Zantium 46 Report post Posted January 21, 2014 Well, I appear to be completely hooked on Assetto Corsa but the DFGT pedals were not great (better they put the money into the wheel though). I was looking at building my own pedals given the cost of a decent set but managed to chance on a G25 with broken encoder wheel and in bits on eBay. I got in touch, bought it for a very reasonable £40 and drove the 460 mile round trip today (via Leo Bodnar's workshop in Silverstone) to collect - you might say I was keen. So I'm very pleased with the pedals, plugged straight in with the LB cable I bought and working great. Having sorted through the bits for the G25, it looks in good condition aside from the optical sensor expiring. I know I can get a brass replacement, which is an option but are there any other options e.g. converting to rotary hall sensor or anything similar? I'm reasonably handy and other ideas I had are to pull the logitech electronics and build my own instead while converting it to belt drive FFB - I'm not sure if there's any off-the-shelf software to drive the FFB as I'm really quite new to this (though I did build custom joystick boards for people when I was at school, many, many years ago!). Or am I just being daft given I don't really have a lot of spare time and I should just try and repair the G25? The belt conversion idea came about because the DFGT is so damn noisy - I'm getting comments from the household while trying to drive!
Ricky Davies 326 Report post Posted January 21, 2014 Depends on how much it's going to cost for the parts and sourcing the parts to fix and convert to a belt driven FFB. Personally i would repair the G25 keep it stock and hopefully you can move to the T500rs in the future which is belt driven BUT if your looking for parts check out the sales section, also to a WTB thread there and list the parts you need. Hopefully you will find what you are looking for. http://isrtv.com/forums/forum/37-sim-gear-buy-sell/ CHEERS!
Zantium 46 Report post Posted January 21, 2014 Having slept on it, I think you're right. I usually only set about building things because I can do it better for less or the thing doesn't exist already - in this case as you say the T500rs is already out there and very well regarded, though quite costly. It could be that the G25 would be all the wheel I need if I can repair it as I've never tried one. Repair it is then - I'll re-assemble it and glue the broken sensor in first to make sure I have something to work with at least, then order a sensor. £23 delivered for a brass sensor would make it a pretty cheap upgrade. As your in the UK as well you can find the T500rs for around £380 on Amazon and ebay (New) just keep an eye out. CHEERS!

I need to improve my driving first anyway, I'm getting better but it's not the wheel holding me back.
Zantium 46 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 Bit of an update! Despite me collecting it as a box of bits, the optical wheel being in 3 pieces and the mount for the sensor in another 3, I have managed to resurrect the G25! It did take some careful pinpoint gluing and clamping but I re-assembled the optical wheel with a little stainless still plate/collar to hold it together and give it some strength. All the bits were there at least, the previous owner having bagged anything small including about 20 various screws. I'll see how it goes but it works perfectly now and the FFB is quieter and feels more refined, more communicative. If needs be I'll get one of those brass optical wheels to fit instead but it might actually just hold together OK now. Really chuffed with the result.
