asator 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2014 I about to buy for first sim racing setup. I have a few question sand not 100% sure which way I want to go starting out. My budget is going to be $500-700USD. Im not sure whether i want to go get the best wheel pedals and shifter i can or go with a g27 and get a good cockpit or wheel stand and just upgrade the wheel and pedals later on. I now that I'm going to want to get the Fanatec SQ shifter but the rest is still up for discussion. If i were to get the best wheel and pedals in my budget i would probably need to wait a good while before i could get a nice rig to hard mount it to. I'm not 100% which wheel to go with from Fanatec ( Porsche 911 gt2(3),CSR) or goign with the Thrustmaster tx and getting the gte wheel. Also how much of a difference is there between the CSR elite pedals and the clubsport v2? I play f1 2013, Assetto Corsa, Game Stock car, Dirt series, GT Legends, and everyone now and then the NFS Shft series.I might get into Iracing im just not a huge fan of subscription based games in general. sebj 616 Report post Posted April 5, 2014 Thats a very low budget, you will spend it on a PC nevermind the equipment. If you have a PC then you will spend it likely on a prebuilt racing seat. My suggestion is to build one yourself, that may cost you around $200 with a junkyard seat and then use the leftover funds to buy a TX wheel. I hear good things about it. You wont have enough cash for a clubsport wheel base and the steering wheels for it.
Gunstar 615 Report post Posted April 6, 2014 I'd say if you have $700 to spend, seeing you own a PC already, I'd go with a Logitech G27 and a $300 - $500 rig, something like the obutto oZone, rSeat EVO (if they're still available) or something around those lines. IMO the G27 is about 80% as good as wheels three times the price and it's very upgradable, as well as being pretty much compatible with EVERYTHING and just basically a great all-rounder. The rig is really the base of your whole operation tho, and as such I'd even prioritize it over a higher end wheel... a high end wheel is pretty much wasted on a desktop or a wheelstand, IMO. Sure they can work, but the experience isn't the same. So you grab a decent wheel now and have something to upgrade from and onto! As Seb said, if you have the means, you can build one and save some bucks. All the best rigs are home made by guys and gals with some serious talent, and there are SO many designs out there... Back to wheels... the only reason I don't say just grab a TX + shifter is that by the time you buy the better rim and a set of T500 pedals or CSP you're over the T500's price, and somehow I just don't see you being happy with the entry level ones it includes, although they are pretty serviceable once you anchor the pedals to something. If you REALLY want to do better in the wheel department, I'd think you are probably looking at T500RS (for the better rim and pedals) and a shifter (like the TH8RS, CSS, CSS SQ, ect...) and that's at least $750 (with the TH8RS/CSS) to $800 (CSS SQ) BEFORE any taxes/shipping... or maybe get into a CSW plus the F1 rim, CSR Elites/CSPv2s, and the CSS/SQ, but that's more like $900 - $1100, and if you're going to spend THAT much, just go all the way and order the BMW rim too. I love my T500RS setup, although if I was still using my G27, I'd still be happy. I've never used the Fanatec gear myself, so I can't comment besides saying it all looks very cool... there is a quality concern there tho, so be warned
jeffmb45 15 Report post Posted April 6, 2014 Something else to consider is this fanatec bundle. It's $359 and comes with the CSR elite pedals and shifter set. http://us.fanatec.com/index.php?route=module/configurator&bundle_id=14 I've had the CSR for nearly a year now with no issues. It replaced my g27 wheel. My current gear is the CSR, CSPv2, and Thurstmaster shifter.
Sean Seebran 11 Report post Posted April 15, 2014 At that price point I would suggest that you purchase a Logitech G27 and build yourself a Ricmotech RS1 DIY rig, that's a great way to start off in simracing. Take a look at at this link for more info: http://www.isrtv.com/sim-racing-chassis/diy-ricmotech-rs1-sim-racing-rig-build
