Davewolf 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2014 First time poster, long time reader. I am a Dad with 3 kids, so attempting to get into Iracing (long time N2003 racer) with my existing PC. Need some input to determine if I am going down wrong path. Current specs: 4 year-old Dell Desktop 2.4 GHz Quad Core 2.0 GM RAM GE Force 8600 GT Video Card Looking to upgrade video card (currently looking at GTX 680 or 760 or Radeon 6xxx series) Looking to upgrade RAM to either 4.0 or 6.0 GB Current OS is Vista Goal: To run Iracing on 3 screens, currently looking for 2 additional screens to match 22" Dell monitor (1680 x 1050 display at max of 60 Hz) at a steady FPS of 80-100. The more I read on here, I realize I am at the low-end of what I want to spend for my sim-racing budget. Tons of threads about dedicated rigs, 120 Hz monitors that are 27-30" in size. I have 3 college tuitions to save for, but still want to get on the track so I am ready to make some concessions. Questions: 1) Is my processor and OS sufficient to handle workload of online racing with Iracing? Are they sufficient to handle this type of video card? 2) Am I throwing upgrade money (hopefully $200-250 for video card) and $75-100 for additional RAM) into a dinosaur I would just be better off replacing in a few years? If so, is Iracing even functional at current specs with no upgrade? (I know I meet minimal requirements, but am I going to be stuttering a track that looks like it is on surface of the moon because of no detail?) 3) Hoping to score some decent refurbished or used monitors online that I can match to existing monitor. Hope would be to use Active Display Adapter and HDMI-DVI Converter to use DVI ports on all 3 monitors. Assume this technology works on monitors 3-5 years old, just not at highest resolutions of more recent 16:9 ratio monitors? Thanks for any help and guidance you can provide! jeffmb45 15 Report post Posted February 7, 2014 I ran iRacing on triples using a Core 2 duo 2.8ghz with 4gb ram and one amd 2gb 6870. Ran fine, but I had to keep the graphics setting on the lower side. Still looked good though. The GTX 680 would be better than the 760. If you go with an AMD graphics card, skip the 6000 series and get the R9 270X. The 270X is in your budget.
Charlie Kuzma 34 Report post Posted February 7, 2014 When I first got my triples I was running an I7 920 (2.6 Ghz) and an XFX 5870 XXX video card. This setup worked great for me. As a matter of fact, I recently upgraded and I have a bunch of that stuff up for grabs (mobo, processor, heat sink, triple 22's with stand, video card..etc) PM me if you have any questions or interest. Davewolf 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2014 Thanks for the help guys! Appreciate the insight! What kind of FPS were either of you getting with those setups? Are dynamic shadows the main detail you turn off? Or do you have to turn off significant amounts of other detail?
