Console Or Pc Racing - Where To Start

6 posts in this topic

I've been thinking about getting into sim style racing (been playing console racing games for a while) and I was wondering if I do decide to get started, is iRacing the best option? What are the other alternatives. I'm looking into getting a rig as well. I'm tired of a gamepad

iRacing is a great place to start and there's some other alternatives as well if you prefer to race offline or against AI. Check this thread out that I just posted for all the current titles available

You could also get a wheel and do some on the console as they're pretty good. All three of these companies wheels work on the PS3 and PC..- Fanatec, Logitech and Thrustmaster. Fanatec has wheel and pedal sets that work on both of those and the XBox 360 as well. The type of wheel you get will most likely depend on your budget. .

Hope that helps !

Ask your questions here about whether to get started in Sim Racing on the consoles (Playstation or XBox) or jump right to the PC.

I started with consoles, Nascar Thunder 2002 on the orginal x box. I didn't do it long at all and I swiched to the PC with Nascar Racing 3, and my old logitech Monon wheel and I loved it. I missed the career mode from the consoles but the realisim and features of the PC made up for it. I would never have gone back but my computer was destroyed by a stupid internet tech in 2004. I think that PC racing is far better then console. I am currently building a PC sim. For one you can't get any of the accesseries, like button boxes, triple monitors, simvibe, and so forth. I will never go back to the consoles again, well that and all my consoles are older ones I don't even have a ps3. I feel cosoles are way over priced so I only get the older ones.

Console vs PC for sim racing.

I'd have to say PC would win every time hands down, the main reason being selection of software. There are many titles available on the PC, also, with a decent computer system, the racing games or sims will look better and feel better on a PC. If you have a wheel, the wheel's force feedback will be smoother and more precise on a PC than on a console (I noticed this between a PS3 and a PC), on some titles that are available on both the consoles and PC, the title will look better on PC, and even sometimes will have more content on PC (details on PC that aren't there on consoles to save memory, road signs, trees, etc).

Take care

I hope to get my rig sometime soon; I have fallen in love with the Fanatec wheels; particularly the 911 GT2 Wheel. :) I can't wait to get started.
