sebj 616 Report post Posted June 10, 2016 I'm running iRacing at 1.2 per pixel setting on my 7970. Works really nice. I ran Imola in the F2 last night, was good fun. Im losing way too much sleep lately This shows that even "lower end" cards can run iRacing in VR very well. I believe the 7970 is about a 280X and 960 equivalent. UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted June 10, 2016 That's good news, it seems like they've optimized the SDK a lot since I last used my 7970 with the DK2, it was the head tracking that really struggled the most with it. Fingers crossed you'll get good performance with Dirt Rally I was racing the tin tops last night and with the better resolution they are much more pleasant to drive. I can't wait to get my C7 protoype wheel finished it's going to be awesome. The cockpit in that car is really cool too with a nice clear display. 2 Tsfc and Paul GT73 reacted to this
sebj 616 Report post Posted June 10, 2016 (edited) @UNKLEHow high can you crank up per pixel in the lotus79 on your 980Ti OC before 90fps takes a hit too often? Edited June 12, 2016 by sebj
sebj 616 Report post Posted June 11, 2016 Here is how my setup looks now. I converted the triple monitor stand to hold the sensor and used one arm to hold up one of my Benq monitors. I also attached a loop to the ceiling and am running the Rift cable up and then down just above my head. Works awesome! no wires to mess with. 3 Kevin Jowett, Crafty Fox and Paul GT73 reacted to this

I tried 300% and it was stutter city but the stutter was reminiscent of changing the setting with the debug tool before closing out Oculus home - ie a bug rather than the GPU unable to perform. I'll need to play around more but to be honest I didn't see any difference between 200% and 300% in terms of actual image quality. I haven't noticed any performance issues with the 980TI at 200% although I'm sure that'll change with a full grid at the ring. sebj 616 Report post Posted June 13, 2016 Good one! I think you should always try the unit before buying especially if you are on the fence. There is no beating VR for immersion and it makes Sim racing more real but there are some that value resolution above all else or don't like the FOV. I'm good with both so for me there is no going back. 2 FannBlade and Paul GT73 reacted to this
UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted June 13, 2016 Yep it's hard to describe until you actually try it, in the simplest terms it puts you in the car but it restricts your peripheral vision and image clarity a little - a bit like putting a diving mask on and then driving around in your real car. 1 FannBlade reacted to this
Crafty Fox 17 Report post Posted June 14, 2016 (edited) Give me wireless or at least a single USB C cable and ability to use my own phone. Bound to be improved hardware within about a year I reckon or the prices falling (new pack) when the official controllers arrive. Not stated as fact just what I want lol Everything moving so fast these days but is always nice to read of peoples reactions and impressions with so many saying how good it is. Ironic also that here comes VR when Nvidia finally solve the stretch issue on multi screens. Edited June 14, 2016 by Crafty Fox
Anthony A. 46 Report post Posted June 14, 2016 Nvidia had the tech for years. They kept the profits rolling in with incremental updates (they learned from the best.... Apple). The release now was inevitable.
Kevin Jowett 309 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 It's even exciting to read about your experience so far Seb. I know I'll be joining you VR fellas eventually, just trying to decide if it's better to build a second chassis for movement and VR or to slowly make adjustments to my existing build. Wish time had of allowed me to drop in on my way by a few weeks back Keep the updates coming

UNKLE 1,429 Report post Posted December 16, 2016 Nice one SebJ. How are you finding the touch? I've just got round to building my rig up and getting the VR room ready. The touch has been sitting in its box for well over a week now! Should get it all up and running this weekend, absolutely itching to get racing again and trying out the touch. sebj 616 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 Hey UNKLE, I'm loving the touch! I haven't had this much fun since I was a kid. I've enjoying Unspoken and Dead and Buried. Couple of nights ago I realized I was crawling on the floor hiding behind a bar set in a saloon having a shootout. It was unreal! I've got the sensors mounted on the ceiling pointing down, both extended as far as they go from the PC to either side and I get great coverage even behind me. I have about a 12x10 play area. Super bad is ok too. I also tried Google vr which is interesting and has potential. Tried solus project, it uses a game pad so it's not as cool. Haven't gotten into medium or quill but I hear great things. Hit me up for dead and buried if you find me.online after 8:30pm EST. IRacing has taken a back seat for now 1 UNKLE reacted to this
Avenga76 835 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 I am loving my touch also. Audio shield, Fruit Ninja VR and Space Pirate trainer are my favs. Also Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades is a good "Dicking around with guns simulator" as the developer describes it, just make sure you turn on the Touch controller enhancements. Also Accounting is really good if you like Rick and Morty, plus it is free and really funny I tried Medium and Quill but I don't have an artistic bone in my body. I have about the same space as Sebj, I have 13x10. I have ordered another camera for behind so I can do full 360 room scale. At the moment I have a blind spot for hand tracking directly behind me. sebj 616 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 I keep seeing you online but you must leave your PC on because my invites to.you go up in smoke. I'll have to try those titles. There's a lot of content, although not sure what's worth it. I also get jittery response at the back of my.play space turned backwards but I hardly ever have to do it. A third would be perfect for sure. is space pirate trainer more fun than dead N buried? Is there coop?
Avenga76 835 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 Yeah. My PC is always on. Give me a yell if you want to set up some games. Space pirate trainer is quite a bit different to dead and buried. I would say dead and buried is more fun because you are down on the floor ducting for cover the whole time. I swear I must look like a total muppet playing VR, I love how you actually feel like you are hiding behind something real in dead and buried. My only problem with dead and buried is that it is a bit hard to find games. First couple of days after I got my touch I couldn't find a single game, now that there is more players it is becoming easier to get matches. Space pirate trainer is single player only. It it waved based but you have a ton of different weapons so it is fun trying different tactics, settings yourself challenges to only uses certain weapons or doing a no shield run, or a dual shock stick melee only run, that type of thing. It is good just to have a quick blast. I usually play quite a few games for a short session in each, so I will do a couple of rounds of Space pirate, then a couple of songs in Audio shield, then a couple of matches of dead and buried and a bit of slashing in Fruit ninja. By that time I am totally worn out so I will do a bit of dicking around with guns in Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, in H3VR they have a Christmas advent calendar going on so each day you get to open a new gun. 1 sebj reacted to this

I don't have Super Hot but I am liking dead and buried. I still wish the match making was better. I wanted to play some horde last night but I could only find maximum 2 players, I want a good 4 player match. One question, If your are ducting down, do others see that in your player model, because I never see anyone else ducking down behind things. And then is your hit detection box the size of you standing or crouched. I would really love to do some experimenting around with that game.
sebj 616 Report post Posted December 20, 2016 I do see people crouched, yes. Hit box gets smaller for sure. I blind fire around corners too once I get my sights aligned. A 4 player horde match is awesome. I've gotten as far as level 10. Yup the game needs more multiplayer UI polish. At least allow more customer ization and ability to change parameters between games.
