Acceptable iRacing Budget PC?

14 posts in this topic

I've been looking to get into the iRacing game on a budget and have been looking to build my own computer as I currently don't have a system that can run it.  I don't know much about building PC's as this will be my first build so I've been looking a lot on New Egg and doing searches to find out more info.  I'm looking to get in now for under $600 for the computer so I'm thinking $500 for the machine and $100 roughly for Windows.  I found this system on New Egg labeled Entry level so I thought it was up my alley and wanted to make sure it would be sufficient to get my feet wet and back in to sim racing before I go all in and drop a lot of money on a dream system.  Thanks for taking a look for me.

750W is enough to run a couple of 780 ti's so I just think that for a budget build either up the graphics card or down the 600W PSU to 450 or 500W. But anyway it will work fine ;)

Hmm, not sure I can agree 100% with that.  Not all PSUs are created equally at a given output.  And the cards will throttle back performance based on power fluctuations.  Better to have some headroom if at all possible. :)

It should run iRacing fine. If you plan to use three monitors I will suggest a different graphic card. That is because that card model does not support it eyefinity. Only the model 260x of the R7 series support it. If you plan to use just one monitor no issue there.

truth be told lol..   My first win was on a PC i bought for 100 bucks.. a dell with 2 gb ram and and graphics card with 250 mb on it. She was cruising at a solid 26 frames per second with graphics in minimum..  Your not limited on playing.. just in pretty textures and shadows.  But optimal you would want 6 gb of ram and a graphics card of a gig or more.

I finally got my parts in thanks to the snow storms, I decided to spend a little more money on the machine and got a decent graphics card and went with the AMD FX-6300 chip.  This was my first build and everything seems to be working and going smooth.  Just waiting for all the windows updates to load before I can hit the track.  Hope to see you guys out there soon.  Thanks again for the advice and help.

$1,900 would have been way too much for me to spend and stay married...  I'm new to the computer building and pc sim racing game but just out of curiosity how long do these system builds last before you have to start dumping more money into it to keep up?  I was under the impression that every other year or so I'd be forced to put more money into the system just to keep up with the technology which is why I couldn't justify spending more than I did to myself or the wife.  I have under $900 in my machine with the AMD FX-6300 chip, 8gb of ram and GTX650Ti card.  I'm averaging over 100fps with the sim capping me at 150fps, if I turn it to unrestricted I easily get over 250-300fps.  I leave it capped at 150fps mainly because I don't understand the graphics settings in the sim and what it's doing to my machine running unrestricted.  I also feel like I'm getting good performance out of it without stressing the machine or components since I just have the stock cpu cooler and the case fans for cooling.

You should be good with that computer for a while with iRacing.   Being online only and a subscription service they appear to try to keep the sim running across as wide a range of PCs as they can while still giving a very good experience.  While they might not have the best eye candy FX, it does have great draw distances and large car fields.   I'm still running a computer I built over 3yrs ago and I don't feel any need to upgrade at the moment just for iRacing.

I know it's irrelevant but to put things into perspective. My system has 8gb of RAM, a GTX770 and an i5 4670k and I can get anywhere from 130fps to well over 350fps in iRacing with everything cranked up. Mind you this monster set me back $1,900.....

You spent whaat! You could get the same performance for half the price. What have you done to bump up the price so much, for that cash you could have got dual R9 290 that would smoke that 770 by miles! Take care! //Tobbi
