Next Level Racing Wheel Stand Review

18 posts in this topic

I received mine today and I'm a little bit disappointed at the moment, to be honest.

It seems impossible to mount the T500 pedals in GT format (which I prefer) and when I put them the other way around (major pain in the ass to disassemble everything for a try, but not the wheel stand's fault!), I found that when I push hard on the brake (I have the mod using the skateboard bushings) the whole boiler plate deck pivots upwards as it is only held in place by 2 bolts at the back.  I really feel like I'm likely to snap it off in the heat of a race, if I keep the pedals in F1 format.  All it would have taken was a couple more bolts at the sides towards the front of the sliding deck to lock it firmly into place and a few more holes in the deck (or another kind of clamp) to lock the pedals firmly down in GT mode and it would have been perfect.  I could probably botch something but, paying this much, I really shouldn't have to.  So, I have a choice:

  • Mount the pedals in a mode I don't like and risk breaking the rig
  • Leave the pedals in a mode I like, but never permanently attach them to the stand.  I really wanted to be able to fold it all away when I'm not racing, in one easy movement, not fiddle about unplugging stuff and having the separate burden of the pedals.

Apart from that, I have to agree it's as solid as a rock.

If you can live with its faults, or maybe if you can live without realistic break pedal pressure, you'll probably love it.  I don't.

How do you think it is compared to Wheel stand pro deluxe v2? Do you think it can go high and low enough for a couch and office chair etc?

Wheel Stand Pro was 2nd on my list.  I'd love to be able to give you an honest answer, but this is the first wheel stand I've actually owned.  I was bolting stuff to my desk before.  Having watched (more than) a few vids on the subject, I would say that the lack of a centre-post is the biggest factor here.

You can adjust the height through a wide range.  I'm 5-11" and like to sit fairly high in an office chair anyway.  It copes easily with that (at the maximum extension).  There are 6 lower holes you can go to.  I don't really understand the criticism about the height in the video review.  It's a non-issue, unless you are as tall as Darin.  If you can sit comfortably with your legs under a normal office desk, then this should be OK for you.  The bottom of the horizontal bar where you clamp the wheel is 74 cm (29") from the floor at its maximum extension.

The boiler-plate deck slides in and out too.  If you push it out (so your knees go lower), it increases the problem I discussed above.

Hope you find something that you like.

I can't live with the F1 format for my pedals.  I'm going back to the GT mode, even though (atm) it means I can't bolt them down onto the base, like I should be able to.  I'm going to look for something like a metal belt in a DIY store to tie the pedals down to the base so I can fold it away like I should have been able to do from the start.

*Edited for update*:

I managed to hold the pedal unit down to the base plate in GT mode using a series of cable-ties (4 at the back and 2 at the sides).  This has also had the effect of reducing the tendency of the base plate to pivot upwards during heavy breaking.  It has limited the in & out movement of the base plate, but that's not a problem unless you intend to adjust it.  I'm just a bit worried about the pedals dropping-off the base when folded, as the ties are the only thing holding it (that's why I doubled-up at the back).  I'll still look for a metal belt alternative when I can get to a DIY store.  The only other criticism I have is that the locking nuts on the sides, which you are supposed to use to lock the unit when folded for vertical storage, don't work properly.  One side is too loose and can't be tightened, the other is too tight and won't budge when it's folded, so it's a little unsafe as, beyond a certain point of opening-up of the legs, the unit will slide open quickly the rest of the way itself and crash to the floor (and it's damn heavy!): and no, the threads aren't crossed.

It's an excellent product apart from these minor annoyances and really is rock-solid - even the gear-shift plate.

War Radish:

Hi, thanks for interesting info. I am about to buy Next Level Wheel Stand for its stability when the T300 RS and TH8A shifter will be released for PS4.

Could you please let me know what is the height of the gear shifter plate from the ground?

Thank you.

Got my stand this weekend and experienced the same problem that 'War Radish' mentioned,

the pedal plate wobbles and rocks, so decided to make a video of two ways to improve it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5OwwuJVpQM

Stand cons:

- Pedal plate rocking, but fixable.

- Incomplete screw thread preventing a knob from going in, fixed with sand paper and brute force.

Stand minor issues:

- Instructions are poor and lack details, here is a scan.

- Plastic end pieces half rammed in.

Stand pros:

- Very stable, the wheel position is rock solid.

- Easy to fold up and put away against the wall.

Overall it's not a cheap stand and should not have needed fixes,

but I do not regret my choice, as I wanted something sturdy that could fold up quickly,

and this stand does exactly that, it just could have been a better out the box experience.

Hello! My first post here.

I just got my Next Level Racing Wheel Stand. As suggested by WhoIsRich in the above video, I used the Pedal Stopper plate to secure the pedal plate. This was an improvement.

However, There is still "play" with the pedals: When the pedals are pressed moderately hard, the frame itself flexes until stopped by the pedal length control knobs underneath. Actually only by the left knob first, and then when more pressure is applied, by both knobs. A bit difficult to explain, but have a look at the picture. My pedals are standard Logitech G25, so I don´t apply excessive forces.

Apart from making pedals unstable (I guess more so if they were high-end), this seems to stress the pedal length control knobs and even twist the whole frame. I can´t figure how to fix it. Does anyone else have this happening?

This is what mine looks like:

Both knobs are evenly distanced from the lower frame with a small gap, so very little movement.

Check the padding near the hinges to make sure it's not missing or out of place and jamming one side.

You could get some sticky foam and pad the gaps, but if the frame is buckled then you may want a replacement.

Thank you WhoIsRich and sorry for late reply.

Padding doesn´t seem to be the problem. Loosening and re-tightening all the screws doesn´t help either. I guess I need to contact Pagnian Imports. Hopefully they will stand behind their product.

For those interested and hoping someone can suggest a solution, I have attached pictures. For me the joints look suspicious. Especially as seen in the second last picture "NL_joint_front_right_1.jpg".

EDIT: Fixed pictures.

I've had mine for about 6 weeks and it is rock solid but I do have a question.  The shifter attachment has hard plastic stays on both ends so the shifter would be rather far away ...I included pictures.  There doesn't seem to be a way to push them in or remove them.  Am I doing something wrong?

It's a snug fit to keep the shifter arm stable but they are meant to push in. I didn't have a problem myself and it slid in without much effort. Have a look down the tubing and check there isn't any rogue metal catching. If that's clear then carefully shaving a bit off the ribs should do the trick for you.

For that kind of money it should not have this kind of problems. Wheel stand pro V2 is much more cheaper, and it doesn't have any of these problems.
