New to sim racing quick question? for shaun or Darin or anyone really

My question is while oval racing or road racing do you guys use the clutch or not? im new to sim racing i know on oval racing the use of the clutch is normal to save fuel during cautions lap but other than that i look everywhere for an answer an can't find one ill be really greatfull for your help since i be getting my wheel i about 3 days and I'M trying to gather as most informations as possible for when i start to do it the right way from the beginning in the practice sections thank you. Any other tips or tutorials are most welcome as well if you can suggest any.

It really depends on the car. Some cars only require for you to lift off the throttle while you go to the next gear, and they only require you to blip when downshifting. In iRacing the Mazda MX5 for me is about a second quicker when I use the clutch which is crazy. I love to heel and toe on my downshifts, so that's the reason why I use the clutch. In oval, I do recommend using it because of fuel saving as you said. With road, I recommend using it with the cars that really need it because it's just so much more immersive. Some cars are very weird with this though. Like V8SC, that car doesn't need the clutch on upshifts and acts like it's fitted with two clutches, but when downshifting, in real life people use the clutch. It's not necessary, but maybe it's a little quicker...

 

Overall, if you have an h-pattern shifter, you will enjoy your racing more with the clutch (if the car would normally have it).

Unless the clutch makes me faster, I don't race with it. I love to sim drive with it. In competition, like Jarvis mentioned above the MX5 and Mustang in iRacing are faster with the clutch so I may use i there. I rarely race those cars, so that means I rarely race with a clutch.

Thank you for taking the time to give me this feedback i see is just a matter of knowing the car your driving more than anything and preferences and thank you once again ill keep doing some more research now.

For years I wanted a shifter and clutch, I remember my first wheel, that was a big downer for me. So I use both the shifter and the clutch all the time, I am also a big stickler about things like this, if the real car use the clutch then I use it without question.
