G27 now or G29 later?

28 posts in this topic

Hi guys! Long time reader first time poster.

So recently my DFGT has picked up a problem where all the right side buttons don't work :???: . The wheel is out of warranty, so I'm hoping that instead of replacing or fixing it Logitech would at least give me a discount on another wheel.

This leads me to my question: Is it worth it and safe to buy a G27 now or wait for Logitech to release or announce any news about the G29?

It seems as though there are a lot of posts saying that Logitech is going to stop making peripherals. Whether this includes wheels for pc I'm not sure.

Also the G27 is close to 4yrs old! Isn't it overdue for an update considering the new consoles are out? (Not referring to the updated G-line boxes)

As of now i have to make do with a simraceway srw-s1 since its the closest thing i have and have a bunch of league races coming up.

Thanks

People have been waiting for YEARS for news on a "G29" but Logitech has never said anything. The G27 addressed all the faults of the G25 (mostly the fragile, light feeling shifter) and added a few features to make up for losing the dual mode shifter... and proceded to just own their price point. Logitech is a mainstream sales kind of company, and once you get over a certain price point ($299 in general) you kind of lose the mainstream customer, and start marketing to enthusiasts, so even if you make more per sale, you make less overall. Anyways, unless Logitech lands the GT7 license, I don't know if an upgrade is likely or even possible at their price point.

I asked Logitech a few months ago "is there a new wheel to come out" the reply i got was " While we can't talk about potential future products, you can stay tuned to our social media channels for further news on the matter. Thanks!"  so i wouldn't throw it out the window and say no G29, like other companies they will want to take advantage of the next gen consoles so I'm sure they will come out with a G29.

CHEERS! :D

That's kind of my feeling, it takes a special game to push wheel development and the only titles I can think of that carry that kind of weight are Forza and especially Gran Turismo... with the ongoing success of PS4 you can bet that GT7 will be a BIG THING and I'm sure that Thrustmaster and Logitech will both have their eyes on that "Offical Wheel" spot,

the New GT isn't exactly getting rave reviews. there's even a Boycott threads on GTplatet the players are soo pissed off.

LOL. It's because GT6 is essentially GT5 with some tweaks, improvements and deletions.

Basically Sony said to PD that GT5 took too long and cost too much and they needed to get another game out of that development and PD had basically no choice but to make it work. It's not that it's bad, but I think that GT fans expect more. I grabbed it tho, on day 1, and I've gotten some play out of it.

It's kind of back to the "mainstream" thing tho, GT6 has probably sold less than any other GT because Sony didn't push it hard in the wake of the PS4 release. However, as it was basically a GT5 redo, dev cost was much lower and much money was made... PLUS it lets Sony say "Look! We're still supporting PS3 with AAA titles!" and that's a good call from a customer perception standpoint.

As much as we enthusiasts may grumble and groan at the end of the day if it sells more than is cost to make, it did it's job. By the time GT7 comes around it'll be the whole F'N show for Sony again.

Thanks for the info Gunstar. Having never played any of the modern Console games on my Rig, I wouldn't have the slightest clue on all the up's and down's the games been through aside from seeing the Boycott thread which made me lol.

Here is a quote I found from the CEO of Logitech.

“We have also identified a number of product categories that no longer fit with our current strategic direction,” CEO Bracken P. Darrell commented. “As a result, we have initiated the process to divest our remote controls and digital video security categories, and we plan to discontinue other non-strategic products, such as speaker docks and console gaming peripherals, by the end of Calendar Year 2013.”

And that was posted back in Jan 2013 lot's have changed since then like i said new titles and consoles and with other companies bringing out new products Logitech will also.. I would put money on a new wheel from Logitech if not a G29 it will be a wheel with a different name.

If you can find a good deal on a G27, especially a new one for close to $200, then I'd consider it. It'll work on PC and PS3.

For PS4, at this time, I'm not sure if there is support for Logitech... yet. I may have overlooked it, but I haven't seen confirmation about it working on PS4, but it's expected that Logitech will provide updated drivers for Sony to include in a system update. There may be newer information, but I haven't heard anything myself.

I have a Fanatec CSR Elite... so I have an investment in an incredible wheel... that won't work on the Xbox One. If an adapter or some other reasonable option becomes available, I would consider purchasing an Xbox One because I really enjoyed Forza 3 and 4. If there's a price drop, then I'd be even more serious about it. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying GT6 (GT5.9) on the PS3, various titles on the Xbox 360, and a few on the PC.

I owned a G27, and it was a very nice wheel. I switched over to the Fanatec gear because I wanted a wheel I could use with the Xbox 360 as well.

I kinda agree with that. There's nothing really pushing Logitech to make a new wheel. Maybe a deal with PD and sony would force their hand, but in that case I think it would be more of a DFGT refresh than a G29.

I did look into a Fanatec wheel but even their cheapest bundle option with the GT3 RS with shipping comes to about $450 :o . Which is way out of my price range.

I currently also own a ps3 and as far as next gen goes i don't think ill be thinking of getting an xb1 or ps4 until at least the slim versions come out.

I think my best option would be a G27 for now and then when i eventually get a ps4 or xb1 think about the possible G29 or thrustmaster or fanatec.

Thanks again guys! :D

As it turns out Driving Wheels weren't counted among their console accessories, interestingly enough!

If they're going to release a G29 there would be no better time than Gran Turismo 7, that could be two years + away at this point though.

They are not going to make anymore gaming peripherals. They stated that in  January 2013 so a yr ago.

They did what? HAHAHAHA...In order to fix something, you must actualy fix it and the current one is still shit, it catches onto most of the gates, not to mention that it is the same shifter only without springs or whatever from the sequental mode and the mode switch, apart from that the sequantel gates are still there when you press down you can put it in 3rd and 4th which used to be SQ mode. So they didn't do anything really to make it different...Apart from lack of 2 shifter modes, 4 extra buttons on the wheel ( in the must stupid place ), and different gears in the wheel... Uhmm exactly the same wheel...

And Logitech has never even hinted G29, It's that people expect it for no reason...

This does not look like something that Logitech would call the G29!!!!  it looks to me like a revamped DFGT......I would say that this photo is

a definite fake!! but that's just my opinion!!

Not convinced!!!
