Absolute begginer in sim racing with a few questions and in need of advice

18 posts in this topic

Hi guys, I'd really get started in the world of sim racing but since I'm only 17 I'm really short on budget.

First of all, I have seen some reviews on a few wheels on the Inside Sim Racing YouTube chanel.

I've seen a wheel online that kind of suits what I'm looking for but I couldn't quite find a lot of opinions. It's the Thrustmaster T100 Force Feedback.

Not sure if it's true, but I've heard it's very similar to the Ferrari F430 Force Feedback reviewed by Shaun and Darin.

So I'd really like to get some opinions on it. Because I really can't spend a lot.

My computer and internet connection aren't very good so until I get something better I'll just be playing GT6 on PS3.

I think a g25 or g27 logitech are really your best bet, even if you play with a controller for a few months to save more for it. I'd guess $225 or so on amazon. If not that then the Driving Force GT is an ok starter. If you want to pc sim then the Logitech Momo is also an option that can be had for $100. It's old but still good.

My advice is to go with a Logitech G27 (a lot quieter than a G25), great if you're on a budget, very good force feedback and great build quality. As a bonus, when you find yourself wanting to move up to the next level, the G27 can grow with you, there are so many mods out there now for the G27's pedals, shifter and wheel. My G27 is stock except for a slight modification I made by adding a real handbrake lever or e-brake as some people call it, connected to one of the buttons on the shifter which I can now map in-game, now I have a real lever to pull on in drifting and rally sims instead of having to press a button which just feels unnatural to me.

With my budget I really narrowed it down between the DFGT or the T100, I can get them at the same price (130 Euros) and both of them new, the thing is I'd have to order the DFGT online or I'd just walk to the store and buy the T100.

EN: luri, go for the dfgt, i currently use a g27, but have a dfgt and its pretty good for the price, you wont regret it. :)

PT: luri , vai para o dfgt, de momento uso g27, mas tenho um dfgt e é bastante bom para o preço, não te vai arrepender. :)

já procuraste aqui, tem alguns à volta de 80€?

that one's collect in person in the UK, I'm from Portugal. But thanks for the suggestion.

You can try to find someone who will post international, Europe has a lot of countries, most of whom have their own ebay sites.

The DFGT is the racer on a budget's dream, Solidly built, lots of buttons to make every kind of game playable, and even a sequential shift knob. Yeah, the pedals aren't the best, but there are mods and options out there.

Well, here are the main differences between the T100 and the DFGT:
DFGT = 900 degrees of rotation, pedals have no resistance. And it seems it's both popular and reliable.

Thrustmaster T100 = 200 (or 270?) degrees of rotation, pedals have resistance. It's a new wheel, so the reliability is not proven yet.

Basically, because of the degrees of rotation, with the Thrustmaster, you'll always have your two hands on the wheel. So everything you drive in GT6 (so, even pick-up trucks...) will feel like an F1, or a Go-Kart (or a GT1/GT3, or a WRC car, or a Ferrari F12, or a Lexus LFA). ;)

That's about it...
I own a Thrustmaster F430 since February, but it's two times the price of the T100. Same degrees of rotation, same pedals with resistance, but the T100 is all plastic, and the F430 is all rubber and metal (metal pedals, metal paddle shifters, rubber wheel). Since I prefer GT1/GT3/WRC/F1 and all kinds of extreme race cars, this was a perfect wheel for me.

I am also new to sim racing, Asetto Corsa is my first PC sim. I went with the Driving Force GT, it's a bargin tor the price.

The only con is the pedals, you will want to mod or upgrade the pedals, because they really suck. I got my one for $100Au delivered. There is no other force feedback wheel available for anywhere near that price.

There is a really cheap bungy cord mod that is meant to improve the feel of the brakes.

good choice, the dfgt is very good at its job, If I were starting on a budget id get a dfgt and add a set of fanatec csr elites as my first upgrade, the dfgt peds are not the best, I stuck a squash ball behind my brake pedal just to give it a little resistance, good luck.

I would suggest DFGT over the G27. Not sure why so many praise the G27. It's loud as heck. has a big soft center and most of the gears inside are plastic along with 2 small motors.

Just get the DFGT and a decent pedal set or look into the Fanatec offerings (My suggestion)
