seb, I like the way you got your screen placed over the front of your base, can you just tell me how far your screen is from your eye? I may have to put my seat back a little as im 700mm now and if I do what you've done I will be 400mm, thats a little close I think so I would have to move my seat back, my FOV at the moment is 160 so im missing out a little, cheers

My eyes measure approximately 610mm from the screen. This really depends on your height (6'2" - 188cm) and your sitting position as a result. My wife is shorter so she sits about 540mm from the screen. These distances as you are aware affect your FOV. But your FOV is also affected by the size of your monitors as they have to represent a realistic cockpit on screen. I did some research into this and I was going to post this as a separate post. I think I will do this now.

I've finally decided to throw in the towel on the console racing era and move over to PC. This thread will describe my current and new DIY wooden racing chassis. I'll document what I can and I'm happy to field any questions and welcome any comments you may have on my progress and finished project.

Thanks go out to Darin and Shaun for this community and to everyone here that inspired me in different areas of this project.

I'll keep this post updated with any new additions and pictures while the posts below will detail the build.

Happy racing!

Hey Nomad06, thanks! I appreciate that. If you have the time, I sense you have the desire, start building your own DIY cockpit and use your existing equipment. You will have lots of fun! take your time too, it took me about 2 months to make it, 30min-1hr / day. It took a month just to find a good seat at a decent price.

Looks good Seb, yeah JARVIS keep up I had my hood extensions on months ago

I think they work well the hood extensions, they certainly prevent my dog from sitting in my eyeline staring at me and giving me a guilt trip

Hey there forum members,

I'm starting to plan for the Oculus Rift and will be doing some rig modifications. One key one for me will be the adjust ability of the wheel height and forward/backward position.  I have a wooden rig so I can pretty much implement any design with some imagination and good planning.

I'm looking for any ideas that you may have implemented or seen elsewhere.

Thanks!

Steve uses an electric seat ripped out of a real car that's one option.

From what I've read from a few rift users is that it feels weird when you are in an open wheel car and you are sitting in a GT position.  Apparently it feels like your legs are going through the tarmac.  Where as the other way round (F1 position driving a GT car) it feels fine.

Your seat already reclines so maybe all you need is a way to easily lift your pedals up higher and bring your wheel closer.

The Monkey Driver rig looks like a great option for Rift users since it can easily change from a GT to F1 style driving position.

I'm going to wait until I have the CV1 in my hands before I make any tweaks to my setup

Thanks UNKLE, I have seen the monkey rig when you posted it before and agree its a good setup for changing sitting positions. Even now without the rift I get the same feeling when switching GT to F1 style. I end up reclining back further and that helps. Pedal adjustment will be my other modification project. I'm just gathering ideas for now, when the rift comes out I will implement them. I may do the wheel adjustment earlier depending if a good solution is proposed.
