UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) With the current games in the Oculus store I think you'll get away with an overclocked 7970, they aren't that demanding some of the games. That should tie you over until the 1080 is out. You could also keep an eye out for a used bargain 980TI to tie you over till the 1080TI is released next year. The timing is lousy for the new VR cards and AAA VR titles, that is the price to pay for early adoption I suppose. Can't wait to read your initial impressions of VR Edited May 26, 2016 by UNKLE
sebj 616 Report post Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) Now that I am getting the CV1 I will be selling 2 or all 3 of my 27inch 120Hz Benq's. I'll post an official FS thread soon, for those interested feel free to PM me. http://gaming.benq.com/gaming-monitor/xl2720t/#skip @UNKLE, would you recommend I keep one 120Hz panel or sell all 3 and get a 60Hz since I'll have the Rift? Edited May 26, 2016 by sebj
UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted May 26, 2016 It might be easier for you to shift all 3 monitors unless a buyer already has the same model and is simply looking 2 more for triples. You could find a 60hz owner who wants to upgrade to 3x120Hz so you could come to a deal for them to send you their old monitor along with cash for the 120Hz monitors. In theory with Virtual Desktop you don't need any monitor and you could use a remote desktop like SplashTop for updates etc, but what's good about the CV1 now is that when you play a game others can see on the monitor what you are playing and it's in normal view. In my case I decided to keep my triple monitors, 2 are used in my office and the one remaining is used for the RIg solely for updates and when I'm tinkering with the computer. sebj 616 Report post Posted May 31, 2016 backed up my Sim racing PC Win 7 64bit and now upgrading to windows 10 opened the box...I felt like a 5 year old opening up the gift I had dreamed about. Hadnt had that feeling for a long time...hoping the 7970 can get me through until mid june when the 3rd party 1080's are out. 3 jimmyhigh, SteveS and Tsfc reacted to this
UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) It's beautifully presented isn't it, the whole product just oozes quality. Just try OC the heck out of the 7970 until you get your 1080, it should be fine for running the majority of demos and early games. sebj 616 Report post Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) Ok..so....I just completed a small taste of the CV1. Amazing!! Just incredible! Presence is there right from the Oculus home environment. I cant wait to try it in a racing sim. You really need to have the right controller for the application you are using otherwise its easy to break immersion. I will have to try the leap motion which I have as well with this. I have no issues with SDE, god rays or resolution. Resolution is actually better than I thought it was going to be! The Rift is very clear all around although you have to take some time and position it correctly on your head as well as the IPD setting. BTW, running it on my slightly overclocked 7970 and I get enough jitter in the dreamdeck sequences to make it distracting. Have to move very slowly. I hope it holds up better in iracing until I upgrade the GPU. Cant wait to try Lucky's tail, iRacing next week etc...etc..! Bring on the games! EDIT: oh yeah, straight forward to set it all up, they made it so easy. Product is top notch. I will want to do a more thorough test of the headphones and compare them to my sennheisers. I like the cable integration in the unit. You dont feel them at all. Edited June 3, 2016 by sebj 3 Tsfc, Kevin Jowett and SteveS reacted to this

UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) Glad you are enjoying it mate, I was having a blast with Blaze Rush today, for kicks while I was playing the game I sat up off the seat on my rig and sat on the floor, i could move around anywhere and the tracking camera managed to keep up really surprising well, it was like a real slot car set but on steroids totally amazing experience. I can't wait to get the touch and to move around properly, my wife and I were even talking about a VR room cause she loves it so much, even more than me. sebj 616 Report post Posted June 3, 2016 I haven't let mine know yet until I get used to it so that I can demo it properly to her Talking about the floor. When I di the dinosaur dream deck sequence, I touched the basement floor and it added to the presence. Same type of material. Today I will give AC and elite dangerous a go amongst others. 1 Tsfc reacted to this
sebj 616 Report post Posted June 3, 2016 Some more experiences... I tried the full dreamdeck experience...I was blown away by the submarine. I couldnt stop smiling and saying wow! the positional sound and true scale does transport you to another world. Cant wait to show that off. Lucky's tail is great! I'd never play this on 2D but in 3D VR it shines. I love that you can see the entire world around you and as you play some of the animated items come closer to you to provide that sense of depth. My son would love this...Our kids will never appreciate the old 1970's arcade games after this So far everything is enjoyable on the 7970, I'm surprised, but I have not spun up Elite or AC yet. 1 UNKLE reacted to this

I think kids platform games and simplistic god type games really shine in VR, it's like playing in a little toy store with animated characters running around you. I can imagine picking up objects in the levels with the touch will take it to the next level in next iterations of games like these. Haha. Now you see what I have been harping on about and why I don't have my triples anymore. There really is no going back to monitors after you have tried VR. 2 ThreeDprof and SteveS reacted to this

sebj 616 Report post Posted June 5, 2016 Get excited it's mind blowing. I got to bed late because of it yet again. It has spoiled all my 2d gaming now. Can't wait to play an isometric RPG with this thing too. It's like a table top experience but with real moving figurines. Right now I can't stop hot lapping. With iRacing around the corner I am good as gone into the matrix 1 jimmyhigh reacted to this
