I seem to configure the bezel correction and it works great in windows but when I get into iRacing I cant get it to work. What values do I put into the monitor measurement settings now? every cockpit on screen just becomes too big all of a sudden. Plus i'm curious if the new resolution of 6100x1080 creates more work on iRacing or if the ATI driver simply subtracts the bezel from the graphics engine. UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 If you are using CCC bezel correction then in iRacing you don't need to accommodate for the bezel so the screen width (with and without the bezel) should match - otherwise iRacing will bezel correct the image that's already bezel corrected and I presume you've got the render each screen separately option enabled in iRacing? sebj 616 Report post Posted November 23, 2013 Short update, I've been enjoying this amazing project, particularly practicing and tinkering with configurations. Its at a state I really enjoy. I configured SimVibe for the MX-5 and McLaren and plan to do separate files for each car. There are subtle and not so subtle differences for each vehicle so it is important to tweak separately. I can feel the road bumps in the front/rear/sides, the engine revs, shifting etc. It is a blast and I highly recommend SimVibe to anyone that hasn't done this already. I am using it in chassis mode and it takes the sim to a new level..it feels like you are in a sim vs sitting at a PC screen. I edited the app.ini file and changed the driversheight to -0.01000 after a few attempts to get it right. Although a small change, it really made a difference to get the in car sitting position aligned with my sitting position. Thanks for the tip U.N.C.L.E. After I get my monitor hood installed and receive the Fanatec SQ shifter, I'll take some better pictures. I still plan to mount the PC motherboard to the triple screen mount. It will rest overtop and past the wheel. It will make cable management cleaner and the whole thing more compact. I plan to use copper tube grey foam insulation to house the cords, and use ties. It'll make it look more like the interior of a race car. I've seen others do this and it looks convincing. If anyone has specific build questions feel free to PM me. sebj 616 Report post Posted November 24, 2013 Tucker, no need to be scared Hooking it up is like any other speakers to your sound card. The SimVibe software is easy to install, it automatically finds your games and then its just a matter of tuning the sliders to your liking. The main problems people get into is they wire the positive to the negative terminals or visa versa or they end up running a second sound card identical to the first. If you use two external sound cards they have to be different manufacturers because the drivers somehow dont differentiate between the two. I use the on board sound for SimVibe in quadraphonic mode (front and rear) and use another card for the game audio. In windows set your audio card in the sound properties as the default device and in simvibe set your on board sound as the one to use for it. Piece of cake. Man you work fast! I really like your details, hidden transducers, screen positioning and man I wish I had of gone bigger with my monitors now that I've seen yours! I can really see where positioning them in the right position makes a world of difference. Hope that shifter's set up soon too, you going to do a console? Thanks for the tip in simvibe, I doubled one of the engine effect as a test last night after our race and it makes a huge difference I think, I've gotta play around more now. Sounds like you've got way more technical knowledge than I... a real advantage in setup & tuning. Any updated pics of that hood and how you did it? I've been holding off on mine as I'm trying to figure the best mounting option... so far I've got a roll of black duct tape but want something more polished. sebj 616 Report post Posted December 4, 2013 Hi Kevin, thank you for the kind words. It was fun racing with you, well mainly practicing. I have to re-run my qualifying time so I don't start at the back of the pack, considering my laptimes have improved by 4-5 sec/lap. I'm sure Mark (UNCLE) can still leave us in the dust though. I have not completed the hood yet, mainly for two reasons. I race in the basement in the evenings so its pitch dark and I haven't had much luck aligning the angles right. I was going to try a cardboard cutout piece soon and once that's in I'll likely have it up very quickly. I think it will complete it regardless if its required or not. As for a console I wont be doing one since I can see all the instrumentation on the screen with the monitor being mounted so close. The effect is most convincing especially in the McLaren. My Fanatec SQ should be here soon, I was notified of it being shipped. I will also build a mouse mount off one of the monitor legs. I'll take close ups of all of it once its done and post. For now I've spent most of my time tuning and trying out new things with simvibe, like the engine overlap. I intend to post my settings screenshots here so people can try the approach and fine tune it for themselves. I now enjoy a synchronized engine rumble (cycling) for the SRC and the MP4. There was some fantastic racing at the weekend with the SRF, although I had one race where a guy hit me three times and I was willing to put it down to racing incidents but then he started calling me names at the end of it saying that I was at fault. Funnily enough the next day I entered a race and the same guy was right behind me again, I couldn't be bothered racing with him so I let him past and didn't put up a fight and then the next thing there was a massive pile up that I avoided. When I watched the replay sure enough it was the same person who hit me in the last race who caused it all, so what comes around goes around. The next race after that I finished 3rd from 9th on the grid with some sweet overtakes and no incidents in a 2000 SOF, just nice clean hard racing - it was a blast. I ran into a malfunction with my CSW base and was struggling in some races as the issue was getting worse so it was driving me a bit crazy. I thought my driving was getting worse! It seems every race so far I get one guy behind me who is overly aggressive, he's weaving etc, so I let him go, or another who goes on the inside of a turn to outbreak me (i.e. the right hander at MidOhio after the long straight) and loses it running into me on the right, even though I stay as far right as possible. UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted December 9, 2013 Some folks are just really bad at situational awareness and reading a race, they tend to JUST focus on passing you as quickly possible no matter where they are on track. What's helped me a lot is not getting too panicked at the first lap but just focusing on surviving and not worrying if I loose any places. At about lap 2 when things calm down I then switch on the reference times for "best session lap" and focus on getting times that match my time trial or even my qualifying times and try to ignore the cars behind me. If I catch a car then I don't try to overtake straight away, I watch to see the corners where they are slower and then decide where to make my move but sometimes just pushing a little and getting in someone's mirrors is enough for them to make a mistake to allow for a clean pass. Keeping calm and your arms and feet relaxed is critical, too often I find myself a bag of nerves when someone is breathing down my neck or catching up on me. As a result my arms are too stiff and my foot movements are too abrupt. I'm planing to do a DIY rig since I already spent too much money on hardware and my wife would just kill me if I try to buy one. Plus it seems like a fun project. sebj 616 Report post Posted December 10, 2013 Hi jonixc, yes the DIY was a fun project. The area where the wheel base is attached to is sturdy enough, I could easily sit on it. I since replaced the initial screws I used with much thicker ones and washers. I used a socket wrench to tighten that piece to the vertical wood pieces. I'm assuming you are talking about the area I circled in blue in the attached picture. I find the transducers in the front don't wildly vibrate the rig in that area so you could put them there. The wheel base probably does more when you go over curbs. The way I attached that piece, its on an angle as you can see in the picture, so not sure how you'd want to mount/place the monitors to/on that. I circled in red where you could create vertical mount stands attached to the rig. I preferred to do a standalone mount for portability and I just was not sure how much vibration I would get coming through the monitors themselves. Also putting more on the rig would make it more heavy. I was concerned with how much vibrational force I could feel from the transducers if the rig was too heavy. If I was to do it again, I think I would still go the separate way as I did now. Hope that helps. EDIT: here is a picture underneath that piece. I will wait a little for that. I'm still not sure how I will put the wood base for the wheel (angle or straight) I decided to wait to have everything that I will include in the rig first so I can start with the rig because I could test positioning each part first and check how it feels. I'm 6'3 and my first car was a Plymouth Champ 1984 so I drove for those 2 to 3 years with my knees hitting the wheel and don't want to go back ever to that. BTW I just received the notification that the CSW should arrive on Wednesday. I had an interesting experience from the order I made. I'll post it on a different topic later when the issue is solved. sebj 616 Report post Posted December 10, 2013 You could do the base flat with no angle as the base comes with an angled bracket and that way you can place a monitor on the base. I am 6'2" so that is why I built the base his way and angled the side panels to get in and out. It was a challenge getting everything fitted for my height but with wood you have lots of flexibility and you can cover up mistakes. you are going in the right direction because you can make the rig your own. I sat in human racing (too small for us tall guys unless you get a custom seat) and the obottos (revolution was ok but still not tailored for me), and the fanatec rig (I liked the siting position of it the best). I wish everyone went into the races with this mindset. It's really helped moving into the SRF series, you're really taking your life in your hands running MX5s I feel really comfortable in the series and have met lots of really nice racers willing to help the new guys like us!
