UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 I'd go with these, 144hz and 27": http://www.amazon.com/Series-VG278HE-27-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00906HM6K/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1385059562&sr=8-9&keywords=asus+monitor+

Apex2Apex 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 ok.. so now the question is size.. i hearing that 27 may be too big??? maybe go with 24"? I will be purchasing the Obutto rig... so not sure how close i will be sitting to it. Which size is "average"?
alwaysinboost 3 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 bank account, garage and monitor are 3 of the 4 things you can't have too big...
UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 nope 27 is not too big. The perfect size for me would be a little larger actually at about 32"
Apex2Apex 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 damn.. those Asus 27" are out of my budget.. I spent extra on the PC and don't want to give up anything on the rig. those Hanns are very appealing.. but just can't find any "expert" reviews on them.
UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 The Hanns are pretty good from reviews I've read although you can get the occasional duff one and durability can be a little questionable - you pay for what you get. If the ASUS are out of your budget then drop down to the 60Hz versions that I have - they are excellent and $100 cheaper: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VE278Q-27-Inch-Integrated-Speakers/dp/B0043T34RK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385067137&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+27+inch+monitor
Apex2Apex 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 Now I heard that not all 60Hz LCDs are created equal.. some can be pushed to 70-80Hz via nVidia control panel. Any truth in that?
UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 It's possible for some displays but you won't notice a difference for it to be worth the hassle. Believe me 60Hz vs 120Hz is over hyped. The jump from single monitor to triples is a much more noticeable improvement. The biggest downside of 60Hz is screen tearing and if you have a powerful GPU that can average over 120FPS (which you have) you'll notice little to no screen tearing at all. Note you'll also be able to give G-Sync a try with your card which also eliminates 60Hz related issues. I've never tried it but I've read good things about it and that input lag is now negligible. UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 Yep it will, no problem at all Apex, glad to help pass on some of the stuff I've absorbed during my own research
Apex2Apex 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 so looking at my budget.. I may need to go with 3 good 24".. instead of mediocre 27s... thoughts on these? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116657
UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 I haven't read much about these monitors so i can't help you much I'm afraid but these look perfectly fine. Regarding size, 24" is fine, I'd aim to get them as close to your wheel as you possibly can just so you can squeeze as much FOV as you can.
