how much money do you have to spend"??? This is a hobby, and an expensive one at that. Just the add on content in iracing can cost hundreds of dollars , not counting the membership or a pc or monitors or anything else. Money doesn't grow on trees, at least not at my house, but its real easy to spend 3 or 4 thousand dollars on sim equipment if you start from scratch. That's just my opinion
Paradox 92 Report post Posted September 4, 2014 A PC does not have to be expensive to start out in iRacing, Game Stock Car Extreme, or Race07. For about the same cost of a next-gen console you can have a modest gaming PC. Take a look at this:
jonwilli 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2014 To run well on the PC, it will cost much more than a console. My PC GPU costs almost as much as a new console. PS4 is a wait, even with Driveclub soon to released, Id wait. I pre ordered/bought my PS4 last year, still waiting. Three weeks ago I purchased an Xbox One, havent turned it off. Zero7159 57 Report post Posted September 29, 2014 Yeah, I agree with Darin and others about the Xbox One being the logical choice. For about $800, you can get the console ($400), TX wheel and pedal set ($325) and Forza 5 ($60), and have a nice base upon which to build in the future.
