New to sim racing and RFactor 2

6 posts in this topic

Hi all,

I've done some racing with Forza 4, but RF2 is my first PC sim.  I moved to the PC to try and focus on some of the finer points of technique and through the tough love of accurate physics, maybe learn to drive.  Funny, since getting this sim, I've learned letting off the throttle in a corner can at times be bad.  Amazing!

Anyway, I've got a G27 wheel and use Fanatec CSR Elite pedals for the load cell brake.  At this time, I'm really enjoying racing the AI and learning what lines are best for each track.  I guess my question is, should I be in a hurry to race online?  It seems I'm making progress, having fun and not getting in anybody's way.  I'd eventually like to do an iracing career, but for now I'd like to improve as a driver before mixing it up with other real racers.  Any harm in this?

BTW, I've been a fan of inside Sim racing for some time and actually live just over an hour from their current location.  Not sure, but I think having them this close is making me faster.......

I'd like to hear any advice you folks might be able to offer a new racer.

Thanks in advance!

Dave

I joined a web site called racefactor.com.au as it was in Australia where I come from. I joined was made to feel welcome and any ?'s I asked they were there to help me. setups learning the ins and outs of rfactor any thing I dint know about PC'S they were there to help. rf2 is easy if you know rf1. So I would say find a good website near you join see how you get on if its for you and if they have great members you will know rf2 in a month max if you are on all the time. They should have a league race you can join str8 away as usually most of them are running some kind of race. Also a good idea to find out what they are racing and if that appeals to you. The reason I like my league so much is the members vote on the mod and tracks we are going to race majority wins. Community is closer for this reason. AND WE ONLY USE AUTO CLUTCH AID

Coops,

thanks for your reply.  Helpful stuff!  My question to the community, to frame it a bit better, would be is it a good idea for the new sim racer to hone their skills offline before venturing out to online races, or are there skills that can be only learned by racing with real folks in an online situation?   I guess I'm asking, at what point does racing AI loose out to racing online?  Just trying to develop my new skills in the best way possible.

Thanks to all,

Dave

yes, it is good to work on your race skills offline first. But you can run in the online practice

sessions to get a feel of racing against real racers

Or once you have the feel for a track, join a race, but don't Q and start the race in the

rear of the field.

Welcome to PC sim racing Dave. Hope you enjoy it.
